I am the kind of astrologer who needs to get behind the eyes of the aspects. In other words, I am not really comfortable talking about something I have not experienced. One has to extrapolate because one cannot experience all signs and aspects. However, I am at my best when I can talk from my gut, not simply my intellect. I am a Cancer Moon. At heart, we are very “gut feeling” kind of people. With that being said, I think I have a “read” on the quincunx.

I am very close to someone with a quincunx Mars. I am a Cancer Mars. He is a Sagittarius Mars. At first, I thought that this was a positive aspect. Cancer Mars likes to stay bedridden. Sagittarius Mars loves to travel. I thought that Sagittarius Mars would help the Cancer Mars get out of her armchair and the Cancer Mars would tame a bit of the wanderlust of the Sagittarius Mars. Well, this did happen. So, in that sense, the quincunx is positive.

The quincuncx does force both people to change: push themselves out of comfortable patterns. However, it is not pleasant. The Cancer Mars is angry she cannot hide from the world world in her nest. The Sagittarius Mars is angry that he cannot exist on an perpetual cruise around the world. However, as I write this, I am still not certain about the nature of the quincunx aspect. Is it positive or is it negative? We all have to change. Most of us have to be forced to change. If you have a quincunx aspect with another person and it involves personal planets, you will be forced to change. Change or bust. Change or walk out the door. *Sigh* Over and out.

It depends on the planets involved. It also helps to see this as energy to be utilized through awareness -- not as categorically 'good' or 'bad'. The best way to get a feel for any aspect is to look at it in a natal chart.

I have Venus quincunx Jupiter in my birth chart. No aspect between benefics is a bad aspect. However, I have to be aware there can be too much of a good thing. Cake is good, of course, and so is ice cream. But eating them every day is unwise. With such a Venus-Jupiter aspect I have to watch my sweet tooth a bit and exercise discipline in that, occasionally cutting out sugar nearly entirely. That aspect is also a people-pleasing aspect that nudges the person towards kindness and to bending a bit to be helpful. It does not have the push of people-pleasing or indulgence behind it that a conjunction, square, or opposition.

The 150-degree aspect is interesting because it is the only 30° (major) aspect to be created by dividing the zodiac by a fractioned number, 2-2/5. That makes it a standout. These are lessons in balance. You can look at it as part way between an opposition and a trine. I sometimes think of it as energies a person can bend from imbalance into flowing expression.

It is normally considered a stressful aspect, but can be turned into a positive expression through self-awareness and learning. A keyword that has been used by Joan McEvers and Marion March (and other astrologers) is adjustment. Some adjustments are harder than others. Venus quincunx Jupiter is not as challenging to bring into balance as Venus quincunx Mars, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, or Pluto.

When the appropriate adjustments towards balance are not made, health issues or accidents can result, depending on what planets are involved. That is why I must watch my sweet tooth (with the Venus quincunx Jupiter aspect) and scale back any over-indulgence. Diabetes runs in my family and I don't want it. Accidents are often accompanied by at least one quincunx transit or progression involving Mars, Uranus, Jupiter, etc. I used an aspect of progressed Jupiter quincunx natal Asc to fine tune the rectification of the chart of Sir Patrick Moore for an event of food poisoning. Very often at death there is at least one quincunx by transit or progression involving planets like Saturn, Pluto, etc. You could think of that as the adjustment from the material to spiritual state of being.

I like how you frame it as an aspect that pushes both parties out of their comfort zone and focus on the potential for growth behind it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experience with this aspect.

My natal chart only has two quincunxes:
Mercury quincunx Pluto - orb under 1 degree
Chiron quincunx North Node - orb of 1 degree

I'm not aware of what the usual interpretation of this aspect is, but I have an idea of how the quincunx between my Chiron and North Node manifests. From what I can understand about it, my 2nd house North Node in Capricorn seems to be suggesting that my North Node lesson is to generate an income through the building of a successful career. The full interpretation I have for this aspect is that the building of a successful career to generate my income (North Node in Capricorn in 2nd house) through the use of my creativity (Chiron in Leo) is wounded specifically when it comes to publishing my creative writing (Chiron in 9th house). This would make sense. I think I'm afraid of so many people hating my work that I'm unable to be a successful writer. Obviously, this fear needs to daelt with. I'm not going to make it as a writer if I never overcome it. While I do want to generate an income from my writing, all I really want to do is share my work with the world and hopefully expose other people to the worlds that I love. Overall, the idea of having a successful career is both uncomfortable for me and what I want. I have to push myself to face what's making me uncomfortable to grow and obtain something I really desire.

