My ASC just progressed to Gemini recently its like at 1 degree.

Will I slowly feel like a gemini in appearance and behaviours all at once or slowly over time?

Or an event that will trigger?

I'm actually doing student exchange later this year and actually wanting to live there permanently, so maybe it's this event?

No.

You are probably talking about the Naibod method of progressing the Ascendant very slowly over the year to land at its net gain per annum. This is a phony movement of the Asc that does not happen in nature since the secondary method of progression uses the Earth-based metaphor of day-for-a-year. Consistent with that, the Ascendant progresses about 361° per annum, not +/-1°.

So our True Progressions (quotidian progression) take the Asc all the way through the zodiac every year.
