however, i think the 3rd house may have something to do with ego consciousness. when we say 'i am ___' we think about it. our earliest programming is in this house along with the brain washing. what we're told we can do, can't do, (skills) how we think, what our early boundaries, all the programming from our neighbours, parents, siblings of who we are and how we fit in, early experiences, etc - basically our consciousness.. our brain. us as humans

opposite would be the 9th house - higher learning, makes sense - transcending your early consciousness. are you understanding me?

what if a better way to understand is:
the 1st house is the body
the 2nd house is the needs
and then the next step of personal evolution - 3rd house the conscious self? the true 'i am ___, ____ and ____'

it does take babies 18 months before they're able to recognise their self in the mirror.

I've got Moon and Mars rx in my 3rd, and I definitely felt dictated about how I felt and how I 'should' express myself given many different situations (everyone had an opinion- and often I sought out advice since I never knew what to do with myself!)

Its interesting that you should mention this. As Chaldean astrology agrees with your perspective.

In Chaldean astrology, the 3rd house is ruled by Mars(not the 1st). Because in their perspective conscious "awareness" of thoughts as "me" is the beginning of ego(Mars). Not necessarily the entrance to the physical body(as is the case with Mars ruling house 1 in traditional astrology)

And i find it also worthy to mention that our thoughts(3rd) are the most personal thing about us. In that they influence our external perspective.
