Manipulative? possibly depending on sign and aspects. On it's own Mercury/8th would be a digger, asking uncomfortable questions in their quest to understand. Investigative.------------------ "To be interesting, be interested"....Dale Carnegie IP: Logged |

Mercury in Gemini in the 8th, conjunct the vertex, final depositor, and apex of a tight T square here.First, define "manipulation". Lies, unfair use of emotions, etc we can agree on. But how about salesmanship? Persuasive speech? Logic? Leadership? Motivational speaking? The 8th house is the house of intimacy. Mercury in the 8th gives you the power to touch others intimately with your words, even your thoughts. The mission of 8th house is power. A lesser evolved 8th house may be tempted to use that power for short term gain, or control over others for the sake of self gratification. But, like our Scorpio cousins, we learn that those misuses often rebound to smack us in the teeth. Honesty, trust, service to another, these are the currency of the 8th house, our stock in trade. Guidance and stewardship replace manipulation for the higher evolution of 8th house natives. IP: Logged |

My Prog Merc is in the 8th (along with my Prog Sun and Mars)... since my Prog Sun (and especially since my Prog Merc) went into my 8th... I have been digging. People get ****** at me b/c I catch them in lies, call them out on it, and expect me to be ok it with... but, I'm not. I have gotten a lot better at understand human psychology/trauma and triggers during this time, too... when someone has a breakdown or we have a confrontation I try to talk to them about what's going on (or the same when I have a breakdown) and people aren't really comfortable with it... most people don't like talking about their triggers/projections into relationships... which it seems like I see a lot of it now to the point I have a couple people pushing me to get into trauma counseling (to help others) or to go to school for it... (but the only reason why I know a lot of it is because when my Prog Sun went into the 8th in 2008 I have been in therapy most of the time since then trying to heal myself...) IP: Logged |

I wholeheartedly agree. And even music, which we all love so much, "manipulates" us. Pulls our heartstrings, makes us feel, enjoy it, or lament with the melody and singer. With that said, it depends on the intent behind the manipulation. Historically, manipulation leaves a bad taste in ones mouth, but it is naturally something we all do to some degree or another. Mercury/Aries conjunct Jupiter. This isn't really a manipulative sign/aspect. It is a quick, decisive, and to the point Mercury and Jupiter makes it smart.

Merc in Scorp in 8th. For most of my life I earned a living investigating one thing or another. I became a serious, full-time digger when I turned freelance writer. So Lala is right on in that regard. As for manipulation - if anything, people often times have tried to manipulate me. Employers would be at the top of the list, then girl friends, working associates and various free-loaders. Even rabid evangelists like to lurk around, wrongly believing they've found an easy convert. So apparently I come across as the opposite of manipulative - naive, malleable, innocent??? IP: Logged |

I am, I consider myself manipulative when it comes to feelings more than anything, and well my Mercury is in Cancer so maybe that explains, 8th house, though Gemini rules that house so sits in its house.IP: Logged |

Totally agree with you here. I'm an investigator, not a manipulator. Mercury in 8th house Taurus (Mercury is my Vedic chart ruler).
