Hello

Sorry about the lengthy list, I have some questions on orbs and would like some insight and opinions on how orbs should be considered;

1. How many orbs do you think we should consider between a transit planet and the natal planet? Would/should it be different for different planets? eg. bigger orbs for bigger planets?

2. How many orbs between Natal Planet to Natal Planet to consider it a major aspect/minor aspect?

3. How many orbs between Natal Asteroid to Natal Planet to consider it a major aspect/minor aspect?

4. How many orbs between Natal Asteroid to Natal Asteroid to consider it a major aspect/minor aspect?

5. How many orbs between a Planet and an angle/nodal point to consider it a major aspect/minor aspect?

6. I saw a few examples were there were two planets in the same sign in synastry that were deemed too wide to be a conjunct, but if one has a number of planets in that sign a wider orb is allowed. How much wider would the orb be? How is it determined?

7. Do you think orbs are that important if planets are in the same sign or square/trine/opposite by sign in synastry? Example Mars-Mars synastry conjunct by sign but orbs deemed too wide to be a conjunction

8.Out of sign aspects in the natal - what orbs should be considered? example; Sun square moon - in a case they are square by aspect but trine by sign - do you think they should be considered trine or square?

Thank you

Whether its transit, progressed, or natal, my opinion is unorthodox....that if you feel the aspect, its valid, even if the orb is ten degrees. I don't really buy into the hard and fast rule at anything that doesn't meet a rigid requirement, should automatically be dismissed out of hand.

I had been wondering because I sometimes feel the effects where orbs are quite wide for example in synastry or transits.

Thanks Spongebob

If astrology has any value, it should be operating consistently. I know this is not a popular thing to say around here.

Anyway, orbs do not operate like a switch-on/switch-off. They operate on a scale, where they gradually become more insistent and slowly fade out after that. It depends a little of your perspective.
Are you interested in the unfolding process? (then you might want to see the wider orbs coming into play and fading away again)
Are you interested in a particular moment? (close orbs).

As for what you feel...
One of those "cover-all-arguments" imo.
There are many different explanations for that.
One explanation is that it is not even THAT particular aspect you respond to, but you attribute the effects to an aspect, when in truth it is another aspect or alignment that is leading to that effect.

Another thing that often happens is that another celestial alignment is in play. Astrology above all is planetary geometry (of course just talking from my view, experience and observation). So you need to keep an eye on those midpoint-pictures, too, as well as the parallels/ contraparallels.

Also, if you have a multiple planet configuration (as is the usual thing going on, there are almost no isolated aspects, even though we often treat them as such), and two aspects are out of orb but in orb with a third planet, that third planet pulls the other two closer together.

The difference in effect is that instead of being lightened up simultaneously like a christmas tree, there is a cascade-effect, like dominos falling. If one corner is being activated the energy starts flowing and lightening up the other corners as well, but with a bit of time-lapse (though it can be so short as to be nearly untraceable).

10 degree orbs with empty spaces in between?
You are reaching and grasping for straws.

And yes, I know people will tell me But I DO feel that aspect.

Well, no, just no, you don`t. Whatever you feel, it is because of something else.

(oh and do not forget to check the progressions, a synastric 10 degree orb might actually be much closer in the progressed charts).

"1. How many orbs do you think we should consider between a transit planet and the natal planet?"
For the triggering/ activation of an event 1 degree applying, 1 degree separating.

For a process, I look for 3 degree orbs, purely arbitrary.

" Would/should it be different for different planets? eg. bigger orbs for bigger planets?"
No.

"2. How many orbs between Natal Planet to Natal Planet to consider it a major aspect/minor aspect?"
6 degrees. under 3 degrees and even more so at exactness it is very insistent.
(6 degrees are a guiding line, in reality I also keep an eye on 8 degree orbs, but not more than that)

But you have to take into account other things, too. Declinations. midpoints. planetary geometry. and the progressions of course.
Also if one planet is conjunct an angle, it gets into the spotlight. Does not mean it gets bigger orbs, but it gets extra attention.

"3. How many orbs between Natal Asteroid to Natal Planet to consider it a major aspect/minor aspect?"
1-2 degrees.
for conjunctsion I sometimes look at 3 degrees, but that is pretty wide.

I tend to treat the major asteroids, especially Ceres and Juno differently. Ceres because it is a Dwarf planet. Juno Idon`t really know why.

"
4. How many orbs between Natal Asteroid to Natal Asteroid to consider it a major aspect/minor aspect?"
1-2 degrees. 3 degrees for conjunction-opposition. bu the 3 degree orb is not that strong.

"5. How many orbs between a Planet and an angle/nodal point to consider it a major aspect/minor aspect?"
3 degrees - very powerful. But 5-6 degrees you will also feel. Speaking about conjunctions here mainly (maybe squares, too). I don`t really use any other aspects with angles (unless they are also parallels/contraparallel).

"6. I saw a few examples were there were two planets in the same sign in synastry that were deemed too wide to be a conjunct, but if one has a number of planets in that sign a wider orb is allowed. How much wider would the orb be? How is it determined?"

If we have a chain of planets, and a rolling conjunction, the hole between two planets should not exceed 3 degrees, and I always check the midpoint between the first and last planet, seeing what is nearest to that midpoint (or opposing it). It usually gives the emphasis of the aspect-chain.

"7. Do you think orbs are that important if planets are in the same sign or square/trine/opposite by sign in synastry? Example Mars-Mars synastry conjunct by sign but orbs deemed too wide to be a conjunction"
The signbackground will still be there. if you have Venus in Aries, you will feel it.
But it is not the same as having an aspect. It colours the expression of the planet, and hence is important, but it does not energize anything.

"8.Out of sign aspects in the natal - what orbs should be considered? example; Sun square moon - in a case they are square by aspect but trine by sign - do you think they should be considered trine or square?"
Square.

But I admit that there can be different opinions of that. I have not made up my mind about it yet.
It depends if your astrology follows more an aspect-oriented or a sign-oriented approach.

Whatever it is, one thing is for me a very hard rule, and that is that your approach needs to be consistent.

I have to disagree. There isnt really a "wrong" answer to this question. Scientists will tell you astrology has no basis in fact whatsoever as a subject itself. Theres no factual, proven evidence that shows wide orbs absolutely aren't felt, ever.
