You want tons out of life. If you could split yourself into 3 different people & experience life's thrills in all differing directions(even all at once), you would.

Now you could lean either to the Virgo Merc- where you focus on cleansing your body of toxins, regulating your life and streamlining the details into a cohesive unit. This Mercury wants to "manage" the internal mind and control its need to be pulled in destructive paths.

This Mercury dominant person could be focused more on living a minimalistic life. The desire here is not to do everything and anything. But self improvement and self preservation through doing one thing properly at a time.

I am this kind of Merc dominant individual.

The other type is Gemini. These ones are about living all of life from all angles, have colorful lives, many friends, multiple interests & a restless spirit that is rarely ever quenched.

This type of Mercury can be very "live hard and fast. Leave a good looking corpse" as their approach to life is to savour all. Rarely discriminating, they are usually pulled in all sorts of directions and retain their youthful zest for life well into old age. They want to do everything at-least once.

A bisexual friend of mine who is an Engineer is the latter kind. Been married to a woman and a man before.;His life reads like a story book. He has done it all and is only 33.

Specifically what you mean by dominance?

In using the composite planetary strength rating (Shadbala) of the traditional Indian system, I have yet to see someone with true Mercury dominance. It is more common to see people with higher strength of Sun, Venus, Jupiter, Mars, even Saturn, than Mercury.

Mercury strength is the strength of thought and communication that is initiated by genuine curiosity but sustained by the desire to connected with all persons through the variations of communication, including listening. (Most of us are too egoistic and taken by our own opinions to be this way. It is uncommon.) This may be happening before the person becomes what we would call 'intellectual'. They just being practical in learning another language, reading that extra book, etc.

The Mercury dominant person will connect with others through the mind and conversation, not be so impressed with physical appearances or show. They will be well read, but not believe it all. They read and learn for learning's sake alone and to keep the fire of curiosity alive. They will seem nerdy and a bit peculiar to the rest of us; talkative, great conversationalists, but not necessarily warming up to others on the emotional level; very interesting, enjoyable, then puff gone again.

That is my description based on no other planetary strength being in competition with a truly, clearly dominant Mercury.

I know of two Mercury dominant individuals. Yes, communication is their strong point - not necessarily verbally, though that works too. They do not lack for kindness or strength in many areas.

However, something that I have noted from both of them is a cunning deviousness that reminds me a lot of Mister Burns. They are highly suspicious of others, quite sneaky, and have a shadowy creeper nature - where they literally LURK and glare! lol!
That's what I've noted, and I don't know about others experiences with Merc people.

This is where the paradox can be seen with the planets being co-ruler of 2 different signs.

Poor venus and mercury who is been split between signs that do not resemble each other more then saturn resembeling uranaus, or mars resembeling sun.

Gemini energy is so different from Virgo energy, I won't even have to go in to the details, we all know it at this forum. Gemini is also represented by Hermes, and Virgo by Demeter, they can not be more different type of charecters right?

I'm getting really frustrated about this. I mean, when?! When will a suitable planet for Virgo gonna be declared? I have no idea ho the process looks like in this matters.

How did Uranus been chosen instead of Saturn?
How did they replace jupiter for pisces with Neptune etc.. How does the process look like? Do all astrologers vote or something?

I do not have the energy nor the right words to explain myself further but yeah.

My vote goes to Chiron for the true ruler of Virgo, and luckily I'm not alone to believe that way. I just wonder when it will be accepted in the astrology community?

And my words are really directed generally to the astrologers community and not to you guys on this forum! So please do not feel like my frustration is directed to you! I mean no disrespect to you guys! <3

Chiron will never be the "true" ruler of Virgo because Chiron is not a planet. It is a comet that has planetary characteristics. Though it has been debated to be a dwarf planet, it has never officially been mandated as such as current research shows it resembles a comet or asteroid more.

You might then ask, "Okay, so why do we keep Pluto? It's also not a planet anymore is it?" But that is not really true. Pluto is still a planet, just a dwarf planet.

Also, I am pretty sure (though, correct me if I'm wrong) that Pluto is a lot larger than Chiron. Chiron is pretty tiny. Very tiny. It's definitely not planet worthy, not even dwarf planet worthy. It's not a moon like Titan either so it can't even get that categorization. Therefore, no sense in giving it rulership over any sign or house.

