I'm trying to figure out how a person's style manifests, especially when I'm trying to figure someone else's (unknown) ascendant.I've concluded that style can come through the ascendant, midheaven, or planetary dominants. What is the best way to go about this? And what about how styles complement a person's appearance (especially when Asc./1st house) is involved? I've read posts from Mystic Medusa and AstroStyle blogs, but feel that something is missing... IP: Logged |

I think we reflect our style as wherever our chart ruler is and also through the MC and it's ruler. My chart ruler is in Capricorn and my MC ruler is in Aquarius. I have a very laidback but professional Saturnian style, but bc Neptune and Mercury are the planets I do tend to go a bit glamorous in my style sometimes, I like to stay up to date on latest fashions but not the ugly ones where everyone is wearing big clompy sneaker heels and ridiculous makeup. I like simple but elegant fashions. I don't have the money for that though, so typically I just wear jeans, shirts, and sneakers though. Can't be bothered. IP: Logged |

How about Venus? She projects our ideal woman.

That makes sense. Scorpio ASC, Virgo MC, with Venus conjunct MC. Dominant planet Moon, in Cap. I am simple and understated. I like plain, non-patterned things. Earthy and natural. I do not go for fashion trends, but for things that last forever. Classic. I do love black (thanks Scorpio rising). So how to work backwards is what you are looking for? Ok, my best friend is birth time unknown. She is very natural, wears blues and grays often. Always classic styles. Everything elegant. I see her mostly in earthy colors, like water- aqua, light blue, greens, and grays. I don't think I've ever seen her in bright reds, pinks or black. No patterns, nothing extreme. Her Venus is Taurus. I think her Cap Moon plays a dominant role, but I don't know how. Maybe it's first house? Health and wellness is a huge theme in her life, and education. So I lean towards some Virgo type stuff, but I really don't think she is Virgo rising. By the way she has nothing in Virgo at all. I think there are so many variables about how this could play out that it would be a challenging way to figure out ASC, but could work to narrow it down. IP: Logged |

I'm actually more focused on men's style, but I do see that my hypothesis of how people's style can come through with many planetary influences rings true.I find that the blog posts on using Ascendants to determine style are too simplistic, like what Star Style and Mystic Medusa show. Interesting on how the moon is involved in style. I find that to be a valid indicator. Star Style has blog posts about moons in different signs, but it shows more of how a person makes him/herself at home and how they decorate their space. Again, Star Style limiting to this kind of interpretation is an example of how that observation could be too simplistic. IP: Logged |

Do you like Vedic/Jyotish astrology? There is a youtuber by the name of Claire who has done extensive research on the different nakshatras of the zodiac and used it to interpret different beauty and public trends with each. All of her videos are very accurate. Not surprising, since Jyotish is typically very accurate, more so than I used to like to think. I think if you are concerned with fashion/style, you should definitely check her videos out! It's not an exact science of course, but it is all very interesting to look at regardless. She has a lot of good videos where she analyzes each nakshatra and their style so I can't link a specific one... Here is her channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCufS23zUqIK5jTazITwlaTw/videos Hope it helps you a bit more IP: Logged |

Yes, I like Vedic Astrology. I visited a site called Cosmetique Astrology to figure out ascendants and find it to be helpful. Currently, the site is under construction/revision.Speaking of which, I bought Vedic astrology book for Kindle called Your True Zodiac Sign. The author uses Niryana astrology (a branch of Vedic Astrology). His website and a test to determine your "True Zodiac" profile are found at: http://www.truezodiacsign.com/ IP: Logged |

Yes, Cosmetique Astrology is Claire! She has a YouTube channel where she goes further into depth on the style and images of the different nakshatras. She really is so good at spotting these things, when I first looked at her stuff I was shocked, all three of my nakshatras were so accurately described, style, personality, image, I felt like I was getting read like a book. I believe she said her site will get updated sometime by the end of the year because she and her partner are still writing up the ASC nakshatra pages. I would just read the nakshatra for my ASC on the moon pages though, it's still pretty accurate. The style of the sun nakshatra does not really match me, but the personality does. I think the moon and ASC nakshatra is more indicative of style (at least in my case). In western, it reflects my chart ruler and MC ruler for style.I have never heard of Niryana Vedic. I googled it and it says Niryana means "Death"?? I'll have to study up on this later. I might buy that book sometime. IP: Logged |

Fashion is always a fascinating topic. Sometimes I think astrology transits can affect a fashion phase in someone’s life too. What was going on during someone’s goth punk phase? When I had Saturn oppose my Venus, I went though a I look like I “gave up” phase. Once Saturn was in Libra that’s when I had to start dressing more business casual once I got a job in the schools. But before that job it was jeans sweat pants sport shorts and club clothes. Now I’m more at that place in my life where a lot of my clothes are good for days off and work.

