I consider the Sun as the "authority figure" -either male or female.
I also don't make the distinction between Mom and Dad as either the 4th/10th. Some say the 4th is the father and 10th the mother,others reverse this.

Its hard to define these without writing an essay lol.
But often Pisces/Aqua/12th house Moon would point to circumstances pertaining to nurture/care being interrupted, inconsistent or just not possible.
With Aquarius especially,its more about the nurturing being interrupted or inconsistent. So the child learns to intellectualize feelings and detach from having to have others provide for them the nurturing they need.
They can counsel others beautifully. But they themselves are uncomfortable talking about their own feelings or being counselled by others.
With Moon in 12th or Pisces, the search for the "ideal" parental figure is often tied into emotional contentment.
With Moon in 12th, there could be a strong spiritual fulfillment towards finding the "spiritual mother" or the individual may consider Godhead to be feminine energy in principle.
Both Pisces and Moon in 12th may embark on being the ideal "nurturer" and demonstrate the qualities that they as children wanted from their parents ; unconditional love, patience, kindness,empathy, forgiveness, encouragement etc. This especially when Chiron is also in Pisces,in aspect to Neptune/Jupiter or in the 12th house
This expression is not limited to their children only but also those people they meet and befriend.
When we speak of the 8th and 12th house, we can speak of loss(8th); either literal or figurative. Or we can speak of feeling distant(12th);either literal/figurative.
When the Sun is in the 8th, the parental figure(most cases the father but not always) may suggest that either the father is too deep(8th) in the crevices of his mind to be present as a parent. And so it is as if they are not there as the child can't access them.
Or the parent passed away(8th) or died when the person was still young and left them the legacy of the child having to dig and find out what kind of person the parent was. Because essentially that research is keyed into their own identity(Sun).
When I think of Sun in 8th I think of the movie "Antwone Fisher" : Anger and abandonment issues tied to the parental figure. But also liberation through finding their own identity through them.
Sun in 8th house people are always coming into a new awareness of whom they are and are more sensitive to this than most people(barring Sun in 12th,Sun in 4th).
That is why people often say that Sun in 8th may sleep one person today and wake up a completely differing person the next day 
Sun in 12th also speaks of "parental absence". But this absence is usually because of the identity of the parental authority being shrouded in controversy or fog(12th).
It is not unusual for the paternity of the father to be hidden/unknown(12th), for the father to live in a foreign country(12th) or their whereabouts unknown,for the father to dwell in his own world-isolated from the child,for the father to come from a differing race than the mother's(12th) or to be someone mystical(12th); a movie star(12th), prophet/healer(12th) or even an alcoholic (12th).
I know someone with Sun in 12th whose Sun rules the 9th and whose father is in a mental asylum(12th) but was a revered teacher during his younger years(9th)
