If your time of birth is a little off, it could make it in the 12th like mine is.

Having a planet in the 1st house suggests that that planet is the forerunner when it comes to how you strongly identify yourself to others.

It does not mean that you are necessarily "great" at the things associated with that planet. As the aspects from the other planet will influence that expression.

If for instance Saturn squares Mercury in 1st, it can suggest difficulty or challenges in expressing oneself. The person could have a physical impairment (1st house) or a psychological one(if Mercury conjunct the 1st from the 12th) that makes spontaneous expression (1st) difficult (square).

Naturally since there is so much personal identity tied up with the 1st- A
as this part of the chart is like your face- One may progressively work at improving this inability by either learning to express him/herself in other ways.

If the impairment is physical, they may learn sign language or go for speech therapy. If psychological, they may see a psychologist or expert in repressed expression. Or they may prefer to express themselves more aggressively online(12th)

Whatever they do, the "fixing" of that issue will be of great urgency for them or they may learn to work with it. As the planet concerned is in the 1st house of self image. So no one walks around in life faceless. We contend with what we get and make it work.

I agree with the others. What aspects does your Mercury make?

Hmm well that makes sense since I am seeing a psychiatrist, but not necessarily for that reason, but it is still something you learn to do when going to counseling.

My Mercury does not make many aspects. It's in Pisces and it Conjuncts my Sun and Venus, and Squares Pluto, but only in like 5° orb.

When I was little though my teachers said I was a very good writer. Can that be part of Mercury in the 1st? Most Mercury in the 1st descriptions doesnt fit me, but I do think I am way more opinionated and argumentive online than in person. In person I am not much like that. I in fact get scared or easily hurt with trying to express myself or express my opinion on things. I feel too nervous to do so.

I don't believe so. I actually had believed my Mercury to be in the 12th house for the longest time when I used the birthtime my mom said was the time I ws born. But I finally got my birth certificate and the time on there was two hours behind what my mother told me was my birthtime. Since my birthtime on my birth certificate is to the very minute (5:23 am) I dont believe it's wrong. I do have other planets in the 12th though, including my moon. Maybe that can affect me like that?

It's in Pisces and conjuncts my Sun and Venus, Squares Pluto.
My chart ruler is Uranus, it doesn't make any aspects to it.

The square to Pluto could be the reason as to why you are not as talkative as would be described. Pluto can add a layer of suspicion to the external expression of the Mercury i.e "I don't want to look stupid to everyone".

But it also doesn't make you a walk over. You definitely can be like a dog with a bone when convinced that you are right. Pluto does have martial attributes too.

Since Sun and Venus are also in the 1st house, this also adds to it. Sun/Mercury people often associate their identity to being able to express oneself. And with Venus also involved, there is a need to express oneself well.

I assume Sun/Venus are square Pluto? If so, this would give a tendency to be harsh towards oneself and be critical(especially with Mercury/Sun/Pluto mix).

On the one hand you critique your identity with how effectively you communicate I.e " I am not stupid ". Whilst also on the other hand, you also attache your self worth and value(Sun/Venus square Pluto) to it.

You dig into the detail and want to express yourself without flaws(Pluto Mercury square). And this could either make you someone obsessive about getting it "right", being very anal on some days and then possibly beating yourself up plenty if you missed out on a detail on other days(at worst).

I see Pluto/Mercury aspects i.e conjunction, opposition or square as Virgo traits on steroids. When Sun/Venus are in the mix, it affects self esteem. And with all this interaction in the 1st house, shyness or being self conscious can be the result.

If Chiron is also involved...ouch!!
