Mercury/3rd house in aspect to Saturn might indicate that you are careful in your communication. Putting great value on being understood, on being articulate and mature in your communication. Thus making you less enclined to prattle endlessly about anything and everything. I'd think that Mercuy trine Saturn would want to talk about more important things...

I have always been a very good writer and speaker (not so much the speaking part anymore). I wouldn't say it comes naturally to me, it takes me some time to think because it's hard to focus my mind. It's also my profession.

Mercury-Pluto aspects tend to indicate sharp perception, focus and a gift for research. Their communication is usually sharp-tounged and intense. Best case is someone very insightful and passionate. Worst case scenario is paranoia, bitterness and conflict.

For example, mine is in Virgo but Leo rules the 3rd. Although I can be opinionated and expressive (Leo), I find it easier to articulate my words through writing (mercury in the 3rd). I'm terrible with public speaking as I tend to lose my train of thought and easily wander around when I speak. However, when I write, it's different. I am able to express an opinion and get my point across precisely and deliberately (Virgo). I also have Mercury square Pluto like you. It is very important to understand and be understood.

I have a friend who has Mercury in Leo in the 3rd. Leo rules his 3rd house too. He's better at public speaking and is able to command an audience at will. I admire him very much for this. However, when it comes to writing, he gets a lot of grammatical errors and run-on sentences. His way of writing and speaking is more inspirational while mine is more factual. So sometimes, he can't back his written arguments properly and he gets me to proofread them. His thoughts wander around in writing just like how mine wanders around in speaking.
