I watched this tv movie last night about the famous 1996 Mt. Everest mountain climbing disaster that claimed eight lives (also did a presentation on the book version a few years back in high school). I became interested in what astrological placements would make someone interested in climbing and also unlikely to die climbing. I'm a Taurus sun who is Earth dominant followed closely by Water and has little Air in her chart so I feel I'm too cautious to ever try something as risky as mountain climbing and my lack of Air and abundance of Earth and Water make it likely I'd also be too emotional as well.

A Cap Sun because the "hard way up is the ONLY way up" OR

A Pisces Sun because "that must surely be the way to The Everlasting Union"

Both of them will reach top and remain disappointed..

I don't know if that's possible. An exceptional climber died a few months ago. She used to work on a site that I was a part of, and I only knew her vaguely. I learned all of this new stuff about her, after she died, in a climbing accident. How she was a cancer survivor as a kid, and graduated *really* early from college.

Cancer shows up often in these charts, maybe it's the caring for fellow climbers, or emotional reflexes

Leo for wanting the achievement and fame

Virgo for precision work, taking risks seriously, staying in good health

Jupiter for luck and adventuring

---

Examples:

1) Sir Edmund Hillary is a Cancer sun conjunct Jupiter, Cancer Mars-Pluto, Leo stellium, Virgo Venus. http://www.astrotheme.com/astrology/Edmund_Hillary

2) Tenzing Norgay was probably a Cancer moon, which may have been conjunct Cancer Neptune and early Leo Jupiter; also Leo Mars; Virgo SN.

3) Reinhold Messner is Cancer rising; Leo Pluto; Virgo sun, moon, Jupiter, and Mercury.

4) Peter Habeler has a Cancer-Leo cusp sun, Cancer Mercury and Jupiter; Leo Mars and Pluto; Virgo Neptune.

5) Junko Tabei has Leo Pluto, with her sun, Mercury, Venus, and Neptune tightly conjunct on the Virgo-Libra cusp, opposing Aries Jupiter.

---

Heavy Scorpio might also make a good climber. Yvon Chouinard has a Scorpio sun-Mercury-NN squaring Jupiter.

Other things could make a good climber, this is just what stood out for me as I researched it.

My husband was a good climber (probably still would be, if he did it) with Cancer ASC, four Leo planets, three Virgo planets, Scorpio NN.

Faith: Interesting about Cancer. I'm Cancer rising with a Capricorn and Earth/Water dominant chart and Taurus sun, but I'm afraid of taking risks lol.
