The solar return chart changes so radically with travel---but instead of the chart for wherever you are on your birthday "sticking", why isn't it that the Solar Return chart for wherever you are at the time applies? For example, if I go to Paris for my birthday but spend the year in Tokyo, the way I've heard it done was that the chart calculated in Paris would be the one to use. But why isn't it that, when I'm in Paris, the Solar Return for Paris applies, and then when I'm in Tokyo, the Tokyo chart applies. So even if I was not physically in Paris when the Solar Return happened, if I go to Paris later in the year, the Paris chart would still apply while I'm there. Reference place is so crucial to Solar Returns--I'm just wondering how accurate that really is. I guess for Lunar another personal planet return charts, it would be the same issue.

Who really would know for certain?Solar Return astrologers would say it definitely works... and in a way i bet it does. Their explanation is that you get bathed by the planetary positions during your solar return and this lasts the entire year, similar to a birth chart. However i believe when you move your ascendant and house cusps change which is very important. This guy has a lot of experience and his book is interesting: http://www.solarreturns.com/Solar_Returns_book.htm IP: Logged |

There are many different opinions of that out there actually. NOt every astrologer believes that you actually can travel for your Solar Return unless you will spend a lot of time during the year there. Personally I think the location where oyu will spend the most time the year or your "homebase" will be the one applicable. IP: Logged |

I'm starting to think, if your SR chart looks more magical and intense and interesting for some other place, maybe it means that would be a better place for you to be for the year. But I'm skeptical about the SR in general and especially the whole "bathed by the energy of the birthday" thing, because (asscendent and SR house placements aside), that would mean that you "feel" the transits you had on your birthday for the entire year....which hasn't been my experience. I think you "feel" the transits that are actually going on. But I have noticed a lot of importance in the house placements of both my Solar and Lunar returns....they've accurately predicted certain things. So I don't know. IP: Logged |

Well you feel the transits at your birth all your life, so Solar Returns were just expanding on that idea that a transit chart when a baby was being born would tell us about the baby`s personality and future. However, I do understand your reservations and have been having them myself some years ago.
I can see my solar return - and frankly, even more so my lunar return- in play though, when I look back over the years (always in connection to my natal of course. A Return chart without comparing to the natal makes no sense, just like it makes no sense using progressions on their own and NOT against the backdrop of the natal chart). But I still think the transits are more "energized". The solar Return might be like a background-potential, but it needs to be triggered by transits. However IF it does, I usually saw some astounding things happening.
Or actually the reverse, at the time of improtant events, there were usually prominent transits to the Return chart. Having said that there were of course also important tight transits to the natal and progressed chart, so it might be the Return is actually obsolete. lol IP: Logged |

My experience with this was that the location where you travel to is the one that decides what will happen. Last year I went to Amsterdam for my bday and the SR chart changed quite a bit, enough to portray an event which wasn't visible on the initial chart: my Mom died. I only stayed in Amsterdam for a few days and my Mom's death happened a few months later, while I was living in my current city. I am on my phone now but I can upload the charts tomorrow morning if you want. Point is: it works. I intend to have a baby next year so I'm gonna travel to a nearby city that would put Jupiter in the 5th for next year, if I don't travel it will be in the 6th. IP: Logged |
