So here's a generic discussion:
How did you get into astrology? And how did you learn and develop your knowledge about it?

I've always been interested in it. I remember having a crush on a boy in 5th grade and thinking, well he's a Pisces like me so we are compatible (lol)!

I also have a weird talent in that I remember everyone's birthdays. My elementary school teachers birthday was October 3rd, therefore she's a libra. I also have a knack for pinpointing people's signs, or element sign at the very least. Therefore, I started getting more into it and started learning about birth charts and synastry charts about a year ago.

Anyways, I'd love to hear all your stories about how you got into astrology and how you've learned about it over the years!

Only because the curiosity lead me to search the truth, "is it right that astrology tell the truth? and how? why? what? etc", and I just want to know myself better. Not really care about other signs than mine, so I study only mine (sun sign at that time). lol.

When I broke up with my ex, I want to know why he did what he did because he was the opposite of me, then I found birth chart and synastry.

I only use astrology to know me better and my relationship. I don't really check on other people, just basic is fine. Sometimes I check some people I know who did bad things, like cheating, lying, manipulation, abusive, etc, and they lead me to study each signs. hahaha.

I'm still learning and developing the understanding other than birth chart and synastry, but I'm not really forcing myself to do it, because sometimes I like the mystery of not knowing what's in the future or I will get bored. and sometimes my curiosity lead me somewhere, leaving astrology for awhile.

I agree with what you are both saying.

I got into Astrology because I identified with the traits of a Libra very STRONGLY. I used to have a MySpace and MySpace had a horoscopes section where it talked about the signs and I would always read up on Libras because that was my sign.

I related to every trait they mentioned, perhaps because I'm a double-Libra (Sun and Moon). So from that point, I started feeling like Astrology was valid.

Also, I compared relationships using Astrology. I get along better with people who I'm compatible with (Air/Fire) than those who I'm non-compatible with (Earth/Water).

I use Astrology as a tool to better understand myself and others.

I always avoided it, even though we grew up acknowledging our sun signs of course... I knew I was a Capricorn and had some characteristics of that, like always wanting to be at the top of my class, being uber type-A and sometimes not sleeping all night trying to perfect a project I was working on, etc. I liked the Cap side of me.

But I really got into astrology because of my older sister, who started doing chart readings, and when our cousin died suddenly a few years ago, I was also going through scary health problems and a very tough break up. So I turned to her for clarity and she read to me what was happening in our charts.

I was going through my Saturn return, and at the same time Saturn was squaring Uranus. I believe she, and the rest of my family, all had some crazy Uranus square going on - it made sense: losing him was the biggest Earthquake to our family. None of us are the same afterwards. It was a heartbreaking, come to Jesus time.

For me, seeing these transits gave me comfort. Almost as if it was taken out of my hands completely. I wasn't comfortable doing my own readings, but I started having her explain things as they came - the good transits, the tougher ones... we healed through this. And in many ways, it actually strengthened my spirituality. It taught me how to pay attention to what was happening, while also letting go to the higher power.

So that's how. Now, I tend to try to look for the happy transits so that I always keep a bright light at the end of the tunnel, but I understand what I'm going through more when times are hard.

Thru my Mother.

In the beginning I always said it was bullshiet.
Afterwards when I realized that there was something else in live than what you see, I started to apreciate it.
Now a days I respect it but I kind of think it can turn into a trap easely also..
Maybe the byble got something when it says about it...

I was about five years old when I first learned that I'm a Capricorn, and I've always believed in sun sign astrology since then.

By fifth grade I was buying my horoscope scrolls, reading Linda Goodman and then the Secret Language books through high school and college. And I tried figuring out my chart in college, manually, but got frustrated and quit. I knew I was Leo rising, that's all. I remember wanting to be Gemini rising because I felt so Gemini, but I never persevered long enough to know I had Gemini Mars.

I went through a weird religious phase and stopped researching astrology but could never put it out of my mind or think it was untrue.

Finally about five years ago I decided to get serious about it. I remember looking up my placements in an ephemeris at the bookstore...and I have a planet in most of the signs...and I was really disappointed thinking, "Well if everyone has a planet in every sign, how are we supposed to take this seriously??"

LOL

I didn't know the first thing about real astrology.

