Vedic and Western astrology may seem different, but the basic principles such as the meaning of houses, signs and planets is the same. The only major difference is how they deifne the zodiac - Sidereal (Vedic), Tropical (Western). Here's an article with a complete explanation: http://www.farfaraway.co/blog/vedic-astrology-vs-western IP: Logged |

As far as I know there are some distinct differences in what the houses mean, too. Like the 2nd house representing speech and communication, too, in Vedic astrology, which it does not in western astrology. IP: Logged |

No... 3rd house rules general communication. 2nd house rules public speaking skills and voice. IP: Logged |

Yes, but "public speaking skills" is not really a meaning of the 2nd house in WEstern astrology (though I can see how it could extend to that as well, representing the talents/assets we are being given)IP: Logged |

Yes! so in my opinion, the 2nd house represents speech and voice whereas the 3rd house has to be with communication including non verbal communication such as writing (what we are doing here), painting, dancing - something we create and it conveys a message to the world.IP: Logged |

It`s actually very much in tune with the theory of "transpersonal astrology" (a german astrology school or method), but I have not seen it mentioned in any other astrological approach in Western astrology (maybe in some medieval texts, I could imagine that - there has some clarity gotten lost in modern times unfortunately)IP: Logged |

I have to disagree. There is soooooo much more that is different between these two systems of astrology. Just to name a few: the combustion principle, the concept of karaka houses, the importance of the moon, the divisional charts, the dasha/dasa periods, etc... Besides, some vedic astrologers are actually using the tropical chart with great success, so tropical vs sidereal is no longer considered a major difference. Check out the vedic astrologer Ernst Wilhelm.

So I did cover the karaka houses, the importance of the moon, the divisional charts, the dasha/dasa periods, etc...all of them in this article posted above http://www.farfaraway.co/blog/vedic-astrology-vs-western Yes! I agree a lot of Vedic astrologers use the tropical system - I think, it boils down to individual preference based on experience. I would love to see a research one day that predicts life events of a sample of people through the two systems and calculates which system is more accurate. IP: Logged |
