(Inspired partly because of the Last Week Tonight season finale, and partly because 2016 seriously kicked my *ss.)

What on EARTH was going on in 2016 that ended up creating such an awful, awful year?

Especially once September hit, absolutely everyone I know was suddenly thrown into crisis. Personally, I found myself losing absolutely everything I had spent YEARS working for (my education, my career opportunities, my future plans, my friends, my independence and privacy, a very sudden and upsetting break-up on top of it all) and dealing with sudden health problems that caused mental health issues and emotional instability that prevented me from being able to cope with that amount of loss in such a short time-frame. September pushed me to my breaking-point and I had a complete nervous breakdown that went on for over a month. That has absolutely never happened to me before.

Part of the problem was that everyone I turned to for help was too stressed out from their own crises to do anything about it.

I've brought it up with several people I know across various ages and generations, and everyone agreed that 2016 SUCKED.

But WHY did 2016 suck so hard? Why were so many people thrown into crisis? Why were there so many losses this year, on both personal levels and grander scales? Why has there been such upsetting and destructive political upheaval in the western world (Brexit and the U.S. Election for example?)

This year was just too, too terrible for there not to be a reason.

it's mainly the saturn/neptune square. it's forcing a lot of people to let go of many hopes/dreams. no softness or fluff is accepted by the cruel saturn. others become merciless or ruthless in making their dreams come into reality so they make things hard for others who seem to not care.

I have noticed that the generation who have natal saturn/neptune square (neptune in scorpio and saturn in aquarius) have been a holes this year. they get this urge to destroy things for everyone else.

My 2016 has been like things you only see in movies. Deceit, lies, new beginnings, endings, sense of no direction, stories I couldn't even make up if high on LSD and STILL, I am struggling with the truth :-/

I met the man of my dreams (a few years ago) but the baggage he carried with him, and the baggage that has caused him suffering, is also now my suffering and my baggage.

His way of dealing with this was NOT my way, and I more or less had to slap him into changing direction and tactics. If anyone here has had ANY personal experience with a Taurus Moon you will know when I say this wasn't easy...at all! And man have we argued about it :-/

Now, nearing the end of 2016, things have unfolded in fashion that there is no way of turning back. As the loyal Cancer/Cap that I am, I will walk with him through what will be some really challenging times. I can look at him when he doesn't see me doing it and feel sad for him because I feel such a sense of Saturnine....responsibility..and I want him so badly to have his dream life!

Also, for those that believe, 2016 is a 9 year...don't forget!
As it happens, it's also my personal 9 year and I have waited for 2017 for a looong time.

Really? Things have been getting better for me
Finaly...I can move on..leave Ottawa and move back to Toronto. Ottawa has been quoted as the worst capital city of all the G7 nations.

But its probably because I've had to deal with BS and stupid people for the last 10yrs and I can finaly give that up.

I say this many times, I used to work in the public sector...I've been asked multiple times to be permenant.

The words "Budget Cuts" or "Project Termination" never crosses the minds of lazy, narowmined and incompetent goverment workers.

But...When it does and they lose there jobs its more devastating since its the last thing they consider.

With many countries struggling to grow there economies its much easier to sack an incomptent goverment worker then it is to raise taxes which is happening right now, can't belive people are so stupid not to see it.

Your awesome at astrology. that transit did pop up on astro.com. I can't believe you guessed it so well.

Sometimes it worries me....you've seen my chart and it matches your Gemini ex, less the time and place.

You know what your ex is like...so I guess you can get some idea what I'm like.

I wish I had time to figure you out...but you have a head start which is unfair!!, lol

I actually wanted to come back and add that you must know from where I am getting all these clues!

but yes, I sure do compare your situations with him when I see your posts (probably unconsciously) and they're just so freakishly similar sometimes

but no worries, I won't be coming here much anymore (too busy with work/studies), so you can start writing your heart out without being afraid of rainy's shadow

@charlie, have you been having some Uranus/ Pluto action on your Cancer/Cap planets this year by any chance?
What you've written here reminds me of 2015 for me when Uranus first started squaring my Moon. At least partially. Though then I didn't know much about astrology but ended my 9 year relationship with someone who I felt I cannot continue with, for several reasons. And it ended in a very unexpected Uranus-Moon way... Now I see it all as this was my only way to end this, Uranus gave me the tools, otherwise I'd have continued until no idea how long.
I'm not saying your situation is similar, just reminded me of this...

loool he WAS an engineer, but not in those fields

but jokes aside, it was cool meeting you. and I'm sure that different ACs give very different personalities. some believe that the AC is our true soul anyway

Yep, absolutely. Also Pluto in Capricorn is doing it's 'destroy the establishment' work. I've written about Saturn-Neptune in my recently blogpost (again!), as it's lingering as a psychological effect, plus the eclipse at the 9 Virgo point (on 1st September) compounded the emphasis of the Saturn-Neptune square which was exact at the time.

