I have mars less than a degree from asc. on the 12th house side.

I've read on sites and from others, including professional astrologers that it functions in both houses, which I kind of tend to agree with.
That the native feels that it's hidden but that is not hidden to others.

What's your thoughts?

What is your experience either if you have that in your chart or know others who do?

I know several will want to draw fine lines in the sand and say, "12th is 12th and 1st is 1st."
I don't believe astrology to be that way.

no, its the 1st house, for sure, in your case.

I have Sun and South node on my DSC, right on it. I dont know what to make of it but I have been in relationships ever since I started dating at 18.. never a day as a single. +

I have the same deal with Uranus conjunct my ascendant. I'm too tired to really think about this, but Uranus is 2 degrees away from my ascendant, in the 12th house.

It kind of reminds me of when I forget that I have an accent. I've lived here for so long, and am usually around people who are used to it, so there's rarely any commenting on it. I then get out in public - like last night, when a woman heard me exclaiming to dad, that I should have bought something at the health food store. This place has moved everything around, so they're having to help people find the new location. As we walked, she asked about my accent. Something I rarely think about (Uranus/accent) is something that people notice right away. After a funeral the other day, an extended family member just came out with, "I can hear the English accent coming through."

For me I feel that it's "in-between". It's not out there for everyone to see, but it's not tucked away in a deep corner either.

I have venus in the 12th house conj ascendant. My parents have 1st house venus conj ascendant. My venus is like "I want to go out, but I'm gonna go out at night, hide in the shadow". My parents, they lounge all over the place and display their venus for all to see. I like a bit of mystery, they believe in dousing others with a healthy dose of venus and knock them clean out.

My 3rd house Cancer Sun is a few degrees before the 4th house/IC, and from what I have observed, as a child especially, is that I take on some 4th house traits as well. I was always very close to my family and attracted to the idea of having a family of my own one day, but could also be a chatterbox like a 3rd house Sun too.

However, since my Sun is conjunct an angle, I see the traits of the next house more clearly. I would say that if a planet is a few degrees before a house that it would exhibit attributes from the next house, but even more so if it is right before an angle, as it would conjunct.

Another example is that my Mars is in the 1st house, but I wouldn't say it's as strong as someone who has it conjunct their Ascendant, even if it's in the 1st house. I can be energetic like a 1st house Mars, but it's not as apparent. Conjunction energies are incredibly strong, so I would say that your 12th house Mars does indeed show characteristics of a 1st house Mars and is probably even more powerful than someone who just has it in the 1st house like me.

Nope. With luminaries, the 1/2° disc with from Earth perspective allows for either body to be partly in one house and partly in another. I can make a mistake in rectification for a younger person in which a planet falls into the wrong house, but over time as more events take place there is a solid basis for testing it -- especially a 1st/not 1st situation.

A planet near the Asc functions upon your personality as if it is near it. If it is in the 12th house it functions from more a mental place, and in the case of Mars is tends to be more reactive the further it gets from the Asc, rather than proactive when in the 1st house(depending on masculine or feminine sign, etc).

Yes, when in the 12th house.

I don't believe astrology to be that way.

I do. We are working exactly with 'fine lines' in the sky. Yet, it is not so simple.

In order to draw lines anywhere, we have to know what is where. Otherwise, we should draw broad gray bands of gray area.... otherwise, what we're really saying is we are not really certain exactly where that line should be drawn. This is a formula for astrologers being able to have it both ways all the way around a chart, with various factors.

There is a big difference between being conjunct/parallel a cusp and being *in* that particular house. I've worked with countless charts that have a planet in say the 5th house, but is parallel the MC or Asc. That planet will never be 'in' the 1st or 10th houses, but its action upon the MC is unquestioned when you review the person's biography. Another example is where a planet shows as being in the 4th house of the flat wheel, but near the end conjunct the 5th widely, but is virtually exactly parallel the 5th cusp in declination.

The problem is we are still using these dark ages flat wheel charts that perpetuate a falsely framed is/isn't mentality based on two dimensions when in reality houses exist in voluminous 4D space. A planet can be nowhere near the flat wheel's boundaries for the 1st house, say if it is in the 6th. But it could still be exactly parallel the Asc/1st cusp.

So I'm both agreeing with you that planets are not trapped inside the apparent flat wheel boundaries for a house, and disagreeing that planets near a house cusp can or should be interpreted as if it were 'in' both.

"In" means in -- not out but still 'in'. A planet can act strongly upon a house cusp, but be nowhere near a place where it could be interpreted as 'in' it. This is not just semantics. The sky keeps things from being as cut-n-dried as the lines on a flat wheel chart suggest.

It is more kaleidoscopic than circular.