I've been trying to get my Sag son on board, and he's lukewarm about it...one day when he was like nine, he was reading about his Chinese sign at a Chinese restaurant, and he was appalled and depressed to be a Rabbit, so I tried to cheer him up by explaining his sun sign and his Aqua stellium. That cheered him a bit and he's asked a few more questions since then, but one day he said to me: "Look. What it comes down to is this: I am not comfortable with the idea of some giant rocks floating in outer space, controlling my destiny. It's a bit MUCH. You understand?"

I remember a friend told me about the natal chart and I check mine and I was like: oh my sun is in the 12th house...ok. and leave lol.
Until like 5 years latter I was going through an eating disorder and I kinda wanted to know why I was like that. So O searched more about horoscopes and stuff and yeah...
Another reason was that I never felt like a Leo..my sun sign, thats when I found out I was Virgo rising. Everything made a lot more of sense.

An herbalist I was learning from mentioned the natal charts a few times.. That pretty much sums it up. Lol

There was also someone else I was learning from at the time that brought up certain astrological aspects from time to time.

Asked a friend who is into astrology how I could find out what house I have Pluto in.. She showed me astrodienst, and that was when I started researching it, years ago.

xD.. As much as Sag is a sign that likes philosophy.. It also seems to be a sign that has a strong dislike of fatalistic beliefs/thinking. However, the thing about astrology is, it really isn't fatalistic.. At least, not entirely. If you really want to get him interested, try and help him see that.

Very interesting! I myself had a hard time believing all of it at first. For instance, I could not identify with my Mars and Venus Aries conjunction. However, I can definitely identify with my Pisces sun, moon, and Mercury stellium conjunction in my 8th house. I think that really contributes to my love for analyzing people and my love for psychology. I'm still trying to find my resonance with my ascendent in Leo. But I think it might take some time to get there, I'm seeing my Leo peek out every now and then

Good points! Yeah I see that, a Sag wouldn't want to be limited in any way. In time, I think he will come around...for now he's juggling too many other theological questions.

My daughter, on the other hand, was having a meltdown one night, wondering what on earth was wrong with her, and I had to tell her all about being an 8H Scorpio sun (conjunct transiting Saturn at this time), and I honestly think that cured her. She has mentioned it to me several times since then..."So glad to know I'm a Scorpio!!!"

My ex boyfriend was a Sagittarius and I think he got into what I would say about astrology. I indicated that his Aries moon was one of the reasons for his ADD that he has struggled with. I would love to look up his chart and be like, oh so that's why you're this way, lol. He found it interesting.

Gee,
About 36 years ago, folk I was living with ask my birthdata did some math, pull out their ephemeris and said, uhm unuh about 8 or 9 times then mumbled quietly without telling me a thing. After that I started reading, It was another 5 years before I taught myself to do a chart.
Know myself and understand others and our relationships to the seen and unseen worlds.

I was part of an Edgar Cayce study group in the 1970s who were all bit by the astrology bug, but I was busy in college with studying for two separate BAs and an undeclared Minor, was working on independent research project for credit, and had a part-time job at night at a movie theatre downtown. At that time, I just didn't have 'the brain space' to be getting involved with something that my older friends ignited a passion for.

Then a few years later a group of astrologers asked to use my chart-data to practice rectification, and I didn't realize 'who' was working on my chart? But I almost all the way certain that it was Ry Redd who had hand-drawn my chart, and had come to my apartment at the time to check out my digs. He was describing how my room, books, organized-ways-- (down to the way I positioned my bed by the window so I could see the ocean first thing in the morning)-- matched my chart.

Again, I had been an incredibly-busy person and couldn't "take in" what he had to say.

Then (like Faith) I "got religion" in the late 1980s and it was an INCREDIBLY hard decision to dump every chart, every 'mystical' book, in order to "prove" that I meant business about God and my vexed soul's condition. (ohhh no, you di'dn't? oh yes I did. I threw away such TREASURES...*kicks self*)

Faith, I sure wish I had been into astrology when I had kids... omg, what a tool! My kids deserved that...

So, after the bottom had fallen out of my life, and I had wrapped up other projects, I decided to Learn. I wanted to learn something very new to me.

