Welcome to my new blog series, Ode to the Queen of INSERT SIGN HERE, SHADE. I am starting with Aries ( the first sign of the zodiac, duh) This one is a no brainer. The elusive chanteuse herself, Mimi, aka big faced Mariah Carey (oh no, no, no, no, no shade).

Runner-Up: Aretha Franklin
Don't worry, before I get into the Queen of Aries Shade, I am going to mention the runner up, who is none other than Ms. Aretha Franklin. Old people throw the best shade and Aretha Franklin is no exception. Aretha's shade is A1 sauce, here's a link. Even so, Aretha's is not as entertaining as Mariah's shade. Here's why.

Aries shade is quick, directed, blunt, and straightforward (as straightforward as shade can be). It's not just about the sign but about the combination. Mariah Carey has a Taurus Ascendant (Venus rising), Mars in Taurus in the 1st House, Scorpio Moon, and Mercury in Aries the 12th House. All of these placements doesn't automatically make someone shady. Even so, the music industry is a bit fake aka a lot of **** goes down behind closed doors.

Fame and Celebritydom is a small "community" and stars can't burn bridges. Fame is ruled by Jupiter (Luck), Venus (Beauty) and Neptune (Illusion), and is these things are quite elusive. Here one moment (fame, fortune, youthful appearance, respect, etc.) gone the next. Ask MJ or Whitney about it. This means oftentimes they have to let out their anger, frustration and aggression in indirect, passive aggressive ways. MC is no exception.

Aries is a blunt, honest sign. However, when put in insincere, superficial settings with greedy media people that want to provoke you for some change, even an Aries will stoop to shade. Shade is a sophisticated, refined language that expresses honesty and anger in a passive-aggressive but light-hearted and highly entertaining matter. I previously mentioned that Mariah Carey has a Taurus Ascendant (Venus rising), Mars in Taurus in the 1st House, Scorpio Moon, and Mercury in Aries the 12th House. With these placements I see why she turns to shade. I am not 100% comfortable with Taurus rising for her, as astrotheme is not that reliable with popular celebrities rising signs. Even so, I am going to run with it. Taurus is ruled by Venus, and Venus is all about comfort and pleasure. Taurus just wants to eat, make his or her money and lounge somewhere. Venus ruling her first house Mariah has and wants to appear beautiful, pleasant, and mild mannered.

Even so, MC's Mars also in Taurus is in her 1st house, so she can behave in a rather forceful, competitive, and aggressive, matter. Taurus doesn't anger or provoke easily, but they are also not ***** babies. Top her Taurus energy with a sun in Aries, and you get someone that is stubborn, bold and isn't afraid of confrontation. Earth and fire energy prefer to keep it simple, meaning they will let you know if something is wrong or angered.

But Mariah Carey also has moon in uber emotional Scorpio. Moon rules emotions and Scorpio is very EMOTIONAL. But you can NEVER TELL. Water moons are indirect, and they response and communicate non-verbally. Scorpio moons are all about emotional honesty and integrity but they are afraid to show that. They prefer to be the strong silent types, while silently suffering. They are the warrior animals that when mortally wounded will hide deep in the forest and die all by themselves for fear of showing their vulnerability.

Scorpio moons don't like to show emotions, especially anger. Repressed emotions, fear of one's own vulnerability and emotional immaturity often leads to shade. Especially for an unevolved Scorpio moon. And Ms. Carey has shade for days. Especially in the entertainment business when appearance and connections is everything, Scorpio moon understands this very well. Change up their tactic and lets things out in the most calculated way, in this case the best and most effective method being shade.

Not only this, but Mariah Carey has Mercury in Aries the 12th House. This is very revealing to me. I feel Mercury in the 12th House (and also in the 8th House), acts very similar to natal mercury retrograde. The 12th and 8th Houses are water houses, ruled respectively by Pisces/Neptune and Scorpio/ Pluto. For Mariah Carey, her mercury those in Aries, also behaves in a Piscean/Neptunian matter.

The 12th House is a hidden house, and energy there is muted. People who have this placement can be seen as quieter, more introspective and nonverbal (very much like a natal mercury retrograde person). The only real difference is the mercury in the 12th house communication style is severely watered down in a sea of Neptunian mist.

A person mercury in the 12th house words are drown, mix up, confused, and they are trapped in an unreal fantasy world. Here Mariah Carey words often captured by the mercurial/Neptunian media and get lost in translation. Anyway this is getting too deep, too long, and too run-on sentency (by my standards anyway).
