Is it an angle? Is it a point? My understanding is that the 4th/10th houses are the angle so what is the MC/IC axis?IP: Logged |

By default the ascendant is the origin of the equal house system and because of that the 10th house doesn't, as in other house systems, start at the MC.The IC/MC is still an angle and is still important though even if you use equal houses. IP: Logged |

Let me see if I understand this - in the Equal House, the angles are the 1st, 4th, 7th and 10th House cusps and the MC/IC is an extra angle? Sorry if I'm being obtuse.

It is understandably confusing because the system is confused by its own contradiction. Essentially it just ignores the Midheaven as a cusp, superimposing a cusp for the 10th house at exact right angle to Asc, but still acknowledges the Midheaven is there and where it is. It actually highlights pretty well that the equal system is a 2D paper-only system that has no relation whatsoever to a 3D Earth in orbit or to the topocentric nature of a birth horoscope. As always, more important than house system is making sure the sign and degree on your Asc is truly accurate. That at least gives you a solid anchor for defining houses and comparing different systems. ------------------ "Drift like a cloud and flow like water, seeing that all life is a magnificent illusion, a playing of energy, and there is absolutely nothing fundamentally to be afraid of." -- Alan Watts Soul Stars Astrology by The Declinations Guy Expert Rectification IP: Logged |

I used to think my Ascendant was in Capricorn (mom's false memory). Then I found my birth certificate and it became Aquarius. It made sense to me but I kept thinking but... but Capricorn... and there's no way I've no Pisces in my chart. Then I looked again and there was Saturn, 6 degrees behind my Ascendant in the 12th. And behind Saturn, Uranus and Neptune also in the 12th. I had to chuckle. Then I read about the 12th house and that was the end of that. Anyway, I know that the Placidus system is the most popular one but I can't use a system that doesn't work for everyone. If it's not for everyone then it's not reliable. You mention the topocentric nature of the chart. Does that mean that dividing the zodiac into 12 equal signs is a 2-D system too? Because from my point of view (and it's an admittedly novice pov) at least in the EH system the house cusps might be all the same but that's what goes on with the signs too so to me it makes sense. As for the MC-IC axis, it's given a slightly different meaning in the EH. I see it as a compromise. IP: Logged |
