How do I know when an aspect will be in an exact 0 degree applying conjunction? Do I just check an ephemeris? Right now Mars is opposing my Sun at 10 degrees 29 minutes. It's opposing, so does that mean that in 10 degrees 29 minutes it'll be in an exact opposition???

You mean transiting Mars at 10 degrees 29 mins right? Which sign? Mars takes about 2 years to go through all the signs, about 1.5months per sign. If it's in opposition to your Sun right now, then maybe try going about (6 signs x 1.5months) 9 months forward in time on Astro.com. See if it's close to conjunction then.