Though there is no rule (at least i'm not aware of) that says only planets can rule over signs, I think it would be most logical if that was the case. And even then, Chiron still doesn't make the cut because it is not a planet! Eris and Pluto are the largest dwarf planets so if any one of them gets to have rulerships, I would say it would have to be the largest ones.

I see how you mean, still who decides it has to be a planet to rule a sign though? Chiron has enough energy, to emit? Its not a tiny star or anything. Who are we to decide Chiron can not rule a sign?

And are you ok with how different virgo energy is vs gemini?

Chiron certainly is talked about and given weight on as much as any planet, both in natal and synastry charts.

I have never accepted when nasa stated pluto to not be a planet a while ago, anyways Mercury is not suitable for Virgo, and well I guess one have to wait for an other planet to be discovered if we now can not accept Chiron^^

It's just sizeism.

But whether or not it's a planet is irrelevant. Being a "planet" isn't even necessary. We've got moon and sun and pluto in astrology, so already astrology doesn't abide silly NASA rules, as it shouldn't.

Sizeism? Is that a thing? And Pluto IS a planet, just a dwarf planet. As for Sun and Moon, they are naturally included as the Sun is the center of our solar system (and therefore the center/heart of us in astrology) and all other planet's depend on orbiting it. Moon is included I guess because it is Earth's only moon and that's important I suppose. Since we live on Earth. My main guess would be that because comets like Chiron are so far out and so so miniature from the Sun and Moon, the two pieces that are considered the heart of our natal chart, that they are practically useless in terms of being given rulership over one of the signs. I think it is fine with being a tiny comet/asteroid. Yes, it is helpful for certain readings but even then it is not always easy to interpret asteroids into a natal reading because of how small they are, therefore emit less energy for making aspects. An asteroid aspect couldn't be more than 2 degrees which makes them not so important; helpful and insightful if in exact degree, yes, but not so important for much else.

But you are right that there is no real rule to say that only planets can have rulerships, I just think that it would be most logical if that were the case though.

edited bc mess!

Well, I am a Virgo and I can say I am very mental, Mercury IS my planet. But then again, I also have Moon in Gemini, another Mercury ruled sign so my luminaries are both ruled by Mercury. But I also have my angles ruled by Mercury, with the ASC/DSC being Pisces-Virgo, and the IC/MC being Gemini-Saggy. And then I have my Nodes across my angles and they are in Virgo-Pisces, as well.
So my Sun and Moon, my Angle axis and my South Node is ruled by Mercury. My Vertex is in Virgo too. And then, all my planets in my chart and all angles are disposed by Mercury ( Final dispositor is Mercury ), except for one rebel - my Venus in Libra. It is the only one to stray away from Mercury.

How apt for Mercury

I imagine sexually Mercury rules orgies, double penetration, bisexuality and interracial(together with Jupiter).

All the Mercury strong people I have met are hard to pin down to any type of consistent pattern.

I find Uranus more predictable. Because I know they will always oppose popular opinion or convention. Lol

Mercury is my most dominant planet according to astro.com

I have no idea how but I definitely fit the description of a Mercury (Gemini) dominant individual. I can never stick to a pattern. I am always thinking and I am extremely clever, adventurous, witty and youthful. I have a way with words and use my hands a lot. I love guitar and cars which both use Mercury's abilities.

I have a third house stellium as I'm sure you all know by now, Moon/Mercury/Uranus/Venus/Neptune all lay dormant there.

Mercury square ASC
Mercury sextile Jupiter
Mercury conjunct Moon
Mercury opp MC
Mercury opp Mars

I think the stellium is what makes it my most powerful planet because I do not have anything in Virgo or Gemini nor the 6th.

Lol having both Gemini and Virgo influence makes me the typical mercurian

I've always wanted to try those crazy sex stuff, except the bi stuff because I'm pretty straight.

So odd.. I kinda agree with you on your thoughts about Uranian people. I find Mercurians to be quite flaky, even myself. Uranians just want to be different, I find.

