Haha i have lost counts of how many times i have surprised people with what i remember. I have heard soooo many times " how in the world did you remember that?" or " i can`t believe you actually remembered that"
People even get sometimes freaked out with what i remember or what i know about them.

Is our memory truly unmatched ? I know scorpios are close by but are they at the same level as us?

I'm neither but I have a Cancer Sun, Merc, Venus. I have a very good memory and an ever better eye for details (Virgo ASC). I hardly forget anything incl birthdays, account numbers, card numbers, names, streets in foreign cities etc etc

What's funny is that I can slack a bit with my own writing but when I read books/texts/letters others have written, misspellings and grammar stand out like a polar bear in the desert!

I don't have any planets in Cancer but I do have a fourth house stellium with four planets conjunct my IC and three planets in the fourth (in Equal Houses it would be five planets in the fourth). I have remembered things my parents were completely shocked about, friends too. Sometimes I've forgotten things my friends have remembered that I must've have discarded but I remember a lot of things.

Funny thing is though is that I also am a Scorpio Ascendant with an 8th house Moon, so that must contribute to it somehow.

Scorpio Ascendant
Aquarius Sun in 4th
Gemini Moon in 8th

I have a progressed cancer ascendant and Mercury if that counts. People say that to me too. Also there's someone I know of cancer sun and Mercury and his memory is phenomenal. Not to mention his Virgo moon with eye for everything. He should be a doctor but he wants to be in a creative field instead. Good eye for beauty, soaks and retains everything like a sponge.

Sometimes nobody cares for what you remember Only other water Moon/Asc or placements will because they associate that with someone who genuinely cares for them.

I remember wishing a Scorpio Moon a happy birthday. He responded with a call and was clearly very appreciative-as he said that he had forgotten about his own birthday because of work stress.

i would have to disagree. I have both Cancer Moon and rising and always had a poor memory for details.

As a general rule, I see Cancer and Scorpio moon remembering their feelings (and how others made them feel or how they felt about someone else at that time) over what actually happened (and can even become delusional if the feelings are too intense). Others can remember feelings, of course, it's just not as emphasized or dominating in their memories.

Strangely, I knew a Scorpio moon (and stellium) who excelled at selective memory and dissociation (I actually wondered if she had multiple personalities), though even then she did not forget a feeling ever, and even wrote poetry about even some trivial things in childhood that haunted her, though she had known some severe trauma in her life (and perhaps the trivial stuff was something she could deal with over the intense stuff, or it represented her feelings of betrayal that she could not depend on certain people to protect her from the bad in the world, who made her feel terrible instead of safe & loved).

Pisces moons, however, can be surreal. Funny stories there, but I don't feel like sharing.

I'm not certain if this is the case or not, but I suspect fire moons (like my own, but I'm also basing this on other moons I've known) may be more prone to PTSD, at least the more physical expressions of it. That is, traumatic events that stoke our adrenaline can be burned into our consciousness, and the adrenaline (and need to act on it) comes too easy. Perhaps an air moon would be more likely to dissociate instead?

I wish I knew more of the runaways I once mixed with, as they reacted differently to different types of prolonged and/or extreme abuse, from rage to despair to just feeling nothing. There were other interesting differences as well.

But this is veering OT, though it does deal with memory and emotions under extreme circumstances. It's been a mystery to me why some people manage to blank out such experiences while others can't move past such memories that replay over and over, though I did once suppress the memory of something horrible for several months as a child when my grandmother told me to just forget it happened (which is odd remembering it now but doesn't give me any insight to the mental mechanics of it, and even during those months of memory loss I was haunted by nightmares that would cause me to briefly remember before I forgot it all again).

On a more mundane level, I'm convinced most people forget much of their childhoods given that they should know better, but don't. Like how many adults forget how "do as I say, not as a do" cost adults respect, and then grow up to do the same thing and seeming surprised the kids don't respect them when they should know why (and that it's not the scapegoats they come up with to explain it).

I was also shocked to hear of an anti-bully vid played at a local school a few years ago, which the little boy I knew who saw it lost respect for the school faculty that would play such a stupid, ignorant video and I agreed with him that he was right to lose respect for those adults (not to say he had permission to spit on them, just to ignore their fake wisdom and worthless life experience). I recall seeing vids like that at his age and me and so many others felt the same way, so why are vids like that still being played? Don't they know how it costs them (the adults) credibility?

Perhaps it's robotic (because they don't know what to do but feel like they must do SOMETHING, so do what was done to them as kids as they can't think of anything better), but these are just 2 examples for why I can't help but think it's because most have forgotten how the world looked as children so that the same mistakes are repeated over and over, generation to generation, by people who should know better.

Yes! I'm a Cancer rising and most people are surprised at how good my memory is. I have memories of the first day of preschool way back in early 1996 when I was only 4! I remember that my preschool teacher was a sweet middle-aged lady who was wearing those ugly 90's style "mom jeans" the first day I met her lol. I also remember I had another preschool teacher who would always make fun of how "fat and White she was" and who also seemed to have an affinity for long fake purple nails and obscene amounts of unblended purple eyeshadow lol.

I'm a Cancer Sun, Mercury, and Venus with both my Sun and Venus conjuncting my IC in Cancer and my sister is a Cancer Ascendant. We both have really good memories and can remember things much more so than the average person. My sister could remember events really clearly since she was 2 years old! She also has a sharp memory of past events whereas I'm not able to recall such details.

However, another thing I noticed that me and her differ in is that I have a better memory for more minor details like remembering people's birthdays, their favorite color, interests, etc. whereas she's better at remembering past events with extreme detail where she can remember what she was wearing on that particular day. My memory of past events is pretty murky except for remembering other people's faces and the location. What I tend to remember most when thinking about the past was how I felt at the time more than dialogue and other minor details surrounding that memory.

I have read that Cancers never forget when you react negatively towards them, and I have to say that it rings true for me. My sister also points out times when I said or did something mean towards her in the past to this day, so I think maybe since we tend to have such strong feelings, that we are able to connect a feeling we felt in the past to the other details surrounding that particular memory.

I don't know if there is a correlation of some sort between different Cancer placements and better memory, but at least I have noticed some interesting distinctions between me and her compared to the average person at remembering things.

My midheaven and Chiron are in Cancer, but my moon is in Scorpio. I wouldn't have commented, but what PixieJane said has really resonated with me. I never forget a feeling. I remember the most inane stuff from my childhood simply because I was embarrassed at the time. I do not always remember clearly the facts of a situation, but I remember how I reacted and internalized emotionally my side of things. Neptune conj sun definitely helps with my little protective emotional worlds.
