Do you mean only house cusps, or the ascendant and axis aswell?

I'd say the house cusps are not real as they're only points in the chart.

I can see the main axis are important, rising or setting in the sky, as well as being the highest/lowest points, but the cusps are imaginary really, lol

If they're not real points in the universe they can't really be real points in ourselves i guess.

I've found them real as the description of the sign on the cusp fits me more than the description of the sign itself.

As to why? I subscribe to a minority position on why astrology works in that I believe the heavenly bodies don't exert the force, but rather our own collective unconsciousness does (IOW, it's metaphysics that originates in our psychic energy, not physics that originates from the planets and stars). As a species we ascribe certain energies to archetypes, and when that is mixed with the heavenly bodies then that in turn shapes us. Had Venus been instead named Phobos, then it would exert a very different force, because it's not the planet that does it, but rather our perception of it. In a sense, it's our species focusing occult energy, casting a type of spell...SIGH. That means so many different things to different people, one reason I hate English. What I essentially mean is it generates a psychic force that affects people on this planet, with that energy being connected in our collective unconsciousness to specific heavenly bodies. It's similar to the so-called Law of Attraction, but at a collective level rather than individual.

I want to emphasize that this is COLLECTIVE. It's not a force you can say "well I have a different view of that archetype, so it should effect me differently." You can try, but it's like swimming against a riptide. It also doesn't require your conscious awareness of it.

Throw in that there are different House systems (which thus unconsciously direct that energy a bit differently) and that causes a bit of a bleed as the energy of one House mixes with that of another House (directed collectively, not by an individual) so that it essentially creates a mix...much like how brackish water is a "cusp" between fresh and salt water that is a mix of both.

Anyway, I'm not interested in debating this as I know many reject my paradigm of astrology just as I reject theirs, but since I get the feeling you're fishing for ideas, I'm just throwing that out there.

I love your theory of how astrology works.

It's relatively similar to mine

I still don't know about the house cusps though, just because we created them in the chart it doesn't mean they have a place in our psyche, or in the universe, which is one.

Like, what would the cusp be (Metaphysically/Spiritually) that gives that particular heavenly body more energy or meaning in that area of your self ?

Here's my opinion on cusp! I like cusp when it comes to asc, but I don't know otherwise. I have always felt like I was in the middle of a virgo and libra rising even though i'm at 01 degrees. Im on the fence with suns cusps though!

Yes, cusps between signs are real.

They are a function of the distinct boundaries and polarity switch between signs. A planet (especially luminary) sitting right on the cusp can actually be partly in one sign, partly in the other. Otherwise, between 28-0-2° you have a 'cuspy' situation that is less critical for interpretation than an actual body aligned over the actual demarcation between signs.

No, this thread will not settle the matter with any debate.

The problem is not a matter of whether or not cusps are real, but that there is confusion on where they begin and end, and on interpretation. Those issues muddy the waters.

Don't overthink it.

I would say the sign cusps are definitely real

It's a star or planet between stars(whatever that means in our psyche), and so as it gets to the middle of the signs it will be feeling an influence from either side ...
