Do you mind posting the chart? An austere/strict or traditional home environment is often indicated by Saturn/Moon,Cap Moon, Ic/Saturn, Saturn in aspect to Ic ruler, ruler of 4th in 10th or 10th in 4th.
But typically speaking with the above, the roles are still clear. The parents are the parents & exercise authority over the child.
But as the child grows older, the child may feel responsible for the parents or be obligated to take care of the parents somehow. This is typically in the child's latter years i.e post 40
Whatever the circumstance, Ic touching Saturn or in Cap tends to increase one's sense of responsibility as they grow up and to become the "authority" figure in home affairs or make home a top priority (as if its a "career")
This may extend to taking care of parents, establishing a business at home, running a family owned business, moving back in with parents full time or having them stay with them, moving closer to parent's neighborhood (but not necessarily in the same house) etc.
Progressions of Uranus/Pluto/Neptune or transits therein typically mark a monumental shift in the native's sense of priorities related to home.
Progressed Moon on Mc or natal Moon in aspect to the Mc,Cancer Mc etc. tend to have a similar result. Home can be a "career" or the career centering around home. Even moving abroad to further career etc.
Pluto is tension in the home. This when it aspects Moon/ Ic or the ruler of the Ic. Ruler of 4th in 8th or ruler of 8th in 4th also produces a sense of "loss" of peace of mind in home affairs.
Here still, the parents remain the parents.Even though the psychological imprint they may leave can be less than "ideal", the child's role is not confused. There are often added power struggles or domineering tactics to establish permanently whom the "adult" is.
Neptune is the one that makes things hazy and to a certain extent Jupiter-who can be very laissez faire.
With Neptune, the questions compound: Who is doing what and to what end? Where do I end and begin? What role am I?Are u my father? Are u my mother? What is the role of a parent exactly and what role is the child? What is family? etc.
Neptune's more flexible influence either by placement or ruler, has the native "fit" into whatever role that comes up. Whether this is child or this is parent. The parents can shape-shift into children at any time & as a coping mechanism, the child also shapeshifts.
Ic in Virgo often suggests feeling like home and family are "work". In that there is constant managing of minor details to prevent bottleneck situations that may cause tension or friction.
My little Sis has Virgo on Ic and the result is that the child may inhibit their own needs or be as unobtrusive as possible. There is an avoidance by them to become a "nuisance" or "problem" -as they try to live up to standards projected on them etc.
