I never grew up with any sort of religious/ spiritual influence. So growing up, I was always really fascinated with all different perspectives of religion and philosophies from all over. shamanism, tribal mysticism was and is still fascinating to me.

my Saturn and Neptune are conj in the 9th and my Uranus is on the cusp of 8/9 also conj. probably contributing to my eager fascination with tribal mysticism.

So.. I have these medicine cards, and when first getting the deck, at some point you pull your totem spread that represents your 7 animal medicine. the first 4 cards were so perfect it was almost comical, bat, black panther, lizard, then butterfly. When I was reading about the Bat totem.. it talks about the concept of "rebirth" and it gives a shamanic ritual as an example.. of the concept of resurrecting oneself, by having a symbolic death, which is created physically through digging a hole and burying oneself only to be reborn again. This story really made an impression on me.. I could relate to it on so many levels, it reminds me of my strong Pluto presence..
Ive done other readings on shamanism and having an ego death at some point is in a way a crucial factor in becoming a shaman. To be taken apart, then put back together and taken to the edge of the veil on reality and spirit. Its essentially the healed wounded healer. in order to know how to heal others we must heal ourselves and be reborn. Everything about these concepts are so synchronized with Pluto I feel and as I start to think about it, many very spiritually inclined peoples that I know, have very prominent plutos. While on a trip to costa rica.. I met a group of people I will never forget meeting! who was a very mystical group of channelers, reiki master, little shaman and spiritual junkies to say the least.. but 3 of them had prominent Plutos and were very drawn to shamanism and just living a deeply meaningful, healing life.

I have read before though I cannot remember the reference right away.. but it had to do with my venus/pluto conj in scorpio and it said how scorpio/pluto is drawn to shamanism and mystical, earthy types of mysticism. which immediately rang true to me.

Plutonians! make sense?! same draw?
scorpions! same same?
9th house?!

Yeah, makes sense this Plutonian gal, and you got the core part, about the symbolic and ego death that's then put back together.

I know that some ancient cultures required an actual near death experience at some point before accepting a person. That makes me think of someone who was involved in mysticism about his whole life, and had lots of encounters with spirits as a child...and he had a NDE when he was a toddler, which is probably what opened him up to that world (though his Pisces moon no doubt helped).

The therapist I currently work with is also a shaman. I love her. She is Virgo rising with Pluto in the 1st, retrograde and anaretic. She also has 2 more anaretic planets - I think it's symbolic for the "ego death".

Great topic. I arrived at the same conclusion last year as Pluto transited over my 12H cusp.

I'm strongly drawn to shamanism and have ancestral connections to it too.

My Pluto is in Scorpio, 9H.
Opposite my Moon.
Square my Venus, and my ASC-DSC Axis.
Sextile my Sun, Neptune and Mercury.
Semi-square my Saturn and Uranus.

@PixieJane yeah theres a few indicators as far as initiations go and having those near death experiences, or having visions of spirits tearing you apart and ego deaths are apart of the process. I think just he exposure to the "spirit" realm is what the shaman represents as far as a bridge to that world. ive read that a lot of times you have to be born into it, or theres some sort of sign during birth that's significant, or theres a physical handicap or a part of the body is badly injured/chronically an issue. mayans believed certain days you were born on would give you "lightning" in the blood, jaguar is one of them and I'm a jaguar! usually its some sort of calling and the person has to accept the calling and its a life long journey.. so cool! maybe in a next life
that sounds really neat about your friend, or person you knew, what is NDE? pisces would certainly help in that sphere, how scary to see spirits at such a young age! no matter how fascinated I am, everytime ive had to encounter a ghost its really scary.

@Dancing Maenad oooOOoooo cool! sounds about right with her pluto virgo in the healing profession! if you don't mind me asking, what does anaretic mean?

@SaturnFan thank you! how did your transit go? pretty soon I'm going to have my pluto conj my MH.. I'm pretty interested in how that's gonna go! my pluto is in my 9th right meow, it makes so much sense to me that pluto placed here would be drawn to shamanism. that's so neat you have ancestry in shamanism, just having that kind of connection or influence would be so lovely I think..

NDE = Near Death Experience

He was electrocuted from playing a game he called "plug" in which he'd stick things into electrical sockets (as electricity was magical to him). One day he did it with his mother's keys and found himself outside his body and didn't even realize anything was odd until his mother ran right through him (which is why I dismiss the skeptic's explanation that this experience is shaped by belief and expectation).

Interesting enough, there was a glow in the dark clock that had always scared him (in retrospect, he believes he sensed them as animal eyes in the dark), and when his mother switched the power off, he turned to the clock expecting to be scared...but wasn't. He found that odd as well, and then that's all he remembers (his mother pulled him away from the socket and used CPR on him).

He'd later get taken from that home and put into another that was abusive, and he believes that's why he had such terrible nightmares as a little boy, but it could've been shamanic in nature as well (it included nightmares of him being dismembered). The spirit sensing (which included seeing and hearing, sometimes so he thought it was a real person) were so common that he got used to it, but there were a few scary incidents.

But one started as a "breathing" under his bed, which stopped whenever he called out to his parents, and was terrified for awhile, but finally started talking, with the breathing slowly becoming a raspy voice, and he said it was like "tuning into a station," it was very difficult to make out (though the breathing was audible) for a long while, and they became friends, but they could only speak in his room for some reason, though he'd also visit in dreams (in which the spirit appeared as a blond boy his own age wearing white who showed him the future in incredible detail, all literal). The spirit also told him that his mother was listening to them talk and when he checked, she was.

He doesn't know why, but his friend was just gone one day, never to return...save, maybe, one time. He was 14 and caught in a giant pool that generated artificial waves, and he realized he was going to drown. A large blond man, a lifeguard in white trunks, was yelling at him like a drill sergeant to swim to him, and though it was near impossible he did, and then, utterly exhausted, realized that lifeguard saved his life...but when he looked around, no such lifeguard existed. He believes it was his friend who took on the form of an authority figure to save his life, though the spirit hadn't talked to him in years (and never did again after this, not even in dreams).

When he told me that was when I told him that his NDE probably opened him up to the spirit realm and he thought that made a lot of sense. He'd get into actual shamanistic practices as an adult (before we met).

The transit brought me to Jungian psychology, dream interpretation and the uncovering of deep ancestral stories and issues - a part of which was the re-connection with my Shamanic roots It was a very difficult phase, but absolutely worth it.
I knew Moon-Pluto is connected to Shamanism, but never considered the significance of the 9H. Thank you for pointing it out.
Good luck with your Pluto to MH transit! It will certainly bring you close to your life's purpose

wow that's a really awesome story, very interesting! do you know what his other placements are other than pisces moon?
its so cool to me how theres this underlying and connecting theme that leads to shamanic practices, being dreams, spirits and terrifying death experiences.. ha

@saturnfan thank you lots! i like that you say that because i hope that transit brings me closer to my lifes purpose! when i looked up the transit i actually found Saturn and Jupiter to be included in that transit ! gonna be very interesting...
