Can anyone shed some light on this? Do they have the same effect or are there differences?

I think one should read these holistically- instead of in fragments.

In the example mentioned, Saturn and Capricorn are similar. One is the energy(Cap) and the other is a signpost (Saturn)that is affiliated with the energy of Capricorn

So my guess is that both would suggest a sober/serious/delayed approach towards 5th house issues.

It could also suggest that 5th house matters(hobbies,creativity,recreation, children, romance etc) are likely to become the natives possible career(Saturn) or something in which they derive a great sense of accomplishment(Cap)from.

But in both charts, it would be helpful to look at the connection between both i.e

When Saturn is in the 5th, it rules the Cap/Aqua cusp somewhere. So the mentioned cusp house "answers" to Saturn in 5th house issues.

With Cap in the 5th, we have to find Aqua cusp as well as where Saturn(both their rulers) is placed.

The house where Saturn resides will be where the influence is coming from. And these houses will(respectively) be tainted by the issues of the house where Saturn is placed.

I can only speak for Saturn in the 5th because I have it natal in Aries.

Just like a Cap, I was more serious (and inhibited depending on the group of friends) in my youth. As I've aged my energy has definitely become lighter.

I've also noted that I tend to enjoy work that centers around my likes and passions. Fun plus career equals two birds.

@Aries23Degrees,
So, for instance in my case, I have Capricorn on 5th cusp and Aquarius on 6th cusp and Saturn resides in my 3rd house, which is the house of communication. So does that mean that my 5th and 6th houses will struggle with communication? Is that how it works?

@Ann7,
I have noticed something about myself, which is that strangely I can almost never completely unwind and go wild without mentally chaining myself in some way. Even when I'm having real fun, I stop short of completely letting go, and I'm wondering if that is the effect of Capricorn on 5th cusp. While I can't say that my career involves my hobbies, my career has taken a path lately where I create the hours I want, which allow me to pursue my hobbies, which suits me quite fine.

I also wonder how 5th cusp Capricorn ties in with Saturn return, which I am in at the moment.

I have Cap Moon 5H, Aqua Vertex 5H and Leo Saturn 11H.

I have PARTIED in my days! Quite the crazy child..

No children.

Stern approach to how one educates and takes care of a child.

I work with my hobby which relies heavily on other people around the world. It's a very creative field.

I need to work and earn money to feel at peace.

It may depend on other factors in your chart too (ie. the partying part), and I guess one might adopt some parts of Saturn in 5th house characteristics but not other parts (as with any other aspect or placement).

This will be read as ; ruler of the 5th house(Saturn) is in the 3rd house.

Taken crudely,one interpretation could suggest that you get great pleasure(5th) in speaking/writing/reading(3rd).

But since Saturn and Cap influence both house affairs,it is not likely to be just a frivolous past time.

You may hone the pleasure(5th) you get from reading/writing(3rd) and make it a profession- especially if 2nd house is also involved.

Or it could also mean that the content/plots of the types of books you read have a very Saturnine quality to them i.e practical, sober, dry sense of humor and use "old style" writing/diction. Play around with this

Ruler of the 6th house in the 3rd suggests someone who writes/reads or converses with others on an everyday/habitual basis(6th)

But again since Saturn is so sober, your approach to strangers or people you meet when running errands(6th),could be formal, instructive and detached. As you don't "waste" words.

I often think that if the ruler of the 6th and 5th is Saturn. The main aim is to be productive and efficient in both areas of life.

So you prefer "productive" fun/recreation (5th) and "productive" completion of errands and mundane affairs(6th).

The reading/writing isn't the case for me. Or at least it's not my profession, but I have been told several times that when I write about my experiences, that I express myself very creatively and that I should be a writer. At school during English classes, if our assignment was to write a story, mine would be considered one of the best in the class. Maybe if I made that my profession I would have enjoyed it, but alas, that's not how the cookie has crumbled in my life.

Funny, when running errands, I'm not interested in idle chitchat with people who serve me. If they chat with me first, I will respond in a friendly manner, but I almost never initiate it. But I always thought that was due to rising Virgo.

I WOULD say that you could be right and that I prefer to have productive fun, such as learning new things. I dream of being an educated and accomplished person who makes maximum use of my brain. Unfortunately I lack the motivation to achieve that lol. But this is something that I'm wanting/am trying to work on.
