Is it that a 12th house moon might like more alone time than the neptune-moon person or are they more private with their feelings or what is it?

I have the opposition and i can relate a lot to what has been said about 12th house moon esp regarding emotions like for example not always saying nor understanding what they feel and just being very private with their inner lives and those things.

To my understanding, Moon in 12th suggests someone who does not show their more vulnerable disposition and may even prefer to separate this nature from the others that they expressly show.

Now if Moon is in aspect to Neptune, it makes the emotional mind (Moon) more susceptible to internal stimuli(neptune). Usually that of a more ethereal or spiritual sort.

Both are used synonymously to describe a senstive, impressionable and somewhat idealistic individual.

But it is usually the Moon in 12th specifically that is particularly potent. Where the individual may feel like they constantly "live"(Moon) in then crevices of where dreams and reality blur.

This may make that individual seem to "hide" from the glare of others or be very indirect in expressing themselves.

Its not that they mean to be really. Its just that they feel that they are "spectators" of a life of both nebulous and tangible experiences where they find that they are constantly at a state of meditation and never really sure of what is happening..

I have my Pisces Moon in the 12th house while sextiling Neptune (2 degree orb). I daydream constantly and am extremely introverted where I feel like I need around 5 hours or more of alone time each day. I'm very idealistic also and spend my leisure time alone painting, listening to music, doing yoga, and looking things up on the Internet. I'm not sure how to differentiate them, since I have both, but I suspect depending on how strong the Moon/Neptune aspect is that it can appear like a 12th house Moon. Mine's only a sextile, and since my Moon is in Pisces in the 12th house of Pisces it must be the stronger part of my chart compared to the Moon/Neptune aspect. Since you have the opposition, I can see why you could perhaps relate to a 12th house Mooner.

The answer to your question is first an obvious structural one. Moon conjunct Neptune is an aspect that comes into and out of alignment over about a day or so. So it includes more people during that time period and without regard to a specific location of birth.
-- It relates to great inner idealism and/or imagination, creativity, along with tendencies for uncertainty, unclear feelings about some things/people, insecurity, tendency to seek refuge in stronger persons, substances, or ideations.

Moon in the 12th house -- genuinely -- must be known by exact location, birth info and properly aligned rising degree, so is more specific to the individual. However, the interpretation can vary depending on what else is there (in aspect) with it, how close it is to the Asc. We`re getting into specifics known only with very personal verification.
-- It is far more specific, given that it lasts an average of only 2 hours, yet occupies a general field of themes that are harder to define than say Moon, Neptune, or Pisces.

- The 12th is the final house of endings, and planets there can signify patterns that are being brought into psychological prominence for exposure and elimination.

- The 12th is sub-conscious, and mental health (as opposed to the 6th of the unconscious link to bodily health)
- The 12th is also in Earth`s rotation the place of sunrise, potential for new starts if the person is willing to engage in the service, psychological self-discovery, elimination of guilt, etc, that is necessary to move on.

Think of inner purification by light exposure similarly to how water can be purified by exposure to UV light.

Moon in the 12th House
States of being. The 12th House is the unconscious/subconscious (I think energy flows between these two terms). Pretty much moon is hidden/hiding/has hidden. It's very much about place/space/time and various stages of being. This being you, this being life. Life you being. Moon in the 12 House being is isolated/prefers privacy/alone time because that is an extension of their being.

Moon Neptune aspects
States of feelings. The moon is much more fickle/ever changing than the Moon in the 12th House. This placement has more to do with sensitivity than privacy/alone time (though these things can be the result/reaction of moon neptune feelings/emotions).

An ex had moon in 12th. He couldn't share with anyone the nature of his work. I wonder if that's the hidden institutional aspect. even though he could be forthcoming with emotions it felt equally compartmentalised.

I've moon conjunct Neptune. I'm very restless, uncertain of things, everything blurs together. I might share an elusive quality like a moon in the 12th but it feels in a more undefined way. My emotions are a mystery to me.

Both seem to share an inner fantasy world that is revelled in but from my experience there's more integrating with the outer world with moon/Neptune e.g I experience it through art.

I liked more alone time as moon/Neptune but there was an aloneness about the moon in 12th, even socially which they sought more.

I think @lycat nailed it