That eclipse was a major trigger, trying to go with the flow and *avoid* the media negativity is the best tact!

@diamondbabyAccording to Chaldean numerology, 2016 is the year of Mars.

I actually can believe this since 9 is the number that is associated with Mars.

Often when changes happen and there is turbulence, we label that as "bad". And I am not sure if that is entirely accurate.

2016 wasn't OUTSTANDING for me.But it certainly is getting me closer to whom I really am and so I am grateful for it

Uranus conjunct your Sun though? (presuming your name is your Sun degree natally) - that's going to over-ride everything and certainly you'll find your absolute truth. Uranus conjunct my Sun was when I took up astrology, it's a life changer!!

No, its my Juno degree. There is a Uranus transit conjunction to my Asc degree right now.

Uranus for me is always projecting rather than reflecting. Its about the possibilities unfolding and not whom you were.

So Uranus dwells not in the crevices of the mind to whom you feel you "ought" to be but can make you want to escape the clutches of anything that has already been conceptualized about whom you think you are.

It makes one more open to change, to experimentation and throwing oneself to something inspiring.Only to go back and see a part of you expanded.

You throw the rule book out; you dress different, you go to different places, you date different types of people etc.

All these things are usually stuff that you would not have ever considered before. But it helps you shake off the "idea" and possible limitation of creating an ego surrounding the things that you are about.

So it is very much like Jupiter- but very erratic and random. Which is why its termed the "crazy" planet.

I always feel kind of bad when people bring up the "2016 has sucked so much" issue because, personally, it hasn't been that bad for me.

I feel like, on a strictly personal level, it's been one of my best years ever. Not without struggle or disappointment. But, I have grown a lot this year.

I think, however, on a transpersonal and worldly level, the year has been absolutely ridiculous. So much tragedy and so many outrageous things have occurred this year, just on a global scale.

Consider the fact that both Chiron and Neptune are transiting Pisces. The North Node has been in Virgo all year. For the first half of the year, Chiron was on the South Node and now Neptune is on the South Node.

I think the sadness of the world has been getting to a lot of people throughout the year. If it's been really manifesting on a personal level, it may be a sign that the person has a lot of problems to work on but just doesn't know how to improve them exactly, a la Virgo. It is also a sign that the pain of other people is bleeding into their own life, reflecting the deep empathy that can sometimes be counterproductive when the South Node is in Pisces and that can hold a person back.

With the transiting conjunctions to the Pisces South Node, it has felt very tempting for people to sink into despair. Maybe, on some collective level, every horrible thing that has happened has been really magnified in the collective unconscious (something that Pisces rules). So, it feels like living out a nightmare that you will soon become a victim of.

Maybe the fact that the Virgo North Node has been conjunct my Virgo stellium (first Venus and now Mercury/Mars) all year has kept me pretty forward-moving, even in the face of the awful things that are happening or have happened in the world. (The Pulse shooting, for example, is one of the things that affected me in a deeply personal way). I wonder if other people with Virgo planets have felt the same? Also, with Saturn and Neptune in the 12th, I'm very used to acknowledging the sadness and feeling of doom that comes equipped with life. So, maybe, it doesn't keep me down as much.

Numerology-wise, this year is a 9 year (which, edit, I now see a few people pointed out). It's a year of change and preparation for a new cycle. So, a lot of things have had to break down in order to begin again (at least, that's what I know from my limited knowledge of numerology).

Every year there will be a portion of the population who will have a very hard year given there are 7 billion people in the world.

This year was a year for me about reaching my dreams and building a new life for myself in more solid foundations. It has required a lot of risks and hard work and some pain but it has well been worth it. I would describe this year as a year of accomplishments and adventure.

Politically is has been a horrible year for globalists but a great year for the people who have voted in manner to take their power back (Brexit and US election) but if you are communist who wants one world government you won't see it that way. A lot of people are waking up to the illusions of the media and that is why the US election and Brexit played out the way it did.

Gritting teeth, because I can't agree to disagree on the political post above. Trump is something else.

It was the worst year yet for me. I'm thinking about legally changing my name to Eeyore.

I lost my 23 yr old brother, my 3 yr old niece and my husband lost his job. My mom had a stroke, I just found out a friend has cancer, and my favorite aunt is close to losing her business. The pulse tragedy happened in my hometown, affecting a few friends of mine.

The only good thing was the birth of my daughter.

I will be saying goodbye to 2016 without looking back. Definitely think it has to do with Neptune, which is also squaring my natal Saturn.
