But seriously, why think of this? I'm just curious why two people started to think of it. Offhand, I don't think I've ever seen someone born with "elf ears" nor read about a rising sign being prone to such. IP: Logged |

It depends on what you consider 'elf-like' but this shows up most often with Capricorn and Libra. These types of ears cannot be pinned (no pun intended) to a single rising sign, but is more an attribute of one's family genetics. However, they do show up in a pattern with these two signs most often.US President John F. Kennedy had ears most people would say fit this description. He was a Libra riser with Saturn up top of his chart. Consider also whether the ears in question have noticeable lobes or none/nearly none. Little or no lobes with the ears tilted out from the head is seen more with Capricorn, particularly when it comes with an elfin look. Nat King Cole was a documented (AA-rated and validated by my rectification) Capricorn riser whose entire appearance, including ears, displayed the typical elfin look of that sign. Little or no lobes shows often with both these signs as you can see by a look at here: http://kannonmcafee.wordpress.com/rising-signs-2/#libra and here: http://kannonmcafee.wordpress.com/rising-signs-2/#capricorn I do not use ears or physical attributes alone to determine rising signs in my rectification work. Personality must also be considered. Sometimes an outward tilt of the upper part of the ears, like here with a young Pat Robertson, is considered 'elfin':

Because physiognomy, the study of physical attributes related to astrological factors (particularly rising/1st house), has a long and worthy tradition in astrology. Because ears are part of the upper head area ruled generally by Aries, thus the 1st house of one's birth horoscope (the lower head/jaw ruled generally by Taurus). ------------------ The Declinations Guy Modern professional astrology - expert rectification IP: Logged |

Family members share astrological legacy, too. That Pat guy doesn't look particularly elfin to me; I wonder if my perception is culturally conditioned as to what is considered elfin. Is the man Irish, perhaps? I can see that if American audiences came to observe and name certain ethnicities in a particular manner. IP: Logged |

I was asking, "Why elf ears?" Therefore your answer does not apply. To apply, then the question would have to have been more general, including "kind of like vampire fangs" or "ears that droop" or "somewhat piggish snout" or even some of the more freakish aspects people can be born with (tail, two penises, hermaphroditic, conjoined twins, etc). That is, a lot more than elf ears. But what caught my attention is that this was asking about elf ears specifically, like these were common enough, like say ears that can wiggle...and then someone else saying she was wondering the same thing. And so I wondered, "Why elf ears?" I presume the media is at play here (and the elf ears fake or otherwise altered to look that way), some celebrity or character in a show or some such that two people (which probably means many more) are suddenly thinking to ask about elf ears. I can't speak for PJ, but my assumption was that her question was regarding two different people thinking about elf ears specifically, not about astrology and appearance in general. Edit. Lol. I think we posted at the same time, PixieJane. Or maybe I took longer than you did to type out my reply...

I see. You were wondering why specifically 'elf' as opposed to any other descriptive characterization. I can't answer for lisalisa as to what chart/person/association/observation triggered 'elf' for her. However, she is not the first by a long shot to make such an association. John Willner (1925 - 2004), a lifelong astrologer used the term/association 'elf' or 'elfin' for the overall look of some Capricorn rising types, which included outward tilting ears, etc. He also used the term 'owlish' to describe many Scorpio rising types like: We might say that 'owlish' is an impression made as much by the type of glasses a person wears, an add-on, and not their physiology, but I've seen the occurrence too many times to ignore it. There are probably innumerable ways to make such characterizations, but of course, to be accepted or effective they would have to have some reference point in familiar mythology, lore, or animal life. ------------------ The Declinations Guy Modern professional astrology - expert rectification

Any Decan I think. I just thought maybe Aries itself doesn't have strong prominent ears but maybe the expression of the eyes (which they have a lot of connection to) might somehow put a lot of emphasis on the ears. I think its kinda cool to have your ears a strong feature IP: Logged |
