I'm sure there have been threads like this before but I'm too lazy to look for them.

Here are my ideas, what are yours?

---

Aries: Something for their pet, like a sequined collar, or new bed, or toys for their parakeet. Picture frames or other practical gifts for the home.

Taurus: Natural soy wax candles with essential oil...fruit basket or a box of pears, individually wrapped in tissue paper. Sheepskin slippers unless they are vegan.

Gemini: Movie tickets, gift certificates, fancy headphones, wine...or just pick one of those.

Cancer: Those pillows you can heat up in the microwave and put on the back of your neck. They look like stuffed animals, but they're more mature and practical. Consider something musical like a wind-up jewelry box that plays music.

Leo: Handmade crafts that are good, something you knitted for them or drew for them. Picture frames, cool knicknacks that you bought on your travels, proving you thought of them when you were away. Something classy wrapped in shiny paper. They like fruit baskets, too.

Virgo: A thoughtful book, maybe a bronze paperweight or bookends that are sculptures of things they like...something unusual and beautiful, like a scarf or mobile to hang from the ceiling.

Libra: Books again, maybe an art coffee table book, and interesting mug, or a vase, or jewelry stand. A DVD of a movie they haven't seen.

Scorpio: Gift certificate to a favorite upscale restaurant, body lotion, shave kit stuff, self-massaging knicknacks, a cool lamp, I actually have no idea and I'm just faking it...

Sag: Something boldly bizarre that they never heard of that will get them to laugh, fiddle with it a while, and not feel too attached to. They don't like being attached to anything. Except maybe lava lamps and weird philosophy books.

Capricorn: Whatever you got for Taurus or Virgo would work for Cappy, too. Remember earth signs like natural materials. No Snuggies. Gag gifts welcome/preferred, unless you are trying to marry them.

Aquarius: Not sure. Buy for their moon sign until further notice. (Aquas, what do you want for Christmas?? Please don't say drones.)

Pisces: Whatever shows that you genuinely care. I think they like to pamper their feet. And would welcome a new goldfish as a pet, if you ever wanted to try that on someone. Test it out on Pisces first.

Hmm... I'm starting a list, and it's kind of ridiculous, but here goes.
I'll have to come back and finish it as I think of other stuff (said the Pisces).

Aries: RED lipstick (of high quality), or something for their car.

Taurus: Yoga mat, meditation CD, and an evening out to their favorite restaurant.

Gemini: TED Talks DVDs

Cancer: Potted indoor plant, and some homemade, natural candles with something comforting like lavender or geranium EO scent.

Leo: Gift card (for a lot of $$) to their favorite store, OR...something homemade and heartfelt.

Virgo: Grab bag from the local health store full of herbal supplements, Himalayan salt, neti pot, etc.

Libra: Music in whatever form (CD or whatever) by their favorite artists, art to fit their taste.

Okay, so...

Scorpio: Candle holder carved from their favorite stone, and a red, vintage hanging lamp like so:

Sagittarius: A pass to the local national forest to hike, or the local ski lodge for snowboarding/skiing, or something for their kayak, etc.

Capricorn: A full volume of books by their favorite author(s). Maybe a simple wooden bracelet, or leather-bound journal.

Aquarius: Volunteer with them at the local soup kitchen, and then a modest dinner/drinks with some friends afterwards at someone's house/apartment.

Pisces: Tickets to see their favorite artist at the local art museum, or their favorite band. And a coffee cup.

Ahahaha! Faith, I hadn't read yours before I posted mine.

You're way better at it than I am, but I think it's funny that we said a couple of the same things.

Psychic high-five!

Good to know

My husband is a Leo and already owns everything technical, but Home Depot gift cards still warm his heart.

ETA: Well not EVERYTHING technical but...everything he wants, basically.

Right?! I want that lamp, too! Lol. Sorry, Scorpios. I have a ton of candle holders made from stones, I'm keeping the lamp.

Except for Doux. I would give that lamp to her.

Glad you would like it, Ami.

Violets, I thought of Doux when I saw that lamp, too. Right, I would give it to her.

teasel, if you're reading, does your Scorpio ASC like that lamp, too? I like to think that it suits you. Maybe I would buy them in bulk...

I'll do some examples of things I've given family members in the past.

Aries (male) - Tools, toolbox, supplies to work on a car or their home, a gift card to a home improvement or tool store.

Taurus (either) - A nice article of clothing (scarf, gloves, shirt, as long as it's made out of quality material and is comfortable), a delicious dinner (either from scratch or at their favorite restaurant).

Gemini (either) - A gift certificate for a bookstore, music store, or even Amazon.com. Or, a Netflix or Pandora membership. A how-to book about something they're interested in - if you're not sure, just look at their bookshelves.

Cancer (female) - If she cooks, consider kitchen items (a cutting board, a nice set of pots and pans, or just look through her kitchen and see what she's missing or if anything needs replacing). A heating blanket, or a plush blanket. Flannel pajamas. Those candles that smell delicious.

