I'm really curious as to what kind of astrology books are interested in reading. What are the types of topics within astrology that people are most interested in learning about? For example how the planets work in relation to love and relationships, how the planets work in each sign/house, etc.. what are y'all interested in learning about right now?

2 things.

Dominant sign. Dominant Planetery energy in you.

That's about it. Very interesting to me.

alludeu,

I'm forever interested in all things synastry. I also wish there was a good book about aspects in natal and/or synastry but specifically in signs! For example, Moon conjunct Venus in Aquarius (sign tied into interpretation of the aspect).

Maybe we should create a thread about books, specifically NEW books worth reading. People might have some good recommendations.

Declinations, but there is very little material on it. So I have to do my own research. Declinations are the most overlooked and under-utilized area of astrology, and very much worth the time of any sincere student.

Declinations are not just the parallel and contra-parallel aspects, but includes house cusps. This has allowed me to put house systems to the test in ways other astrologers just haven't.

The Ascendant/b] and rising sign and their relation to personality/physicality; interested in what some overlooked astrologers like John Willner have to say about it.

Rectification/b], because I intend to master it.

Internal chart metrics, which is a term I coined to describe culminating progressed aspects that can nail down a chart rectification. Again, not much material on this, so I have to do my own research and write about it here and there on my blog.

I'm very interested in the way astrology meshes with other areas of metaphysics like Near Death Experiences. It is my opinion that you can't really start to understand core truths about astrology until you listen to what people are saying about the death process, which is like the birth process in reverse. It helps me keep a larger perspective on natal astrology, rectification, etc.

Because of that I am now also interested in sacred geometry and how this might fit in with the descent of the soul into matter (birth or incarnation process). The descent of the soul into matter was a hermetic concept from centuries ago that I think can be given form through mathematical structure. I think it may involve the mathematics of the Fibonacci sequence. No writing on that -- that I am aware of. But hey -- if you come across something like that, please, let me know: kannonmcafee[at]gmail[dot]com.

Edgar Cayce on astrology. That can be a lifelong study. Cayce's trance readings referring to planetary sojourns between lives reveals astrology as inter-dimensional, not a phenomenon that began for you with your 'first breath'. You do have to be willing to wade through some arcane language in the Cayce readings and truly concentrate and study it, however. And get help from authors like John Willner who wrote Astrological Revelations.

Still very much interested in what Robert Hand writes even if I don't always agree. He is an absolute giant in modern astrology and far more important a thinker than say Alan Leo. Hand's [i]Planets in Transit is a classic work that will always be in my collection.

NOT interested in:

- Columns in periodicals referred to as astrology or 'horoscopes' (like Rob Brezny, nice guy, decent writer, and I like him - not astrology).

- Anything that reeks of pop astrology. Linda Goodman is the only exception to this, because she is the only such author who writes well and serves as a really good introduction to sign-based astrology. If you learn from those sources you'll stay stuck at an intermediate level at best.

- Authors that try to rewrite rulerships by inserting asteroids (ala Zipporah Dobyns).

- Charting methods that don't line up with how the Earth rotates or the planets move. Believe me, there's a lot of that.

- Political astrology of any kind.

Students:

Don't assume that reading tons of material on astrological topics will necessarily bring greater insights. There is a difference between ingesting lots of concepts and terms passed around and real understanding of what goes on astrologically.

IF you are a sincere and dedicated student what is important is studying the basics until you go beyond keywords to a well-rounded understanding of:
1.) Planets
2.) Declinations
3.) Signs
4.) House systems
... but not taking anything as literal gospel truth. Put every bit of it to the test rather than letting confirmation bias keep those bits as articles of faith.

Most of the giants I've learned from have flaws in their thinking and I could debate them well on those particulars. You'll never find any source or teacher that is 100% right.

PS - I like how an Australian says "y'all" here, but a guy who spent his first four decades in Texas has to put it in quotes and won't say the word. :P
