What does it mean to have the ruler of your 8th house in the 8th house? my 8th house sign is gemini and mercury in the 8th, but in cancer.

Can someone help and explain what this means or how it would manifest.

Hopefully someone comes along and can help us out

Awesome question and something I've thought about before. I'm a Scorpio Asc with Gemini as my 8th house ruler. I have Moon in Gemini in the 8th house and Rx Mars in Gemini as co-ruler of my chart.

My interpretation is this: Think of the house (8th house) as a country/place. Now think of the house ruler as the president or leader of that country. The country will have basic things that will never change based on geographical location, etc. However, depending on who is leading, the way people go about living in that "country" will change. It's just like how speeding limits are different in different places based on the leaders who make the laws of that place. So astrologically, the 8th house can be thought of as Scorpio's country. The elements of deep feeling, death, sex, etc. will remain the same (that's the geography of Scorpio Land lol). The difference is Scorpio is no longer the "President", Gemini is. So how the citizens are allowed to navigate the geography are according to the rules of Gemini, and thus the types of experiences which occur will also be Gemini based.

With that in mind let's take a look at the 8th house leader in the house that it rules. Here you have a Gemini (your 8th house leader) in Scorpio's country which he (Gemini) also happens to be the president of. Alternatively, you can think of it as being a Jamaican in Jamaica vs. being Russian in Jamaica. Either way, the things in the 8th house will not seem totally out of sync or foreign to you. You will instinctively and naturally feel "at home" in the 8th house. Just like a person who knows the ins and outs of a place b/c they are a native. You will be able to make that placement work for you better than most. However....there is a catch. When a sign is in the house that it rules, it experiences everything within that house more than others (both good and horrible). It's just like the conspiracy theories surrounding the government. Government leaders are said to know about everything that mere civilians don't (scary/weird things).

Time to tie it all together. Gemini as the president of Scorpio Land (8th house) declares that things like death, sex, and depth will be approached with intellectualism/creativity (or you will be thrown in jail lol). Also, since Gemini is a fun/tricky little creature, Scorpio Land may start to look more like a creepy circus/fun house than simply a serious place that deals with these matters. When Gemini is not only the president of Scorpio Land, but also begins to journey through it, things can get intense. The creepy circus-like land (riddled with both humor and horror, with both deep-feeling and intellectualism) doesn't shock him. In fact, it may fascinate and please him (even the things that shouldn't). After all, he did this to Scorpio's Land in the first place. The positive things to be learned from the 8th house (such as spiritual ascension, knowledge, etc.) will come easy. However, Gemini will be just as easily drawn to the negative things of the 8th, as they will be particularly tempting to him since he rules it. It's like the temptations were designed specifically for Gemini. Gemini here will often be dealing with 8th house issues and circumstances much more than signs placed in the 8th that do not rule that house. It's all intensified. So there you have it. 8th house ruler in the 8th house makes you experience the 8th house VERY strongly. You will be drawn to both good and bad things. If consumed by negative 8th house things it will be disastrous (more so than others). If you welcome 8th house lessons/positivity it can be powerful (more so than other). Hope this helped

Hi LbC, where do you have Mercury and/or Neptune and which aspects do they make? Just curious, lol
Maybe I am guessing totally wrong, but I am still a beginner after all
I was impressed by this description, it helps me a lot, I have 7th ruler in 7th house, so I guess there is some analogy!
Thanx!

Hey mar1982delta!! Thanks

You are absolutely right. The same analogy can be used for other placements with the ruler of a house in the house they rule. Just replace the elements

I have Mercury and Neptune in Capricorn (I have quite a bit of Cap actually lol).

Mercury: conjunct Uranus (in Cap) / Trine MidH. (in Virgo) / Inconj. Mars/ Opp. Moon (both in Gemini).

