1)Look at your 5 personal planets: Sun, Moon, Mercury, Mars and Venus. Check the signs and let me know if you find the houses associated with those signs important to you in relationships with people.

Example:
I have my personal planets in these signs: Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces, Sagittarius. So I check if it happens often that people cast their planets in my 10th, 11th, 12th and 9th houses.

2) Here's what I found. These houses above are no more important than other ones. The houses that do matter for me are those that hold the signs above. So my Capricorn is in my 3rd and 4th house. Sagittarius - 2nd and 3rd house, Aquarius - 4th and 5th house, Pisces - 5th and 6th house. Now this might look like too many houses - 5 houses! but bear in mind that I took into account all 5 personal planets. You can give more weight to certain planets and very little weight to others. All depends on your chart.

I couldn't understand why 6H is so important to me, so many people cast their Pisces planets there (Pisces is on the cusp of my 5H but also half of the sign intercepted in 6H). Very often it really doesn't matter if that other person's planet conjuncts one of yours or not. When it's in the same sign, the connection is established. So it's actually More about the signs than houses. Sagittarius takes only 5 degrees of my 2H so even though I said that 2H is important to me, it is only important if somebody's planet is in one of those 5 degrees. SO much less weight to 2H now.

What's been more true for you? 1 or 2? Of course there are so many more pieces to the puzzle of relating, like relationship houses, houses that are important because they favour your natal aspects, angles significance etc etc. but this is maybe one of them pieces too.

That's interesting..

Not sure if my example counts very much in this case, since all my personal planets are packed in two houses (with the exception of the moon).
Those are the 7th & 8th.

They have mutual receptivity - in that, the ruler of the 7th is in the 8th & ruler of the 8th is in the 7th.
So that theme becomes more pronounced..

One exception is - I prefer people's planets falling in the house ruled by the moon (Cancer house) rather than the house which contains my moon (12th). This might be because I have a widish moon conjunct Asc perhaps? Or Jupiter conj Venus widely conjunct Dsc -- having fun is an important part of relating (and moon rules the 5th in my chart).

i.e., Acc to your options - I'd say option #2 applies to me, for the most part.

My natal T-square seems to matter a lot in relationships.

Mars is in the 6th conjunct the 7th. I like Libras who are conjunct my Mars-especially when its Sun/Venus/Mars.

Venus is also in the 7th

Mercury is in the 9th conjunct the 10th(6 degrees)- Capricorns that conjunct my Mercury and oppose my Moon create a ying/yang attraction. But it rarely works out.

Saturn is in the 7th

Cancers that conjunct my Moon in 3rd(arching to conjunct my IC by 4 degrees) are intense. If its Mars/Sun in Cancer especially- its very HOT!!

Moon trine Venus(ruler of the 7th).

I can't leave Juno out. Because if there is a Moon conjunction to Juno in Aries -sparks fly. And this attraction together with Libra is probably the most obvious. But it only seems to work most fiercely with the Moon

In my chart Moon trine Venus, Moon oppose Mercury and Saturn sextiles Mercury.

Juno square Moon, square Mercury, oppose Mars.
