I realized after following up on my years-ago ancient post asking for more information about natal mars conjunct vertex in relocation charts that I should similarly impart lessons here.

It doesn't matter if your beautiful happy relationship is 6 months or 8 months sweetness and games. Mine was too. But life is WAY too short to spend your energy soul and heart on somebody who will react physically and angrily to things you say. You deserve so much more dignity peace and grace in your life than that. DO NOT GET INVOLVED. THERE WILL BE OTHERS.

I have had magical mercury synastries where it felt like our conversations reached a magical, transcendent plane (Neptune, of course) or that we could just talk for hours and completely understood each other and came away nourished (Moon, Jupiter).

But Mercury square Mars synastry is the worst, worst, worst synastry in my opinion to have become is promises fights - and fights that will keep going, building, raging, until someone gets physically hurt. It's not worth it. Chances are you won't fall in love with people who square your moon or other awkward things, so those awful synastries are irrelevant - yet for Mercury square Mars, people often convince themselves that they can make it work. And they can't. Because one person usually ends up calling the cops.

Anyway my lesson here is just don't do it. Run away as fast as you can.

There's plenty more fish in the sea!

Well...let's not make broad sweeping statements about this placement. It's doesn't ALWAYS end in physical violence. For that, there has to be more involved (like Pluto) and the person who initiates the violent outburst must have a hot temper themselves so the natal chart comes into play.

I agree this placement does cause friction as I've seen it play out in my own life and in those of people around me, but it's more heated arguments and misunderstandings. The Mars person gets annoyed by the things Mercury says and calls them out, which puts Mercury on the defense and so the argument begins. I think how well these people tolerate this friction depends on their own individual temperaments (which the natal can help explain). Some people feel a lot of inner angst and love to argue, feeling invigorated when doing so. Others prefer peace and harmony so this would be intolerable.

I think as long as both people are tolerant of this energy or have the personality to put up with it, then it CAN work. It's highly individual though.

I feel like you're placing the blame on just one aspect in synastry.

You don't have to run away from someone you have a Mercury-Mars square with. There are other aspects in synastry that can make things better for you both.

With physical fights and etc. that has more
to do with Mars-Pluto.

Also, get rid of the idea that just because you have poor aspects with someone, things won't work out. I have a very good friend of mine whose personal Capricorn planets are squaring most if not ALL of my personal Libra planets. But I think it balances out because at the same time, his Capricorn planets conjuncts my Ascendant. Which brings me back to saying, don't dismiss a relationship based on one aspect.

And yes, you 'may' fall in love with people who square your moon, but it will take additional effort compared to someone you have Moon trines/sextiles with.

My husband and I have very bad aspects between Mars, Pluto, Uranus and Mercury. Yes, we can have pretty bad arguments but they don't involve physical violence and/or derogatory meanings. We fight fair. Despite this, we have other very nice and flowing aspects that overrule the other bad ones.

One person can have a sh*tty looking chart BUT there's that one little placement that changes everything and makes it better. Secondly, we all kinda have a CHOICE in what we say and do towards others..

I have Mercury-Mars square natally and i can get quite argumentative about 9th house issues (Mercury in 9th)

So i can imagine the amount of restraint that one may have to practice when dealing with the same square in synastry.

But at the same time, there is something super attractive about squares. They can be so stimulating and exciting(beating off even the conjunction).

The tension pulls one in and may even be mistook for sexual tension(especially when Mars is involved).

My sister and I share an inconjunct synastry aspect between my Mercury in Cap and her Mars in Gemini. And it does most certainly feel that she does challenge most of what I say. Even taking on an offensive approach.

But our Mars are in perfect trine , my Jupiter opposes her Mars and her Mars also conjuncts my North Node. So i do "get" her approach.

Although i must add that Mars really does incite a passionate response on the other person (maybe because they just are so abrupt). So its not always the Mars person that throws the first punch. But it may certainly be the Mars person that inspires it

I have noticed that Mercury in Aries in composite also has a similar playout. Arguments and disagreements all round.

My son's Aries Mercury is square my Cap Mars, and my husband's Saturn is square both my Sun and Moon, conjunct my SN.

Yes, we are all very LOUD, and we do disagree daily on the most petty stuff (we also all have Pluto, Uranus, and Saturn conjunct).

But at the end of the day, pleasant Venus, Moon, and Pluto aspects win out. We aren't violent (although my son can lash out, but he's five and has an Aries stellium), and we always apologize where and when we need to.
