From what I have always heard, the derived houses correlate like this:

1st House: You

2nd House: your money, all things material not a physical person

3rd House: your siblings

4th House: Your mother/your father

5th House: Your children (general), your children (blood/biological)

6th House: Your pets, your coworkers

7th House: any type of close relationship (love, work, family), your enemies, your frenemies, and your closest friends, the first marriage partner, the eldest sibling

8th House: any relationship that involves close intimate bonding and connection (sexual relationship, contracts,

9th House: your second marriage partner

10th House: your father/your mother

11th House: Your half-siblings, your step-siblings, your third marriage partner, your grandparents (general), your friends

12th House: your connection between yourself and to a spiritual investment such as religion or philosophy, your karma

So through derived houses you would start at the 4th house, since this is typically your maternal side. Maternal great grandmother is the mother of your mother's mother.

Therefore:

the 4th house from the 4th house (the 8th house): Your maternal grandmother

the 4th house from the 8th house (the 12th house): your maternal great grandmother

This is assuming your own 4th house represents your mother. If the 10th house more represents your mother then you would need to use that instead, same concept.

To put it like this: you would make your own 4th house the imaginary 1st house of your mother. Then, from there, you would go to her imaginary 4th house: this is her mother. So her imaginary 4th house is now her mother's imaginary 1st house. From there, you would go to the mother's mother's 4th house: this is your great grandmother.

Thank you so much!! So since my 12th is Gemini would I look to how Mercury transits, progressions etc interact with my natal to predict what may happen to my great grandma?

Your 10th house is your Mom.

Your 7th house is your Moms Mom.

Your 4th house is your Great grandmother.

Some use 4th to denote the mother. I use the 10th and work from there.
