This is a great question. It allows one to observe that adjacent Houses are QUITE different. This fact enables one to answer this question with a high degree of certainty.First of all, the 7th House is the House of Marriage and Serious Partnerships. A 7th House Sun will be very oriented to being a partner. Most people want to be in a serious relationship, but some people W-A-N-T to be in a serious relationship. Since the Sun is the ego and the central identity of any native, one would be able to ascertain if he/she was the former or the latter.
The 8th House is the House of Depth. I call it that. It is the House of everything one cannot talk about at a cocktail party. If one mentions death, the room becomes quiet. If one mentions sex, the room becomes quiet. If one gets too emotionally passionate, the room gets quiet. The 8th House is the House of all that is under the surface from psychology to sexology to Freud's Id. The native with an 8th House Sun will be passionately interested in all of the above.
Hence, one can see the clear distinction between the DOMAINS/SPHERES of each House. One should be able to ascertain in which House one fits. This could be muddied by the Moon in one of the two Houses, but still, one should be able to make the distinctions because the Sun is the most powerful force in the chart.