I also have a quincunx between Mercury and Pluto. Based off a quick Google search, and from what I know about Pluto's obsessive nature, this aspect probably reflects my tendency to over-analyze. A lot. This is a problem I'm aware of and I'm trying to work on it, but it's really difficult when I'm hyperfocused on getting answers regarding a topic I'm obsessed with. Meanwhile, this aspect of my personality has driven a lot of people nuts. It may be that I need an outlet for this tendency by taking a crack at more complex questions or details instead of incredibly simple ones.

My chart ruler (Mercury) and my sun are both inconjunct/quincunx my ASC and I don't know how to say this is a positive aspect to say the least. It does push me in many ways, but not really in a way I would say leads to growth. It just seems to make life harder for me in these particular planetary attributes. For example, I want to be a writer but my chart ruler Mercury quincunx my ASC makes for a struggle. No matter how hard I try through reading more to further my vocabulary and such and writing more poems and short stories I just feel like I am going nowhere. Nothing ever really seems good enough. It might be because my Sun is also in there with the quincunx. I can't live up to my own standards, it makes me frustrated. I think the quincunx just makes you more aware of what you are and are not capable of as a person. That is typically the case with minor aspects, they show our talents and style (or lack thereof of both) whereas the major aspects show our major personality traits and the way they play out in our environment.

So in synastry I would think the quincunx can show where you two have a major imbalance, even more so that an opposition. It brings to light a major imbalance in values and how capable you are of dealing with those values. I suppose if you are willing you could try to use that as growth but personally I don't see how you could. In my opinion, it is not possible to change someone else's values unless they specifically want to. What is that saying? You can't change someone unless they want to change? You like to stay in your comfy nestled home and he like to travel to see the beauty of the world. It would be possible to find a common ground but only if they wanted to change. I think it is hard to change/find growth with the quincunx for this reason. With a square, you are both the same duality so even though you have differences you can still find a common ground to WANT to change on both sides. With the opposition, you are also of the same duality so you can use that common ground to make up for your differences to help each other grow. But the quincunx is weird. There is really nothing in common. It's like the semi-sextile but worse because they're not even near each other. You cannot force someone to change. They have to decide to and since there is no common ground, they are going to be stubborn about wanting to change.

To sum it up: The quincunx is saying you two can grow, but it will be stubborn growth and take forever (and ultimately end in frustration) since you have no basic common ground to start or finish on. Of course, check the rest of the synastry though...

I think that is the quincunx, summed up. Tried my best haha.

This is an aspect of awkwardness and a need for both parties to try and adjust to one another

Whether it is good or bad depends on other factors

I don't think that its a good aspect or bad aspect. Too temporary and fleeting to be judged

I think of it as a temporary and usually unavoidable situation. But one grins and bears it because of its necessity and rewards post it.

For example, a temporary living arrangement before moving to your own apartment.

That serves the purpose of shelter, but one cannot completely let go and just relax. One can only relax under their own roof.

Unless there are other more harmonious aspects. Its bound to cause the two people to grow apart because of its temporary alignment.

Its an "almost" aspect. Not good, not bad. Just not complete.

I had an exact inconjunct aspect with a Taurus in varsity. We also had Moon sextile Moon and Venus(his), conjunct Asc(me). As well as Mars trine Mars, Mars(his) opp Jupiter(mine).

We lost contact post varsity. But I do recall that our friendship started because of doing the same subjects. And our interactions didn't go beyond that.

We helped each other a lot. But it had little going for it beyond that and when I got my degree, we parted ways.

There was no bad blood. It served its purpose and left.

I think of a Q as part of a larger device used to direct energy. It cannot corral and redirect energy by itself IMO. It needs another one with the same apex. Then the Q can be a major device.

Locate an asteroid 60 degrees away. If you can't find one, it is likely there for another person, so that the combined energy can be corralled and redirected.

In regards to being a hard aspect, none are easy nor hard. They are neutral. Biases and choices can be hard. No planetary alignment has more power than the will in our soul.
