I want to learn this for myself how do you figure out if the orb is too wide?Like 4°55'44" S 4°12'45" S IP: Logged |

1 degree = 60 minutes4.55 minus 4.13 (rounded from 12degrees 12minutes 45seconds) = 0.42. That's the orb. In other words, if you add 0.42 to 4.13 then you will have an exact conjunction by longitude 4.55 (parallel because they're both S). Correct me if I'm wrong anyone please. IP: Logged |

Thanks so basically I would read parallels like conjunctions?

@Kannon is the man when it comes to declinations (the latitudinal (?) co-ordinates that create the parallel and contra-parallel aspects). He posted something the other day about orbs and when to use different orbs the other day - I can't remember which thread though, sorry! I always use the additional tables on astro.com to get the declinations - but I tried to work out a midpoint declination and my head practically exploded... anyone who can explain that one deserves a medal! @CapriciousCapricorn What I posted is from a composite chart. So would this me that this person and I have Moon conjunct Saturn in composite? She and I have been friends since childhood. So maybe this explains why.IP: Logged |

Hi CoV - from my understanding, parallels have a similar energy as a conjunction, but perhaps without some of the intensity. Some people will have 'normal' aspects as well as parallel/contraparallel aspects between the same planets. Some will have only parallel/contra-parallel, others will have only regular aspects, if that makes sense? So parallels aren't interchangeable with conjunctions, but do offer a very similar flavour, albeit with different nuances. I'm sure Kannon will have some better insight to add!

I understand so the parallels are still actually felt? But just aren't as strong as conjunctions. IP: Logged |

4°55' S [minus] 4°12' S = 43', well within orb for any parallel aspect. quote: Originally posted by CapriciousCapricorn: [B]1 degree = 60 minutes4.55 minus 4.13 (rounded from 12degrees 12minutes 45seconds) = 0.42. Correct. quote: Originally posted by ChildofVenus: I understand so the parallels are still actually felt? But just aren't as strong as conjunctions.
Yes, they are felt, and are quite active aspects just as strong and influential as longitude conjunctions.

I think many people doubt the declinations. As there is so little said about them. That is why questions of "is it like a conjunction?" or "how effective is it really?" will always pop up.I myself have a couple Sun 23.16 S Mercury 22.52 S Jupiter 22.58 S Neptune 22.16 S True Node 22.47 N Uranus 21.58 S MC 21.37 S In addition Sun,Merc,Jupiter are parallel. All contra parallel the True Node. Uranus-Mercury-Neptune and Jupiter are parrallel. Uranus contra parallel True Node. Uranus-Neptune parallel Mc. Sun parallel the 9th house cusp(23.3) Saturn(13.25) parallel the 11th house cusp(13.35) I think the more you use them, the more inclusive of them u will be. I first used them to understand the relationship between stellium planet(not in conjunction). And was surprised to find additional aspects between planets i had not considered. I use tight orbs of 1 degree at most for all. And they are legitimate aspects. Not "less" than the conjunction/opp.
