Intelligence comes in many forms. Nobody is smarter than the other, intellect all comes from what you've taught your brain, your perspective of life and your passions.

Earthy Mercuries tend to see the world for how it is I've noticed. They are excellent partners for stability and practical matters. Being consistent is a great quality with them and they have great follow through. The downside to all this logical left brained thinking they might come off as cold to more spiritual and deep thinking people. Sometimes it can be impossible to talk to them about global issues and unconscious and subconscious matters. They don't seem to open to hearing out of the box thinking or ethereal things because it doesn't really fit their perspective, they'd rather keep it simple and technical.

Water Mercuries are very flexible and creative. They have a vast imagination and are extremely accepting to most ideas. It seems they can create things out of thin air and can completely be at one with their art. Full of emotion and intuition some of them can develop psychic abilities. They feel more than they think, which brings me to the fact they also can be sloppy, aloof, clingy and dependent. They're thoughts are so unique sometimes a lot of work and actual planning are needed. They can be indecisive but not on a social level. They value loyalty and will always listen.

Sounds like you have to see the exact sign, house Mercury is in, the co-signifer, and all the such to find those characteristics.

I must be a different type of Mercury in Cap because I am NOT all that technical or concerned with "what is".

I hated maths at school and barely tolerated science because i found them one dimensional and "flat".

I was the type to look up into the sky and wonder about the universe and my place in it. So esoterical studies of the writings of old(Cap) appealed to me-hence astrology.

Anyone who has read my responses to posts will know that I am no "one line" man. Pretty verbose, i can go on for long on a question posed. This is not Cap in its purest form as Cap is usually stoic and brief.

I do tend to think of things in a very thorough manner(including spritual ideas) But am weary of superstition and dogmas that have no basis on my subjective experience.

My interest in global issues is HUGE (Mercury,Jupiter, Sun and Neptune in 9th).But I am also averse to watching news on "how bad it is" as am more concerned about the bigger picture of "why?"

Newspapers speak of contextual "facts". And Gem/Virgo Mercury or Mercury in 6th/3rd could be all about the details of "now".

Mercury square Mars-outspoken
Mercury parallel Jupiter-verbose
Mercury in 9th conjunct Mc may operate from both houses ime.

And as far as water mercury is concerned, I haven't experienced the open-minded thing you speak of in most. Even air sign mercury can be pretty bland and one dimensional in their views at times. Merely parroting others.

I don't know how many times my ideas have been thrown out as too "zany" by earth/water mercury alike. And yes earth mercury can be pretty "stick in mud" types. But not all.

I agree that house positions and mercury aspects count.

Astrology has its dignities. That includes the planet Mercury. Mercury is best in Air or Fire. A native born with Mercury in Earth or Water has a weakness in their mind and it will take a healing to remove it.

Usually when the planet progresses out of the water sign, they evolve out of that weakness.

As I have learned lately, the aspect to planet is much more potent and important then the sign itself.

Having Mars in aquarius vs Mars in aspect directly with Uranus for ex is much different.
In one hand mars is in the sign, in the other mars gets "electrified" by Uranus directly.

I have Taurus mercury, in some ways yes practical and a bit slow to process. In the other hand I have Uranus, Saturn , Sun and Neptune contacts. I identify very much with for ex as how a mercury pisces is described, and mercury aquarius etc.

I'm very visual and I have been a photographer for 6 years now, a neptune-mercury energy. Nature and animals are my fav motives (taurus energy).

I'm into astrology which shows one can process abstract information well, something earth signs may not be suited at according to the descriptions, maybe the Mercury uranus aspects etc.

So I guess if one has eart mercury and only "earth ruling planets" in aspect to it, that would make the mercury very earthy
