Does astrology change with gender? Many sites want to know my gender. Is there a difference?

Sometimes they use it to assume whether your partner will be male or female, and sometimes they think it changes the meaning of Venus or Mars somehow.

Great topic.

I often ignore references to gender in astrology. Sites usually assume that because I've checked the "Male" gender box, I must be romantically interested in women.

I've wondered if synastry aspects change for same-sex relationships, but I ultimately interpret references to the "masculine" and "feminine" as the varying energies of our souls.

That is a great topic.

I had questions about the female asteroids, such as Medusa, Sedna etc. I did not know which role the male played in the female's story.

I find that the make becomes the main character, in the same way as does the female.

I've always wondered about Sedna because it is closely conjunct my Sun. So is Minerva, another asteroid concerning a daughter's relationship to her father.

Some say a man's moon and Venus determine his preferences in a partner, while for women, it's the sun and Mars.

This exactly.

One odd case that's interesting to me though is with my niece and brother. My niece's mom fell out of the picture. Usually the moon sign represents our mother but her moon sign falls in Taurus, which is my brother's sun sign. He is essentially her dad AND her mom though, so it makes total sense to me. Sex was taken out of the equation, but the gender roles (loving, nurturing, mothering qualities) are still present within her chart.

Read about Sedna. Is that your story?

Interesting...the same thing happened with me, my mother died when I was young, my father became both parents. It shows up in the charts - my father's moon on my ASC, for example. My draconic moon conjunct my natal Saturn. My IC on my father's sun. And some other things.

I ignore it for the most part. I think it works either way. Mars being the more aggressive, etc etc. That's just the energy no matter your sex or preference.

Hmm... Mine's a Gemini and Aquarius respectively. So, I should have looked for a talkative tattooed girl who dyes her hair orange? lol

Hers is Leo and Leo. She does Iike the macho brave sort. I've always joked that she would have liked a Navy SEAL, except he would have managed her maintenance.

I do think that they ask to determine attraction preferences, but that's assuming that the person is attracted to the opposite sex.

I think gender does change how certain signs and traits are expressed, especially in traditional astrology. I remember reading somewhere about how Libra is a masculine sign ruled by Venus, and Scorpio is a feminine sign traditionally ruled by Mars. It was interesting that Libra men do seem to express typically more feminine Venusian qualities. This is expressed in a logical and intellectual way, since Libra is an air sign. Just like Scorpio women tend to act in a traditionally more masculine way, expressing the qualities of Mars and Pluto. But this is done through emotions, since Scorpio is a water sign. That's why Scorpio women are crazy and should never be underestimated, and Libra men usually let their spouse wear the pants and make decisions.

I guess that these differences are most noticeable in signs ruled by Venus, Mars, Sun, and Moon, since they are representative of masculine vs feminine. Leo and Aries women tend to be very outspoken and independent, with these signs being ruled by the Sun and Mars. Cancer men are definitely more emotional/moody than the average man, being ruled by the Moon.

Vedic goes a lot more in depth, and puts more emphasis on gender than western astrology.

I think Sedna's story resonates a bit because she refuses to marry (I'm a little cynical about marriage) because she has high standards (I do).

Minerva is the Roman equivalent of Athena, goddess of wisdom and strategy. Her father Jupiter (or Zeus) impregnated the titan Metis. He feared his own child would overthrow him, so he swallowed Metis. However, Minerva eventually emerged from his own head, fully grown, with armor and weapons.
