Cancer doesn't strike me as soft. They're a patriotic sign as well as protective of their family which makes me think of soldiers and mother bears (as opposed to some shy boy hiding behind his mother's skirts that seems to be the stereotype, though they can be moody). Offhand, those with strong Cancer placements or sun I know include an ex-soldier father figure (but caring, if you could handle some of his wild moods), my cousin with a lot of fire to his chart, another with a lot of Scorpio to hers (stronger than Cancer), and a girl who is a firm leader (if loathe to raise her voice, but damn she can fix you with her eyes, what I've called the flash of iron in her velvet glove).

In terms of the male pisces sun and venus...the softness was superficial. Underneath it all really quite a cold person and could be very cruel.

The female pisces venus, again, cold, extremely selfish.

I've noticed Pisces Moons and Venuses to be very compassionate, yet passive. They shift and float around without making a ruckus. Not as naggy as Cancer, but they're more susceptible to letting things pass them by that they shouldn't.

if you're the one who they really really love, cancer moon and pisces venus' softness kill other placements. lol.

What I mean is how they approach/interact with their loved one or other people (if they get comfortable enough). They really easily hurt, so pisces venus will easily build the wall, the coldness or escape leaving in their own dream world, and cancer moon will easily like a mother chicken, busy to protect their own emotion or their loved one.

The difference between their softness:
- cancer moon is like a nurturing mother
- pisces venus is dreamy & romantic

..if you are in a good place with them, you'll get enchanted by the softness. lol.

Pisces are more mystical, freedom oriented, and spiritual. They are able to tap into other people's energies quite easily. They have this soft energy where they seem to float easily without many worries or cares.

Cancers seem more grounded to me than Pisces. Cancers have close family ties. They're more practical and live in the "here and now" as opposed to Pisces who are prone to daydreaming and idealizing thoughts.
I find that Cancers have a little twinkle in their eyes.

To me, "softness" (and also "sensitivity") doesn't necessarily mean that someone is warm and kind. While they typically (*) don't step on the backs of others to get what they want, they can be supremely self-absorbed, because they're soft and easily hurt...and may (especially Cancer) remember those hurts for a very long time while not explaining what they think is obvious so others are left mystified by their bad behavior (and Pisces and Cancer can be exceedingly petulant at times). (Of course they can go bad as any sign can.)

And I'd strongly advise against not provoking a Cancer. I recall reading somewhere that Cancer was the most prominent in convicted crimes of passion, and I can believe that. My cousin's 8H Cancer Mars makes me think anyone wants to die, then threaten his children...but there'd have to be less painful ways to commit suicide.

Likewise, being tough doesn't necessarily make someone cold, cruel, or a jerk, or not feeling anything.
