... to apply for a job, and they asked me to leave a copy of my natal chart as part of the application process. This was truly strange to me, and interesting. What are your thoughts? What would you even look for, in a chart, as an employer? Would you leave your chart as an applicant? IP: Logged |

That's kind of bizarre. I guess they want to see if you would mesh well with the other employees, or be a good fit for the job duties? I know that Chinese astrology is often used in the hiring process. To me it seems like discrimination, but I guess if people are really serious about astrology it's just as important as prior work experience to them. If I wanted the job bad enough I would give them my chart, but I'm a Scorpio with a Moon/Pluto conjunction and a packed 8th house. I think people might be afraid of hiring me based on my chart, unless they really like Scorpios. IP: Logged |

I have never heard of that, but I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Personally, I trust my direct instincts on such things with people, etc. So as an employer, I don't think I'd ever need to ask for the prospective employee's birth data/birth chart. As an applicant, I'd probably say "I'm an astrologer. What do you want to know about my chart? Here I'll give you my data." I would probably quickly grill them or ask them some questions about their chart -- you show me yours, I'll show you mine. If they don't want to, I'd refuse. I might even refuse if I got the sense they didn't know astrology well enough. ------------------ The Declinations Guy Rising Sign Descriptions | Expert rectification IP: Logged |

It's not entirely surprising, but it does seem rather intrusive, and yes I think bordering on discriminatory. I absolutely would not give them my natal chart, any sooner than I would give them access to my Facebook account. IP: Logged |

That's kind of how I saw it. How on earth are they going to judge placements like that? There are so many different ways to interpret Moon/Pluto and Scorpio. Another example would be someone with many squares. What about people who have mastered their squares? Square mastery seems like incentive to hire, but unmastered natal squares seem like trouble. (And still at a very general level) How would they be able to tell?? I'm really curious as to what kind of rubric they're using.. I almost want to go back and ask them instead of applying. Yeah this is exactly why it is discriminatory. Who's to judge whether they are able to overcome the harsher aspects. Also the way an aspect manifests is based largely on the person's environment. I've known someone for half of my life that has a Mars/Pluto conjunction in Scorpio almost to the minute. I was actually shocked to see that in his chart. He is not aggressive at all and is not a very sexual person. I have my theories about how that aspect plays out with him, but I would have never expected him to have it in his chart. I would make all kinds of assumptions about him based on that one aspect alone if I didn't know him.

@SeleniteIt's been a long time since I talked to my friend about this but I'm almost positive that her essential oils company consulted her approximate birth chart before hiring her, and told her so. I don't think she submitted a chart, they just worked off her birthday.

Interesting. I wonder if it's the same place. It seems really small, which is probably why they can get away with asking. IP: Logged |

Yeah it's one of those things where I kind of don't want the job, but I'm curious. I'd have to pay for herbalist classes because I'm not qualified in the 'medicinal properties' realm, so that's pretty much out of the question. ..But if I was qualified, I'd apply just to see what they say about my chart. I wonder if they know about Lindaland? So many questions.. IP: Logged |

i personally don't like this. they can discriminate the same way when they do it by your age or sex or photo on a CV instead of how you do the actual job

It's sounding a bit like a scam now, or at least very manipulative. They also sound like control freaks to me. Of course, I'm only going by what I've read in this thread. IP: Logged |

I would be pretty excited if they asked me. To know I could talk about astrology at work. But you're right, it is unfair if they use it to judge you with out knowing you. IP: Logged |

On one hand, it's cool that they seem to believe in astrology. On the other hand, it seems possible that they may misuse it. I wouldn't leave my chart.

That was also my first reaction, but I tend to think everyone is manipulative and a control freak. I am a little naive though so I took the flyers they gave me. They wanted me to study with herbalists they knew, as an apprentice. It seemed like it made sense at the time, but I knew there would be no chance of me having the time or money to do that. I probably won't go back, but I have a satisfying image in my head of leaving a ridiculous (fake) natal chart... IP: Logged |