I really feel like Saturn transits can have an influence. Big slow moving planets in general. Saturn kind of makes sense to me because Saturn is rules. We all have our own fashion rules and we all have rules we have to follow while still trying to find our way to express ourselves obeying the rules. I think back to how my style changes with Saturn transits. Saturn oppose Venus was a low point in my life. I did not look my best at all. I’ll leave it at that. Saturn in Libra no more spending money on jeans edgy shirts and club clothes. My style changed so fast “I had nothing to wear!” on my days off it seemed some days. 5 day work week. Having clothes for work is a higher priority. Saturn in Scorpio my 6th house. House of health taking care of ourselves I lost 20 pounds and had to purge a lot. Lots of shopping and being my weight at 17 but being comfortable in my skin this time. With Saturn in Sagittarius, Sagittarius has to do with other cultures belief costums outside my own. I had to tweak my work sense of style when I started a new job at an Islamic private school. Some looks that were okay at the private catholic school, will not fly at this Muslim school. Not even a centimeter of cleave can show. Knees are not for showing. Skirts, dresses, must be below the knees. The unspoken rule that your dress or skirt can be shorter if worn with leggings. Shirts must have sleeves. No professional tank top blouses. The four finger tank top rule was at my school growing up. Not here. If I wear that it’s now with a sweater with no buttons so I can show off the tank top with out showing off my arms. I also got into infinity scarves so that I don’t have to stop wearing my low cut shirts. The scarves have grown on me, I’ll wear them on my day off sometimes. Added lots of leggings to my wardrobe so I can still wear my shorter dresses and skirts. For me Saturn is the “you need to grow up now” with my fashion sense. Anyone else experience this? Based on what I've seen on other websites and books I have on the ascendant, it seems to me that the ascendant emphasizes on physical appearance or the general physique. Dominant planets, the IC, and MC can manifest in the overall fashion and the attitude of the person.IP: Logged |

I'm not sure my appearance can be described through my Ascendant or Midheaven. It's not even known to me if I possess that "intense stare" that people with Scorpio risings seem to be known for. The closest to any connection to my Ascendant in the way described in this thread and in general is my Sun being opposed by Pluto. Pluto is conjunct my Ascendant. However, my Sun is in 6th house and I feel like my Sun sign is pretty obvious given the Taurean stereotype for loving food. This is what happens when a child is not informed of how bad their eating habits are and they're allowed to keep eating whenever they want and to the extent they want. Fortunately, the information got to me in time to reverse my ways without significant consequences, but I'm not a child anymore. My eating habits as a kid have left their mark and people can probably see more Taurus in me than Scorpio.IP: Logged |

I've been getting braver about wearing leggings as pants lately. I've never felt comfortable when a shirt is above the butt. I love wearing then with shirts and dresses. But I've bought some good quality work out ones. Not all leggings are created equal. With the better quality leggings the shirt needs to at least cover more than half my bottom. It's low key, but it doesn't make you look like such a lazy bum like sweatpants. Could this be Jupiter transiting my 6 house making my style more active? Also ever since Neptune has been in Pisces I've been wearing dresses and skirts more frequently. Another thing that has been going on for a long time...I'm a free clothes magnet. How can I not take free clothes? And like most people, dressing trendy and hip does not pay the bills. Plus I'm in my late 20's now anyways. Some of its great and some of its like whatever this is something I would only wear at work. Though sometimes it gets a little out of hand and makes me feel like I have identity issues. I'm saving money on clothes and my weight has not changed dramatically since 2013. So with that and people giving me their hand me downs. I don't need anymore and no one lets me shop! (Well besides unmentionables these days) It's just not me at all to get rid of something cause it's so 3 yrs ago. Saving money and doing my part for the environment. Anyways I'm a Gemini Rising, Aries Sun house 11, Scorpio Moon h6, Venus Pisces h10, Aqua Mars H10 IP: Logged |

I just bought white work out leggings at target. I do shop there a lot just because I get a lot of gift cards to that place. I’m ready to wear my shorter dresses and skirts in the spring time! And maybe actually work out in them sometimes. IP: Logged |

Your style shows up the most in your Venus sign (with the aspects and the house of course), but its shown through your ascendant IP: Logged |