Neptune: conj. Uranus (in Cap)/ conj. Saturn (in Cap)/ Inconj. Jupiter (in Leo)/ Trine Mid.H / Sextile Pluto (in Scorpio)

Hmmm...interesting lol
Maybe you have sth around 3, 13 or 28 degrees Cap? (me : venus cancer, cancer NN, cap Asc)

Oddly enough Mercury and Neptune are not conjunct. I actually never realized this until today while answering your question lol. Oh and yes I definitely feel Uranus and the trines to my Mid.H. are key players

Also, I don't mind sharing that info , but what does sth mean/stand for? There are still a lot of terms I'm not familiar with

wooow I do!

I have Jupiter, Neptune, and Ceres all at 13 degrees. Then I have Mars at 3 degrees and NN at 28 degrees

p.s. sorry for the delayed responses. I'm usually studying a language or multi-tasking in some way while periodically checking LL.

Oh my!!! This is the second time it happens to me here in LL, lol, it is really weird
So, jupiter/Neptune/Ceres conjunct my SN, Mars opp. Venus and NN on my Ascendant (and actually plus your SN on my sun - 0 32 leo)????? How on earth all these happened? lol
That's ok, really nice that you study languages

Thanks, I'm not very proficient but I try. It actually makes sense that this has happened to you before. You have a brilliant mind and are highly gifted. Even from other posts I observed that you have an excellent mind and can effortlessly understand things (astrology related and otherwise).
Very impressed

Whoa that's a lot of chart interaction lol. As you can imagine, I have now taken to analyzing and interpreting the effects of everything LOL. I understand the nodes to be especially interesting in this.
Hmmm...I'm not sure I know anyone in person with a similar interaction with my chart.

Are you joking right? hahahaha, stop flattering me
Actually, the feelings are mutual, I believe you are very smart and gifted and your communication and writing skills really impress me (that's why I started the conversation after all, lol).
I think this might be my Mercury 28 40 cancer conjunct your SN? I forgot to mention it earlier, I was rather shocked, I have not seen so many conjunctions to the nodes for both persons ever again either!
Thank you very much anyway!!!
I am really interested in what you may find though!!! Keep me posted!
And now I stop, because I have ruined KilowJay's thread! KilowJay, sorry about that :/
See you around, LBL!

No not joking at all (I'm a Sag Sun, we're pretty honest, even to the point of getting in trouble lol). So you can trust my word . Wow you are right we sort of destroyed KiloJay's thread

Well I do hope my analysis of the ruler of the 8th in the 8th makes up for some of my damage lol. I really do want to see if Kilo thinks it helps at all.

Ok well great talking to you

Wow! Thank you very much LittleBlackCat, your description was amazing and so well thought out. That is by far the best explanation of the placement, that which you've just written. We have the same placements too haha, Im scorpio rising with gemini moon as well as my sun.

Don't worry about it, the thread is meant to converse among ourselves Oh and sorry about replying so late!

A lot, if not all you described truly resonates, but i have another question if you don't mind. Since gemini rules my 8th house and i have a gemini sun and moon which are however not in the 8th but the 7th, would gemini being in my 8th, colour my sun and moon with '8th house undertones'?

Ruler of my 8th house is in 8th (Leo Sun). I've been described as being intimidating by a lot of people I know. I don't see myself as such....

Aww thanks Kilow! I'm glad it helped you out . Considering that we have the same placements our minds probably work quite similar . As for your second question I absolutely believe the ruler of the 8th gives 8th house tones to any placement it is in. I noticed this while doing a comparison of my Moon in the 8th vs my Mars in the 7th. You see, my Moon being Plutonic was expected (b/c it's in the 8th). However, I kept noticing that my Mars energy was also rather Plutonic. I later found out Gemini ruled my 8th house and it all made sense. I noticed I can literally feel Plutonic energy in any area that I have the sign Gemini. The sign that rules our 8th house sort of carries that energy with itself wherever it goes.

With your Sun being in the sign that rules your 8th, I would imagine that you are more observant and perhaps more reserved than other Gemini Sun types. People are probably fascinated by your eyes. Gemini being your 8th house ruler will give depth/mystery to the already bright/electric eyes of Gemini Sun. On top of all that, Scorpio Asc ppl have intense eyes (if I may say so myself lol). So your eyes must be pretty awesome!
