Most of the time, I'm already ready to "run" or have some kind of back up plan to get me out if things don't work.

But when I'm in a situation where there is no risk, no reward. I'm not afraid to be as described, if things don't pan out.....who cares I didn't have much invested in the first place or have much of an expectation.

So you'll get standoffish because that person is the prize and you'll want to "protect your investment".

Otherwise, if you don't care your not afraid of loosing that person.

The only thing I'd add is: If I get a sense he's attracted to me, I'll be standoffish then too. I don't want to hurt or be hurt. The key is a lack of investment on both sides. When that's true, I see it as casual fun. No harm. Now, I'm just talking about casual flirting not being promiscuous.

There are two exceptions to this. I've had two male friends who I knew were into me, but our relationship was so easy that I would have slept with them. I don't really know what to make of it!! It was fun, flirty, and light. There was no pressure; they were patient with me, accepting. I think I misunderstood it as a lack of investment, but they were both genuinely good guys. They were respectful, and caring; I just trusted them. I never felt defensive (or the need to be defensive) or threatened. In hindsight, I prolly should've married one of them. Stupid, young girl!

I don't know if I quite relate to this exactly. I do often seem flirtatious with guys I'm not interested in. With guys I do like, I'm much more shy and hesitant, but my flirtiness still manages to come through. It's hard for me to hide those particular feelings.

I feel my Venus in Aries (sextiles my mars) may contribute to that.
