Do you agree that your quincunxes do that to you?

"Carl Tobey proved that the quincunx is not just an adjustment aspect but the aspect that causes mental weakness and lack of positive spirit."

Mental weakness? No.

Not going to comment on the link being about sociopaths, except that I don't think there is a connection between the two there. I think it's weak of any astrologer to try to pin something like that on one or two aspects, usually one they have a bias against.

Quincunx may make for more awkwardness, but that usually isn't solely on the person owning the aspect, and I think it actually points to mental strength in a way, in that they keep going anyway. Keep trying.

I used to have a positive spirit. Life can really kick it out of you.

Wait, that's IQ? From here? Sorry, I still think that Carl Tobey needs to take a seat, and rethink his conclusions.

Lawdy, I hope not. I have three yods; therefore, six quincunxes. I am the opposite of a sociopath.

I disagree. My quincunxes do not make me mentally weak at all nor am I mentally weak to begin with. The lack of positive spirit, however, I can't deny, but I consider myself a realist. It's not worth being positive to the detriment of seeing your mistakes and the things you've done wrong. Life is not always going to be positive. On the other hand, it's not always negative either. However, my lack of positive spirit is more of a subjective opinion than a statement of fact.

This kind of logic is deeply flawed. Quincunxes or any other astrological aspect cannot indicate with complete certainty what will happen. There is room for human error when it comes to interpretation and not everyone is going to experience the same aspects the same way.

my closest aspect to a quincunx is 147 degree venus jup.

it's almost a bi-quintile as well. (144).

Absolutely not. I don't know how Carl Payne Tobey would personally represent his work on the subject, but in no way can I agree with that quote from that anonymous message board poster. Notice they leaned heavily on asteroids and examples of human evil (Denis Rader, the BTK killer). Amateur stuff in my opinion.

First, specific astrological aspects do not 'cause' any particular outcome, but are setups of energy that can be used constructively or not. They are just one part of an overall astrological influence.

Secondly, the quincunx is considered a major aspect by many of us, but is not a strong driving aspect like some conjunctions/parallels or like squares. Its interpretation as with all aspects, depends on what planets are involved. That is the most important factor.

Interpretation always requires we looked at the planets involved first. No aspect, not a quincunx or a square or anything else can change Jupiter's expansive benefic nature to something detrimental or negative merely by the angle of its relationship to another planet. That is a misconception frequently seen represented in this forum and many others by those under-schooled in aspect dynamics. I know that might step on some toes, but some students need to study harder before applying such simple cookie-cutter interpretations to anyone with a chart.

People come to astrology with expectations of cosmic connection and a more objective, bigger perspective on their lives. They deserve better than such over-simplifications.

Let's look at the quincunx ...

Against the 360° circle starting from the horizon east point (Asc), it represents the mid-point between the comfortably flowing trine and the zenith of the opposition. It can be seen as an angular vehicle for taking the particular planets' relations out of comfort zone of ease and into full polar outward expression. It is an aspect I sometimes describe as an 'awkward' relationship between the two in which the outer planet is generally pressing an issue of personal development.

You could look at it as a driver's course when taking the off ramp from the highway to change direction. In a sense it is a direction changer, but not in the polar way of reversign 180°, but making an *adjustment* of the steering wheel.

If that slight turn of the wheel is made one's destination changes. The purpose is to end up at a better destination evolutionarily / spiritually speaking.

There is no evolutionary purpose to be had in 'mental weakness and lack of positive spirit.' All aspects have a constructive dynamic that can be utilized and an inherent purpose found in the choice of the soul whose chart is being considered.

This is found along with other aspect descriptions at my Astrological Aspects page.

In my progressed chart are two and soon three yods in a mystic rectangle and i definitely feel off-course since 2014 or so. But seeing these patterns still makes me think that it is part of the "script".

I have quite a few quincunxes and I can see why some people would seem to lack in positive spirit. It takes long time to understand it, to work on it, and to finally use it to your advantage. Lots of trial and error and if the native is mentally weak to begin with, he/she might feel mentally exhausted, lost, and lose positiveness about life.

By the way: I have Moon/Venus/SN inconjunct Uranus/ascendant. Also Saturn inconjunct Neptune.

Saturn I see as counterbalancing Neptune. I used to be an artist, but I have always been wary of gurus. Of anyone telling people that something is absolute, because they say so.

As for the Moon/Venus - I don't know. I've had my heart broken over and over, more by people who were supposed to be friends, and even a few family members, than men (although they factor in, too). I woke up today feeling both peaceful, and very lonely. Going back over things that happened, as I always do. I couldn't control the actions of others, tried to figure out how to stop what was happening, and sort things out for everyone involved - they chose not to. That isn't the result of my Moon/Venus inconjunct Uranus/ascendant. It's people with their own personalities and flaws, their own assumptions, addictions, and so on.

Just to be clear, the article doesn't insinuate that quincunxes have anything to do with sociopathy. And, I do wonder if by "weakness," they meant "fatigue."

My only qx is between Pluto and my Mercury/Jupiter conjunction in Pisces... so I'm not one to judge about fatigue and lack of positive spirit because that's already an exhausting connection that allows you to see negative all day long.

Thanks for all the feedback.

I know 3 people who are healers who have Venus quincunx Jupiter in their birth charts.

Person A - woman, Naturopath. Mental weakness? No. An ND has the equivalent of a PhD in natural medicine. Lack of positive spirit? No, she's one of the kindest, sweetest, most helpful people I know.

Person B - woman, former ER nurse. Mental weakness? No. Very determined, takes care of a child with cerebral palsy. Told me she knew all during the time she was working in the ER that should could heal those people. Eventually got trained by Dr Eric Pearl to do Reconnective Healing and brought me out of the deepest slump of my life.

Person C - me, male. Mental weakness? Do I even have to answer that? Lack of positive spirit? At times, but it is certainly not from Venus quincunx Jupiter in my birth chart. Other times I am the most optimistic person of all those I know.

Show me the book and the research material where Carl Payne Tobey demonstrates that all quincuxes equate to mental weakness and lack of positive spirit. Show me where he writes that in his own words. I look at this as rumor-based astrology when a student distills an author's opinions to such summaries.

Personally I understand the quincunx well enough I don't need to consult even Tobey's opinion. This claimed interpretation of all quincunxes is a generalization that over-specifies.

You can't know how to interpret any aspect until you know what planets are involved.
