Here is a link I just turned up which I think an excellent resource for those interested in exploring this aspect.
http://www.astrologyweekly.com/astrological-aspects/semisquare-8th-harmonic.php

I looked it up because I noticed the tightest transiting aspect for my friend right now is Saturn semisquare Pluto and the description on this site here seems very descriptive of his present attitude and challenge.

I think ignoring semisquares and sesquisquares by transit leaves a huge piece of the puzzle out. They are very useful to see the areas of greatest developmental tension, which may go unresolved but which are certainly making themselves known...

Your thoughts?

Yes, I noticed semisquraes and sesiquares being important as well, though curiously enough they always slip from my mind again, even if they should not.

I noticed in particular their impact when they result in midpoint pictures (as part of Thor`s Hammer of the minor T-square, as I call it: a square of two planets which are semisquare or sesisquare a third planet).

I have not payed proper attention to them in transits (though noticing their importance in solar-lunar phases in composites at the onset of a relationship).

I currently do not have exact 8th harmonic transits (Tr Uranus sesisquares my ASC with 1°06 though).

however solar arc Pluto semisquares my n Venus 0°10

oh wow

pPLuto semisquare pVertex 0°00!
(I never would have known if it had not been for this thread!)

pVenus semisquare pASC 0°25

pMoon semisquare p Pluto (0°43)
pMoon is conjunct pVertex 0°43 - applying

That is definitely significant! I want to look at solar arcs now but it will have to wait.. traveling...

I would forget about semisquares except thatwhen i do daily transit checks using this nifty Astrotab app they're so often prominent... and well, who could ignore Saturn semi square Pluto 0'01?!!

I have Sun semisquare Moon natally and the description on this site really resonated with me--more than others I've found.

For anybody unfamiliar with this aspect, it is a 45 degreeangle between any two points. Easy to calculate and very useful in midpoint analysis. The sesquisquare of any point is the opposite degree to the semisquare. Would love to explore the sesquisquares also whether here or in another thread. I experience them as significantly more benevolent than the semisquare... not that i don't love tension and all...

Yes, agreed! These are pretty potent.
In fact, we'd had a thread recently where we discussed these...

I think I'd mentioned this article which explained one of my natal semisquares perfectly (Sun-semisquare-Venus).

They're more of a constant grinding, unsettling energy than the square. More persistent and niggling. Squares will give rise to huge, dramatic energy shifts and conflicts within oneself - which are easy to pick up on (even if not easy to work with). Semisquares and other 'minor' aspects, on the other hand, can really sneak up on us and hit us blindside if we're not aware enough to deal with this energy. It was a while before I recognised these in me, and even longer before I tried to channel them constructively. Still WIP.

P.S. Yungang, could you share your experiences of the sesquisquares? I haven't observed them much as I'd like to...
