'Lo everyone , As I have a looooooot to learn about astrology, I was hoping that you guys could help me in trying to understand the progressed chart and what it means. Does it describe how my personality progresses? For instance, I was born with sun in Leo, but according to my progressed chart, my sun is in Virgo now. Do I now call myself a Virgo or am I still a Leo? And what does progressed sun in Virgo mean for me? Which chart do I refer to for personality/events occurring in one's life etc? The natal or progressed? And which chart trumps which in different matters? Oh yes, and what's the difference between the progressed chart and transit chart? I know, lots of questions. Sorry! It's all a bit confusing for me. Just try and answer in broader terms if you feel that's easier. Thanks!IP: Logged |

The progressed chart shows other layers of your development. In other words, additional traits that you possess in addition to your natal chart. At least, that's how I understand it.You still call yourself a Leo, but your progressed Sun may indicate that you now have certain traits of Virgo. However, your natal chart does not change, so rest assured that you are going to be a Leo all your life. Personality and events occurring in one's life are best done with the natal chart, because the progressed chart moves at the pace of a snail and unless a transit activates it or a planet changes sign or house you won't find the progressed chart doing much. You might, on the other hand, notice some traits in your personality based on how your chart has progressed so far. Your primary personality traits still come from your natal chart. Progressions move much slower than transits as one year of your life represents a day in progression. I was born on May 5th. When I turned 2-year old, my progressed chart moved to May 7th. Transits are the position of planets on a specific date compared to your natal chart. For example, my Venus sign is at 5 Taurus 25 or 5 degrees in Taurus and 25 minutes. When Venus comes close to 5-degree Taurus again, I will have a Venus transit making a conjunction to my natal Venus. Some of this stuff is very basic, but even though I know what certain things are it's difficult for me to interpret the material and apply it. So, I can't really tell you what your Progressed Sun means specifically. Perhaps someone else can give you more information on that. IP: Logged |

Progressed planets exacting a strong aspect to your natal will make themselves felt very clearly though. IP: Logged |

Yes. quote:

Still a Leo. The birth chart sets an imprint that lasts for this entire lifetime (unless you intentionally alter it). quote:
And what does progressed sun in Virgo mean for me?
Depends on the whole of your chart, but generally it means learning what it is like to be more discriminating in how you use/project your energies; turning ambitions, goals, aspirations into bite-size smaller steps; learning the nitty gritty details of what is involved in the life or work you have taken on. quote:
Which chart do I refer to for personality/events occurring in one's life etc? The natal or progressed? And which chart trumps which in different matters?
The natal chart always trumps every other astrological consideration. It is the platform upon which everything happens. It is the basis of personality and individuality. quote:
Oh yes, and what's the difference between the progressed chart and transit chart?
The birth chart may be progressed by a number of different methods, but the secondary method is the most commonly used. The progressed chart uses a day-for-day-year principle which is a symbolic basis. Aspects that occur in it need to be exact or very close to culmination to be active. That means within 0°05' or so of exact, depending on the planets involved and whether applying or separating. The transit chart shows the current real movement of the planets - no symbolic positioning - against the backdrop of your natal chart. These show processes of growth and development. For a beginner, first learn your natal chart. Then, when you can easily navigate it with no confusion, you can track your transits. Progressed charts are best left to intermediate to advanced students and professionals. ------------------ The Declinations Guy Rising Sign Descriptions | Expert rectification IP: Logged |
