First off, how long have you been studying astrology?Second, how many times a week would you say you study or read about astrology? Third, what has helped you learn better or faster? Share any study tips For me, I discovered astrology when I was about 17 so I've "known" about it for 8yrs now but I wasn't consistently putting in any effort to learn it until recently. So I'd say I've been realistically "studying" it for only a couple years. As far as 2016 goes, I've been consistently reading about astrology at the minimum, 3 days out of the week. Usually it's everyday though. But once September comes I'll have a busier schedule so I won't be able to devote much time. Being on here and reading through old and new threads has helped a lot. Sometimes, the generic interpretations you get on the internet really don't cut it (though not to downplay the sources). IP: Logged |

I've been studying/practicing astrology for around 3 years. I almost exclusively read here and look at charts of people that I know. But if you count any of that as studying, then, daily. Lindaland has been my biggest teacher by far combined with comparison to what I observe personally. I've looked up a lot of aspects in the past. I'd look up a chart one aspect at a time. IP: Logged |

lindaland provides a space for people sharing experiences, but sometimes there is too much repetition that for "learning" it is better to go to books.. of course, some people write here very useful insights. no doubt! i read regularly books of astrology (planets, aspects, etc) i prefer books as it allows me to focus.. i have many years, but probably during the last 5 years i have intentionally tried to be more systematic with books. I study astrology all the time, every day. Sometimes I need a break from it because I put so much time into it but I always come back to it lol. For my research I do many things, which included research based on online sources and astrology books I buy. I do astrological comparisons with people's natal charts in order to get better understandings of how these types of energies work, so my readings are more accurate. I also constantly study my own in order to understand the most I can, for I always feel like there is something more to be found. I do SO much studying on it that one's mind may explode lol. I've been studying it for one-two years, and surprisingly I expected people like DopGang to have studied it longer from what I've read based on their interpretations. Interesting... Also Lindaland has been very helpful in the growth of my knowledge. ------------------ Aquarius Sun, Merc, Venus, Uranus, Neptune Scorpio Mars conj. I started getting into studying astrology heavily around October of last year, though I've always had an affinity it went untapped until then for some reason! I was able to engage and play with the tarot, but i would forget about pursuing astrology for years at a time. Altogether since then i think i study about 2-3 hours a day every weekday, and average about 3-8 hours over the course of a usual weekend. (I commute 3hrs/day by bus so it gives me a lot of time to read and study) I stretch my understanding in a scattershot way by researching every variant of astrology i find as i come across it, looking for what does and doesn't run consistently between all systems and viewpoints (closest comparison i can think of is like studying underlying logical syntax shared between languages, rather than the societally determined overlay of grammar/dialect). So usually I'm parsing huge chunks of data and dowsing for what feels important to pursue at the moment. I've come across a lot of serendipitous insights this way, including spontaneous (and accurate) predictions/forecasts for myself and my partner. IP: Logged |

Grew up with generic talk about sun signs. In high school pinched mum's sun sign book by Linda and use to read it with girl friends and who they had a crush on at the time. Which usually left us giggling. Still have the book and repaired it a few times since falling apart. Still disagree with what she says about "A Capricorn girl not believing in Leprechauns if one sat on the end of her nose" but otherwise love it.After high school found out about the other planets. But really starting studying it since joined here in April. After have gone through all the posts and links on here to extract the information, will probably go and see if any other websites offer additional information that haven't found through links on here. Though doubt it since most seems to be the same so far, just written differently. Then it will be collecting books to look at and finally getting test subjects to see if have learnt anything properly and understood it. IP: Logged |

bacio: By systems do you mean Western, Vedic, etc? How do you collect data for these things? I've found it hard b/c most people don't know their birthtimes. Celebrity charts help but since you don't know them in real life it's kind of a skewed perspective.Gabriel Lee: Yeah I remember when you first joined the forum. Thankyou. Think biggest distractions at the moment are not jumping from subject to subject. Also dividing up things into areas of study. Like at the moment have natal basics and natal advanced. Need to focus on learning basics before going on to other areas. What about you, how do you go about studying it? IP: Logged |

I have that same problem... I'll be reading on one subject then the next minute I'll be reading something else. I learned my basics by re-reading the same interpretations and watching the same Youtube videos over and over. Learning all of my friends' planet placements helped and it was easier since you don't need birth time. I also studied my own chart for a really long time - I'd say for months I focused on learning every last bit of my own chart. I'd compare other people's interpretations to my own, and see if they match - sometimes they don't, so in that case I'll try to use my own judgement, so slowly I started building my own intuition. I've always had a passing interest. Probably picked it up from my grandmother. But I started learning how to read a chart in my early twenties. That was about 30 years ago. I've set it aside for years at a time though, then come back at times. My best advice for learning would be this. First, learn the basics. Signs, planets, aspects, elements, modes, everything. This in the vocabulary a chart uses to speak to you. Read different authors. Compare what they say. Get your own understanding of each of the pieces of a chart. Then, do charts for everybody you know. Get real life observations of the book learning you already did. This is where you will start putting the words of astrology into sentences and paragraphs and finally stories. IP: Logged |
