Interesting thoughts.
While I find tps valuable as well, I never even paid attention to the retros. Well seems I have only the outers Retro currently (uranus, Neptune, Pluto)
okay so from january 2013 until september 2014 Mercury was retro; not an easy time, including my grandmother`s death, some serious inner searching and not being too happy about what I found. lol
Interestingly pretty much when the REtro phase ended Mr Sag and me got a little more "conversational". lol
It might have been triggered by something he said 3 months before, apparently directed at me (the very night when my tp Sun was conjunct tp Moon conjunct my natal DESC, all being within a degree of orb), and that led me to re-think some things, about what I thought it was or was not, and having to adjust my perspective on myself, my role in it, his perspective more than a bit.
Interestingly my tp Mercury at that time had taken a stand on 24°56 Taurus, until deciding to move on again.
and his sp Uranus at that time had been 24°57 Scorpio. Hard to NOT notice. 
In fact my sp Mercury is at the moment preparing for its oncoming retro-period, which means he is sort of "glued" to 25°00 Aquarius
(sextile my n Sun-Mercury and conjunct my n Psyche and mean Lilith).
Well and it is squared by HIS sp Uranus on 24°59 Scorpio - so since it shows up in the secondaries as well, and was also happening in the tp`s , I think it clearly is a theme, and then also with the stationary Mercury in my chart.
Anyway he must have been there before, as my sp Uranus had been squaring HIS sp Mercury just a few weeks before that comment he made. lol
(and coinciding with me coincidentally crossing his path again after a certain "time-out" )
(after that my sp Uranus was preparing to square his sp MC-IC-axis and is continuing to do this for a while, just after having finished up with the square to his p Sun - all in Aquarius btw).
