Hello- I am considering getting a cat but I'm not sure if it's a bad idea right now since my 6th house ruler (Saturn) is retrograde. I've thought about it for a while and know I can afford one. I'm just worried because saturn is retrograde I will change my mind. Pluto is also retrograde in my 6th house and Mars is stationed direct. If it's helpful - I have a natal 6th house stellium with: venus retrograde, neptune, sun and uranus. IP: Logged |

If this is something you have thought of for some time then retrograde should not be a problem.Although even though I'm just an amatour in astrology, I do think and believe the 6th house does NOT represent our pets. Because 6th house is for working animals, cattle etc. Animals that can be seen as "porperty" (sounds wrong but well). Or maybe this sounds better, animals that "provides" us with milk, meat etc. Pets, in the meaning of cats, dogs, birds etc I personally believe should be concidered a 5th house matter. Or atleast, that its ruled both by the 5th and 6th. Because thise days we concider our pets often as our "child". Atleast the pet now days is regarded as a part of the family. Of course a normal person would for ex save his/her children first if it the persons house was to be on fire. No normal person would say "Oh fudge my boy/girl, my beloved dog is more important" !. But yeah you know how I mean, pets are also a big source of joy for a person, also maybe pets also can be seen as a hobby, so it still falls in the 5th house realm. I can be wrong of course. And also it may differ from person to person. Some people get attached on a much higher level to their dogs and cats (yes statically those 2 species) then sme others would do. Some may even be concidered crazy or delusional but anyways. What sign is your 5th house in? And please if you get one, fix an insurance for it! But I guess your Saturn is already telling you that IP: Logged |

I'm sure that pets do rule the 6th house. There must be a reason why.. I'm not pretentious enough to pretend that I'm the one who knows everything and who understand perfectly how astrology works : so I say : there must be a reason why 6th house rules pets. If I don't see why 6th house rules pets, it doesn't mean it doesn't rule pets, it just means that I don't know enoughIP: Logged |

I read that the 6th house was for house pets so that's what I went with ! My 5th house ruler is Jupiter, which is also currently retrograde.IP: Logged |

Yes but I think about the 6th house, ruled by virgo. Its all about service, and its about the crop, the harvest etc. Cattle and horses etc is "sservice animals". Now at modern days for ex police dogs and guiding dogs is "service" animals. Pets not so much when I think of virgo and 6th house. (also virgo is so clean and germophopic, pets/animals does not suit that profile imo ) But yes this is interesting as I don't know either which is what, its just my theories and a feeling.

So your 5th house is scorpio then? Hmm isin't that very fitting? I mean, cats a very can be scorpio like. Also jupiter is also very fitting, as cats are very independent animals! I once got a cat years ago. I looked at the transits I had back then and its interesting! I had thise transiting my 5th house back then: Jupiter, Venus, Chiron and N.node. Also Neptune had just left my 5th with 2 degrees. And Transit Sun, merc, Mars and Pluto was in my 4th house. Guess what sun sign the cat was, Scorpio! IP: Logged |

My 5th house is saggitarius. I feel like I haven't had much luck adopting so far because of the retrograde planets. Maybe they're trying to tell me something and I'm missing the point?IP: Logged |

Retrograde anything should not be a roadblock for anyone if they've thought about the process, and the responsibilities, thoroughly. I've bought a car when Venus was retrograde, signed contracts when Mercury was retrograde, etc. As long as it's not a hurried or impulsive decision, I do not see a problem.Pet insurance is nice and inexpensive, but also make sure you find a good vet that you can afford for routine appointments such as vaccinations, yearly exams, etc. Make sure you know where the closest 24 hour emergency vet clinic is, because pets can be very good at getting themselves into all sorts of accidents. Invest in good pet food - sounds odd, but it can prevent a host of health problems. And have them microchipped, spayed/neutered, of course. Do your research, talk to your vet for advice and any questions, and take your time picking out a cat that you like and connect with. The 6th house is all about daily responsibilities and "the small things" that we do every day. I would consider the simple action of filling a cat or dog's food and water bowl every morning a daily responsibility and service. No one is making you do it, of course, but it's a duty, service, and responsibility that you're providing for an animal that you've chosen to care for and devote time to. In that sense, I would consider pet ownership a 6th house activity. I would also consider farming animals a 6th house activity. If we're talking about keep animals for a certain activity (such as dog shows, or horse back riding) then I would consider that a 5th house activity in conjunction with the 6th house (since they still require quite a bit of care and maintenance). - A triple Virgo with a busy 6th house and owner of many, many pets. Yes I see how you mean! It is about ”your service” to the animal itself also! I totally forgot that aspect of it!I go all in for my pets. Organic food as much as possible, natural holistic supplements etc. I devote lots of time and love for a pet. All or nothing. My 6th house is though aquarius, I wonder if its why I get very stressed out having more then 2 animals at a time. I wanna give my full attention and also I may feel a bit hold back if its more then 2 animals at a time. haha its silly of course but anyways.

VERY INTERESTING. My cat that I just gave away was a Libra sun, with her Sun being directly in my 5th house. She was definitely more a daughter figure to to me than just a cat. I've had cats before but she was the one that made the most impact. IP: Logged |

I get what you mean. My 6th house is in Cancer. My 6th house also has my Jupiter in Leo - so I know what you mean about spoiling them. I think I'll always have at least one animal in my life at any time - the few times when I've not been near my pets, I've been very lonely. IP: Logged |

I agree with Melinn.Traditionally, pets were used as service animals so 6th house was appropriate. Nowadays, pets are part of the family, they are given "children" status in the home, they often sleep in our beds instead of their pet houses in the yard, they perform no "service" other than being a vehicle through which we express and receive love, so that is more of a 5th house quality. I would say, ask yourself what is your purpose in getting a pet?I know people who only have cats because they want to keep out rodents. Or dogs because they want a guard dog. They don't really play with or love those animals. These animals are just fulfilling a service, like the cow that gives them milk or chicken that gives them eggs. In such cases, it is a 6th house matter. for people who want pets for love and companionship, it is a 5th house matter. If the motivations fall in both categories, then I guess one would have to look at both houses... IP: Logged |
