Okay let’s talk about moon conj ascendant for a bit.

I know that these people are moody. But are they super defensive as well? I know someone with a 12th house Taurus moon conj asc and she takes a lot of things personally and construes things said to her the way that she wants to hear it. She often blows things way out of proportion. Then she gets defensive and shuts down and retreats inwards until she’s ready to come back around (sometimes lasts for days). She does this with numerous people. This is exhausting. Is this how moon conj asc is? Or is this an extreme case?

My sister has Moon in Cancer conjunction Asc in Cancer. And the answer is a resounding "YES".

Her Moon is in the 12th conjunct the 1st. The 12th house/1st house cusp or Pisces/Aries cusp is the birth of individuality. So planets that are there are on the point of "birth". As much as there is vulnerability, there is also a fighting spirit.

So like a baby, they will cry and squeal for attention and that's because everything is new, nothing is familiar and every feeling that is known to man is quite frankly foreign to them from a personal level.

They experience things for the very first time and are strongly subjective. They are simply unable to see anothers point of view clearly(even when Venus and Moon being there) because they are too immersed in their own.

The 12th house is the collective and the 1st house is when one "separates" oneself from the collective.
So think of it like this: Someone shoots a bullet at people living on your area (that's the collective 12th). Someone shoots a bullet straight at you(that's the personal 1st).

So when we have Moon conj the 1st house, one tends to be the "defender" of 4th house issues(Moon is the solar ruler of the 4th house).

And that includes babies,(5th house is toddlers & children)mothers, home, emotional security, emotional feelings, women's rights(together with 7th),equal sharing of household duties(this the Moon shares with Juno),a domestic environment of equals(Juno too), justice for the single mothers burdened with responsibilities, justice for single fathers that are ridiculed for taking the maternal role etc.

All the above is especially when the Moon is in Cancer. But the list is extended if the Moon is in another sign i.e Taurus(defender of physical security needs like money, property and the body), Gemini(defender of the spoken word, free speech, siblings, communicating the truth etc.)

Many times planets conjunct 1st house people seem like they are "looking" to be offended by something or someone. And that is because of the martial nature of the 1st house(any planet there will be martial).

So Moon there will often personalize or internalize words spoken or gestures made to suggest an imminent "threat".The response always being hyper sensitivity and a tendency to exercise ones defenses in personal relationships (Moon).

The person gets better if they invest time and energy in causes which are worthy their emotionally "firey" nature i.e causes linked to the 4th house and home. Thereby redirecting the agression to outside personal relationships and making the individual more palatable to be around and less prickly.

Well in short, her emotions and how she reacts and acts to them can not be explained by an asc conjunction . Whole chart, aspects to the moon and mars yadayada yada you got the drill.

Other then that Aries23 insights are great as always! <3

I am inclined to think* 12H conjunct ASC is 'worse' (more exaggerated, per your question) than 1H conjunct ASC.

This is simply because 1H represents what we know and accept about ourselves, 12H is what we can't see fully/clearly. Since the ASC is the point of emergence/expression, anything conjunct it will be expressed. But because 12H is 'what we don't see', we have less control over the planet. Moon is sensitivity, moodiness.

*speculation
