Pluto-mercury aspects. Mercury-jupiter aspects. 3rd house and 9th house placemenst, especially having mercury in for ex 9th and mercury from 9th or 3rd making aspects to planets like pluto, saturn, jupiter, uranus.

For ex my natal, mercury in 9th opposite pluto in 3rd house and aspecting uranus, saturn etc.

In my opinion 3rd house has to have a heavy planet in order for the 3rd house to be more heavy and it will slow the 3rd house fleeting airyness down.

Having a less heavy planet there may make someone too restless to focus in order for doing research, if you now mean "deep research".

One other interesting thing to concider is, 9th house is a fire house, so having an air planet there would fire up the house even more? Just a thought.

Just my opinion. It will be interesting to see others inputs and experiences on this!

as for aspects... Maybe Pluto in major aspect to Mercury. Perhaps some connection also to Uranus if the research subject is a Uranus type of science. Pluto has that sort of intense focus, or even obsession, that a good researcher would need. The role of Pluto might also be played by Saturn, I guess? That would be research driven more by patient diligence than obsessive focus.

Placements... Intellectual Aquarius, intense Scorpio, detailed Virgo or curious Gemini perhaps. I imagine a strong 3rd or 9th house.