Radium,

1) astro.com is a website with more than one rating system for planet strength. So which rating system are you referring to?

One of them is the Pullen method. Walter Pullen is younger and probably less knowledgeable about astrology than I am, so no one should consider that rather modern novel system authoritative. I'm still working on learning real planet strength rating systems and use the traditional Indian (via Persia) method as it is far more reliable. I will be doing a deconstruction of it in the coming months and years so that it can be applied intelligently by modern western astrologers.

2) Knowing your chart pretty well because of your activity in this forum, I can assure you that your dominant planet is not Mercury. Quite the contrary, it is one of the weakest if not the weakest in your chart (along with Jupiter).

This is an example of where western tropical notions of a planet's exaltation by sign are conflated with or used as an inadequate singular platform for defining its strength. Simply by its supposed exalted presence in the sign of Aquarius, Mercury cannot be deemed 'strong'. Look for example at its opposition to Mars in Leo. That aspect is a weakening one for Mercury, whose energies play into the Martial impulses. Mercury conjunct Moon could be seen as strengthening, but again, the stronger factor is with the other, the Moon, which is emotional rather than intellectual in nature.

Mercury's strength must facilitate the intellect, even in those who are not intellectuals. It's purpose is clear thought and communication that equips the individual and their relationships to create harmony of interface and effectively guided actions. The aspect of Mercury sextile Jupiter is the only one that does this in your chart. The rest of the aspects you list are those that compose a relatively low rating for its strength. The strongest in your chart are Sun, Moon, Saturn, Mars in roughly that order.

Sign and aspects are ingredients for determining a planet's strength, but not enough by themselves. Even then, notions of planet exaltations in the western tropical zodiac are not from traditional astrology or methodically tested, and are subtly affected by modern western values (Mercury in Aquarius must be exalted there because it is 'inventive', ignoring the primary purposes of Mercury).

Mercury's peak of zodiacal exaltation is in Virgo and Libra, specifically tropical 9° Libra (according to traditional Persian-Indian calculation at current precession). The further it is from that point, the weaker the rating by zodiacal position alone. Sky position, aspects, speed, etc must then come into play to add elements of strength to its final sum.

If you are skeptical about the idea of Mercury exalted in tropical zodiac Libra, consider that sign's Venusian air relating principle to guide Mercury similarly to Capricorn's Saturnine earth productivity principle guiding Mars.

Error: Mercury's peak exaltation zodiac point is at 9° Libra, not 4°. I corrected it in the post above.

Thanks Kannon!

And yeah I used water pullen, I have never really resonated with Mercury being my strongest planet, I don't feel "logical" enough, I believe my inconsistency is derived from my strong Aqua influence and third stellium but not Mercury alone. I however do identify with the Sun strongly along with Moon, Saturn and Pluto.

This part of your post is interesting to me. I generally have trouble telling which planets are truly most dominant in my chart, because I can't find a source that explains the calculations and why those planets are most dominant for me.

Pullen's methods are unclear to me, and even though I like the answers he gives for my strongest planets, I've been skeptical of how reliable they are recently.

Once you have figured out a real planet strength rating system that works, am I correct to think that the generational planets, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto, will not be part of the system?

That is the dark side to Mercury.

The pure Mercury dominant individual can have a darker side that is devoid of moral fibre or even sensitivity.

The versatile nature can be concerned with outdoing, outlasting & outwitting. Because there is little attachment to ego, they can go "incognito" & seamlessly "seep" into any stream.

Back to the sexuality thing I highlighted. Many seem to be able to simulate an orientation to serve a specific purpose or outcome i.e "gay for pay" or "straight to bait". There is little to no emotional attachment to the ethics of doing things. Decisions made only serve a specific outcome.

I would have to agree with Kannon that the current "dominant planet" systems available online aren't all that reliable (especially since so many people come off with outer planets like Pluto as "dominant").

For one, I myself am said to be Jupiter/Mercury dominant equally. But my character is too inflexible to fit Merc completely. So perhaps Jupiter is stronger?

I notice that both Mercury tends to "go with the flow". And I don't. I can be quite stubborn and resistant to follow. So I wonder if my preoccupation with morality is all Jupiter?

Lovely thread
