So a lot of what I've noticed about astrology in practice is a lot different than what I've been reading in theory on these forums and the books. Here are some observations:Lets start with the most controversial:
1. The Ascendant. I think the place of birth means more than the time. I've started putting the time for everyone to 12 pm noon and that has been the most accurate. With this method people that I've guessed to be a sign because they give off the energy so strongly - that's actually their ascendant. Moving forward with it -It's been the most accurate for predictions and the most accurate for looking at behaviour.
I know what you're thinking - so everyone born on the same day, 12 pm, same place's personality is the same?
No. I have friends who are triplets. They couldn't be more different - and yet they all personify their sun, moon and ascendant perfectly.
One definitely is a cancer ascendant because she has the classic defensive shell, one sister looks like the Cancer Asc and the other sister is more stereotypical soft emotional cancer ascendant.
All are Taurus moon, one acts like it through her tastes in clothing and career, the other in the drive for security, the other unfortunately in terms of health problems.
They're all Aries Sun but it again manifests in different ways. One looks like a classic Aries, the other a classic Taurus, and the other classic cancer. Very interesting.
2. Keep in mind the 4th house. For example, a Neptune in the 4th house may mean a rich imagination in childhood, a family of musicians and artists, or alcoholism. The orbs don't matter too much I've found - looking at the family member's charts count to see for example whether the child will have the alcoholic parent or the musician matter more. Whatever the manifestation that will affect the family dynamics - especially the role the child plays in the family which affects how they personify their chart. All 3 sisters had a different role in the family despite being triplets and that had a lasting effect. It's almost like you can't look at just the person's chart alone, you have to ask for their parent's details too.
3. In practice I've found the Sun to be less significant. The Ascendant I have found to show how the person goes through life, their instinctual behaviour, the moon is the reason that they do what they do. The sun turns out to be how the Ascendant and the Moon gets reconciled and joined together. Psychology wise - the Ascendant is the Self we're born with, Moon is what we strive and aim for and the Sun, therefore, is the Ego that is developed to attain what the Moon whats. So looking at the Sun without the Moon is useless. You won't figure out why a person does what they do unless you look at the Moon - the why. So I don't really bother with the Sun unless it's to fill in the blanks. I'm straight to the Moon and the Ascendant.
4. Don't ignore the 12th house. I take the Ascendant sign and the 12th House sign as one. Virgo Ascendants with their stereotyped pickiness and criticism - why? Wel,l think about the subconscious 12 house - Leo. Their subconscious thinks they're entitled to be as they are because they believe themselves to be 'royal'/'special.' 1st house - conscious mind, 12th house - the subconscious mind. We know how powerful the subconscious can be. It's almost like the second moon.
5. I've found Leo Ascendants to be massive criers - Cancer 12th house.
6. All Aquarius Ascendants I've found to be massive in their career -Capricorn 12th house, why? Because career success leads to money and money, to many Aquarians they don't see it as a way to power. money to them is freedom - Aquarius.
7. Pay attention to planets out of bounds - they really manifest and parents - make sure it's channelled in a healthy way in kids or it can really spiral.
8. Intercepted signs and houses in Placidus are not voids. Articles make it seem like you were missing something in childhood or life or whatever. No - I found irl that Intercepted signs are signs where you have an excess of something. Duplicated is when there's not enough. This is because transits over those houses take longer - sometimes twice as long. You have twice as long to deal with that energy, twice as long to learn the lessons, twice as long to have it incorporated into your personality and life. Once the person gets into their 20s the intercepted signs and houses have a very strong manifestation. It becomes palpable to the point where it can come off as strong as the Ascendant.
9. I've noticed those in healthcare that don't have the classic stereotyped house or sign placements will have intercepted 12/6th houses. They'll dedicate their whole lives and define their personality by intercepted signs and houses.
10. Want to be more attractive - dress and act like your descendant. If you're a Cancer Asc - you're looking for a Cap sort of guy. Dress and act like a Cap Asc. That will get the initial attraction because you look like what they're looking for and you're looking for them. Then over the course of the date or so on the Cancer Asc will come out on its own to balance things out.
11. Relocation chart are for real. Pay attention to them, I've found they kick in at about 1 year give or take a few months. Especially if you lived through some crucial years in another country. I'm not talking like 6 months study abroad, i'm talking like I lived half my life in a country that put my Ascendant opposite what it is. It's Aries Asc but where I moved to I had a Libra Asc. My Libra chart is honestly imo as valid as my Aries chart. Half my life! During the years when my personality was developing! the 4th house checks out for both! So pay attention to those many many years in another country. It should be taken into consideration.