I took it up "as a Learner*" -- to experience learning something-new, and increasing general knowledge about something current I saw every day in the Horoscopes section of the newspapers or in magazine columns.

(*Note-- I have Sun Gemini, Moon Virgo (9)th, and Sag Asc. I also have a Mercury in Gemini... Recently I heard Rick Levine quip in his type of hilariousness that Mercury Geminis are "informationsluts"!! My SouthNode (and F.S.Polaris) are conjunct the Mercury Gemini in my chart. LMAO!!)

Yet of course, there was familiarity-- but none of it had sunken in, except for the words of one granny in the EC group who wagged her bony finger at me, stared~dared me in the eyes with her Beautiful crystaline blue ones, and kept repeating sternly Saturn! Saturn! That scared me. It was almost like she was saying Satan! Satan! Which!, I've learned now, wasn't too far from the truth, LOL.

I began with Mark Lerner on YahooHoroscope every day. After about 5 or 6 months, I started seeing 'repetition'... Like they were copy-pasting the same thing periodically, and I wanted to get to the bottom of 'why' that was. Then I started getting hooked.

Bought Alan Oken's Complete Astrology book, Stephen Arroyo's Astrology Karma & Transformation, found used copies of Robert Hand's Planets in Transit, and Isabel Hickey's Astrology A Cosmic Science, and The Arkana Dictionary of Astrology by Fred Gettings (that a Libra boyfriend found in a used bookstore for me that year).

I had picked up a copy of Linda Goodman's Love Relationships NOT for the zodiac info, but more because I LOVED the way she wrote. My soul resonated with the way she would say things so metaphorically, poetically.

I also became a fan of Jeff Jawer & Rick Levine's daily youtube horoscopes. I loved learning about the transits, which came along with advice on how to best-handle or approach these energies. I liked Rick's metaphysical ideas and his genius at explaining electrical things-- so vivid. Those guys would crack me up-- what a riot!!!
(Jeff sadly passed away in February 2015.)

The more I get into astrology, the more I realize how much I DON'T know. It's very seductive, and mind-expanding. It's increased my Love and Appreciation for GOD and the way God made everything to be sooo tuned and timed.

I've learned so much about myself and others, and feel like an infant crawling around trying to figure out how much I know and can apply from the astrology in my head, and yet it's an 'automatic' when I meet people on the streets.

My instincts coupled with a little-bit-of-knowledge has gone a long way in helping me better my life, and simply helping folks around me. Knocks me out when I can say something really little, and *they* "know" how to apply it within their own life without my knowing-- I wonder how much MORE effective it could be to increase both.

Maybe I'm a slower-learner? (Organically, because I've got too many distractions to deal with on a daily basis), but also because I need to Learn-DEEPLY and not so much shallowly in order to "anchor" the Learning I get. It has to be applied. And it's sooo vast in its scope.

Some day I'd like to get to the point of having my official diploma/Certification from a reputable educational organization or association in astrology.

I'm very drawn to the esoteric knowledge, but gotta absolutely nail down ALL those basics first in a way that'd be liquid-- like not have to think about it. I have pieces of it down now, just like that-- so I KNOW it can be done in me.

The rest will be instinctual, I'm certain of it. I was born for the mystical metaphysical realms-- attracted it through the whole of my lifetime, even without realizing it. Nothing like finding out 'what you've already known'.... So Blessed! So Blessed!

Something to chip-away at... Eating that elephant, one bite at a time.

I got into astrology when I was in high school. I would look up my horoscopes almost every day (the vague "commercial" horoscopes, not anything that offered any true depth though) and eventually I stumbled upon an astrology site that had an offer to read and interpret your birth chart. Not having any money to order one at the time I looked up what a natal chart was on google and started getting really into the true study of astrology, what the planets represent, the houses in the chart ect. and over the last 4 years or so I've just read up on it as much as possible and try to learn as much as I can. I'm really glad I got into it though because it's eerily accurate most of the time, and there's so many different facets of astrology that you can keep learning from it for your whole life.

I was absolutely baffled by my boyfriend's behaviour (typical Cancer...) and Googled "Cancer Men" as a start and it snowballed from there. That was over a year ago!

It has completely changed my life in so many ways - mainly helping me to understand myself and those around me better. It has also reaffirmed my faith in something bigger than ourselves.
