My guess is because the 8th house can involve seeking to the depths of something, uncovering the secrets. Obssessive research- though that could just be my Scorpio Mercury talking.

9th house seems more philosophical in nature; more experience learning rather than research based.

The 9th house is the house of "higher knowledge" i.e that which is the "ideal". We go to school to learn how the world "should" work.

The 10th house is the experience of "active knowledge" i.e "the real deal". This is how the world really works.

The 8th house is the knowledge of the existence of the "raw deal" that undermines the 9th i.e as Felicity Huffman has demonstrated, "education" can be bought. And a "degree" is just a piece of paper.

With the 8th, the nature of the "ideal" itself is a flawed premise and is constantly being challenged.

If you keep researching something deeply and obsessively, over time it loses its hypnotic effect on you.

When you uncover things that even Academics are not privy to, you have unmasked knowledge that they can't even fathom existed.

Then you become the sought after Sage. This is essentially what the 8th house is.

To demonstrate, someone with Jupiter in 9th will be lucky in school and with speaking languages. Often the attainment of various degrees is included.

With Jupiter in 8th, conventional "learning" institutions may not appeal. This person may be interested in the knowledge not found in library books or varsities.

To them, the knowledge they seek is hidden in between messages, totems, word of mouth and the obscure dreams etc. It requires focused research as well as delicate extraction.

Jupiter in 8th house people often have luck in being able to put puzzles together and make such profound connections.

I have Pisces Jupiter in the 9th House in the Koch and Equal House System. On the other hand, Jupiter is in the 10th House conjunct my Midheaven (9 orb) in every other house system. I relate to descriptions of both placements, so I'm not certain which one to "stick" with so to speak.

8th House goes DEEP into things, particularly taboo things like sex or crime or anything under the surface of "cocktail party" kind of talk. The 9th House would be more intellectual research like history etc

I see, thank you! I have Uranus and Neptune in the 8th House

I'm pretty sure that the 5th House's cusp sign, occupant planet, house-ruler and (I think) intercepted sign is the responsible for one's sexual identity.
This blogger's detailed real-life examples used to support her astrological concepts is phenomenal.

Cool! nice interpretation

It also means researching comes naturally to you, one of your gifts.

Yet this whole time I thought it my research skills were so superior because I have Mercury in the 3rd House and Pluto in the 6th. My baad! Haha.

Jupiter finds its place of domicile in Pisces. Here the native learns through connecting otherwise "unrelated" (atleast on the surface) subjects to each other.

Pisces energy learns through connectivity of many things and can be quite good at learning very complex abstract topics that require a holistic understanding or breadth of vision.

Since Pisces also vibrates to the 12th house of things that are obscure or difficult to make out etc. I think your confusion as to which house to relate to is telling . As Pisces often times "identifies" with more than one thing at a time. So clarity is tough.

I would go with Jupiter on Pisces on the angle(Mc). Since both are in Pisces, the effect is carried over.If the Mc was in Aries,it would be Jupiter in 9th

Because you must creep before you walk, and the houses are connected to each other.

In the 8th you research things, in the 9th, the knowledge gained through research is ready for dissemination.

So, the higher knowledge expressed in the 9th was gained through intrepid research in the 8th.

9th house is about the overview, the big picture, the Jupiter principle. That is the notion of higher knowledge that plays out with communicative exchange (teachers, pupils, foreigners, ministers) as is characteristic of the 3rd-9th axis.

8th is an extension of the 2nd house's theme of personal resources, but more about shared resources. It is about going deeper to get under the surface (Martial or Pluto principle). It is merging of object and subject and may not be facilitated by communication, but more 'getting in deeper'. This is why those of us with key factors in the 8th house (in my case Sun-Saturn) make such good researchers.

9th tends to mean book learning, scholarship, the capacity to process information towards ideals; to write essays and expound on topics theoretically. It is an extension of the reading-writing rote learning of primary school.

8th is more about the deeper levels of the relations between things, how they interact and overlap on a subtle level, how they relate sexually, spiritually, merge, etc; the underlying structures that organize and bind particulars or persons together, the materials or resources that do this naturally.

Well, just like 5 and 7 are both two houses dedicated to romance and partnership in different ways, you also have 8 and 9 which cover similar, yet different things.

9th house IMO is the everyday academic, the PHD, the expert in something. Not just that tho. They'll take in anything, learn anything.

8th is the undercover detective assassin who learns via cutting everything open and checking it to the last minute detail.

both can include divine knowledge as well, both gotten by different means.

I think a nice lil' example is that the 9th house is the swallower of knowledge, while the 8th house is the digestive tract that the knowledge goes through xD
