Apparently this only happens 13,14 times a century according to the article.

Does anyone have any thoughts on how this plays out in astrology? Imagine an exact Sun conjunct Mercy in the natal can be either behind the sun, or in front of the Sun... I imagine in front of the sun, Mercury would be much more combust...

It is known as the "transit of Mercury" but this is "transit" in the astronomical sense of it rather than the astrological. Mercury will 'transit' across the Sun. This occurs approximately every nine years so it is relatively rare.

So ANY Sun-Mercury conjunction when Mercury is Retrograde tends to retrieve lost information or provide perspective on a situation (past or present) that is just jaw dropping.

It's a really good few days in which to seek answers or just be receptive to what comes up. It will also be right after an absolutely beautiful New Moon in Taurus, on May 6/7 and in link to Jupiter. So even though - yes, things will feel like they are moving too slow for you in many ways, there are fabulous foundations being laid in May.

As for Monday - the Sun is in harmonious alignment to Jupiter AND Neptune. It's visionary and with a fine vein of dazzling magical inspiration running through it.

Ive read natal Merc in front of the Sun is a true combust, Merc behind the Sun doesn't have the same potency.
My Sun saggy@4.28, Merc saggy@3.32...ive never agreed or identified with what i read in the combust descriptions...

I dont feel personally attacked if someone disagrees with me, i feel we all have the right to our own beliefs.
One way i do think a combust could be showing itself in me is, i believe my beliefs come from my higher self, or from inside me. So if someone tries to sway me, they cant. I can talk and discuss beliefs all day but you wont sway my thoughts or beliefs just by your words and it gets on my nerves if you try to pressure me into thinking your way.
Im not saying im not open to what you've said, i am...but not until ive had time to stop and meditate on what youve said and then sleep in it, to get it into my subconscious. I want to see how the other persons beliefs fit into my higher selfs awareness.
If i get a good feeling about what they have shared with me i will entertain them further and research them further...but not until ive meditated and slept on it.

Its the approach im not open to, i dont like to be forced or pressured into something that is supposed to be a fluid natural process.

Dont mean to get on a soap box...I sorry! 😊

That's really interesting about Mercury crossing the Sun being relatively rare. This happened two days before my birth, with Sun and retrograde Mercury being exactly parallel so they would've been perfectly aligned in the sky. It seems like as often as Mercury goes retrograde that this would be more common.

How can you tell if it's in front of or behind the Sun? If it crosses the Sun wouldn't Mercury have to be in front since it's between the Earth and Sun?

@Gabby

I think your Sun/Mercury combustion is altered by the fact that it's in Sagittarius. Sags may be opinionated, but they also value the thoughts and beliefs of others, personal freedom, and the right to express one's own beliefs. They are quite open minded to the opinions of others and enjoy exchanging ideas with others to learn from different points of view.

The person that insists otherwise could learn a thing or two about being more open minded to the opinions of others. I was quite amused when someone said you are too set in your own opinions and lack self awareness due to that specific placement. The irony is lost on such a person.

I'm sure there are other ways, but one way I use to use is NASA's JPL Orbital Program, REQUIRES JAVA. Click date, and boom, done.

That's highly possible, ive never felt the combust the way it's described. And I couldn't agree more that its amusing when im accused of being set in my ways and lacking self awareness or better yet, that im so caught up in my own head that if someone disagrees with me i take it as a personal attack...but just as you said, they say this without knowing me. Brilliant ppl! 😂