Virgo (female) - They've likely been mentioning that they want something but are too cheap and practical to buy it for themselves. By the time Christmas rolls around, they're so caught up in buying gifts for everyone else that they've forgotten about that item. If possible, that item (or something for that item) will make them feel appreciated and noticed.

Alternatively: A book they haven't managed to pick up yet, by one of their favorite authors. A warm pair of gloves or a scarf, as Faith mentioned. A sweater or a cardigan. A small, tasteful piece of jewelry. A notebook or a journal, if they like to write. A pleasant smelling, but not overly strong, lotion or bubble bath - when in doubt, natural scents work best.

Scorpio (male) - Red and black pajamas or a nice black or grey dress shirt. A gift certificate (the Visa kind that can be used anywhere) or money to spend as they wish. Their favorite cologne or body wash. Tires/parts for their sports car or motorcycle. Tools or supplies to work on them.

Capricorn (female) - Something practical and useful, that they need but haven't noticed they need yet. Example: their dishwasher has been slowly dying for over a year but they've found ways to "fix it" until they can buy a new one. Put a big bow on it and stash it in a secret place until you're ready to give it to them. Or have it installed while they're out of the house.

Alternatively: Items they can enjoy when they're not working themselves to death: a heating pad, aloe socks or gloves, warm slippers, or a nice bath robe. A nice pair of earrings or their favorite perfume works, too.

***No gift cards. My 6th house Cap Sun mom forgets I gave her one, and then ends up giving it to other people. Lol

Aquarius (male) - If you notice that they're missing something essential, this is one sign that likes to be surprised. I once showed up at my sibling's apartment with 4-5 boxes of new kitchen appliances I noticed he hadn't picked up yet. I stacked them in the kitchen for him to find when he came home. No bows or frills necessary - he was very happy and shocked.

Alternatively: A gadget for their laptop/computer (like an external hard drive or a nice pair of headphones). Like Scorpio, a gift certificate or money to do with as they wish.

Pisces (female) - Plush, fuzzy socks. Natural lotions or body washes. Tickets to a concert with their favorite band/artist. An iTunes gift card. A set of paintbrushes, an easel or canvases. Something you made for them, like a wreath or a painting. A fantasy novel by an author they love.

Whew...that's all I got!

Lol. Now I'm considering the *actual* gifts that I get for family members in real life, and they're really nothing like the ones I mentioned (except Leo).

(I edited out my lengthy post.)

For me, it used to be anything art-related. I also love cameras. I thought asking for one of the new polaroid cameras, until I saw the "actual size" of the pictures, which was about half the size of the old ones. My dream camera and lenses are too expensive.

I like subliminal CD's and relaxation CD's. Certain types of clothes, if I need them (not underwear I once received bras for Christmas - I needed them, but I didn't want them wrapped under the tree).

I have a colouring book, and would like some proper coloured pencils to go with it. Books, but only if I can't get them through the library, or I love them so much that I want my own copy to go back to.

I love things from my childhood. My sister once bought me a book I loved, and also a burned-to-DVD version of The Children of Green Knowe, and another of The Fox and the Hound (nine years ago).

I love gadgets, but most are too expensive. I need to replace the tablet mum surprised me with last year, but I worry that it won't be worth the money - I had constant troubles with mine, and it hasn't charged for a couple of months.

Anything to do with a project... dad stopped me from buying that Baker Creek catalogue of heirloom seeds, admitting the he'd bought it for me for Christmas. I'm getting a coat I liked in JCPenney, so it would be nice to have a surprise - not too expensive, but lovely.

I don't know, anymore. I was so happy when dad told me he'd planned to surprise me with our shelter dog, just before Thanksgiving, that I ran up the driveway like a little kid.

I love to receive and write Christmas cards, but I won't be getting any this year, most likely. Except from Bugsy, our family friend. Because of the past four years. My sister will still receive cards, and presents. I'll get them from my parents, but nothing in the mail. I wasn't added to a christmas card list that I'd hoped to join for another site that closed down, but I made a lot of friends through. I was supposed to email my contact information, but had only commented, because my info hadn't changed.

My favourite thing in the whole world, was felt tip pens, when I was a kid. I still love pens. I've wanted to do more things together with others, though - living instead of buying, you know? More of a balance.

*edit. I'm not so keen on the red on the lamp, but the style isn't bad. I did love the red walls with white trim, that we once had in the dining room.

I didn't mean to make this post all about me. I was just thinking about what I like. I'm probably forgetting things, and am open to surprises.

Thank you Valentine, StubbornVirgo, and teasel! Thanks Violets for adding ideas, too.

@SV ~ I was laughing about your 6H Cap sun mom re-gifting the gift card, because I have the same sun and would do the same thing, especially if I'm talking to a friend who is dead broke. If people knew how much I love giving gift cards, they'd see what a huge present that is to me, to stock me up like that.

@teasel ~ Thanks for your thoughts. I've been thinking of asking the forum if anyone else is into those new mandala coloring books that are everywhere...I just got started coloring my first one, and I'm hooked! I'm thinking of buying that and some good colored pencils for my Cap friend.....but I don't know if she'll think it's just a waste of time. I used to suspect it was a waste of time, until I got into it. Hmmmm.
